Fish 'n Chips is an American-French-South Korean-Canadian animated television series that aired from 2011 to 2012 on Gulli, and it was produced and distributed by Cyber Group Studios, Hawaii Animation Studios (now known as Fish 'n Chips Productions), CNC, Timoon Animation (later known as Genao Productions, OuiDo! Productions, and Technicolor Animation Productions), Viva Pictures, and SAMG Entertainment.

Plot

The story takes place in New York, where Fish, a goldfish, has a bone coveted by Chips, a cat. Only the bone is essential for Chips, it is also essential for Fish. Indeed, Fish is convinced that he must evolve into an earthling (that is to say, a terrestrial animal) while for Chips, the ridge is his only means of returning home and being accepted as a worthy heir by his father.

Why They Should Be Eaten by the Brits

  1. Mediocre and cheap-looking CGI animation for 2011 standards.
  2. It suffers from its most unlikable characters:
    • In fact, the show tries to make Fish the good guy while Chips is the bad guy but because of the character of the characters it reverses the roles and it makes Fish a bad and unlikeable guy as a "Karma Houdini" while Chips is a good and likable guy as a "Butt-Monkey".
      • Fish wants to covet the bone for the selfish purpose of becoming a human while Chips wants it because he wants to be accepted by his father that who kicked him out of his home.
  3. Also, this show is a rip-off of Tom and Jerry, Looney Tunes, SpongeBob SquarePants, M&M's commercials, Caillou, and Les p'tits Diables, another infamous French show, because the nice character is often abused while the bad guy gets away with it unscathed for no reason.
    • Once again, the show tries way too much to look like Ratz with the fact that they are voiced by Omar Sy and Fred Testot but it doesn't work.
  4. Plot hole: Fish wants to become a human except that in this show there are no humans seen.
  5. Forgettable soundtrack.
    • The theme song and ending credits is even worse and it also contains of Chips mewing.
  6. The movie adaption is even worse than its show similar to Queer Duck, and was just a clip show with a compilation of some episodes.
  7. Weak and sub-par character designs, and they look like M&M's, Nickelodeon and Cartoon Network rejects.
  8. Lackluster writing and episodes.
  9. Overall, it's a forgettable show because of the unlikable characters and lackluster writing.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The plot is very interesting, but it was poorly executed.
  2. Chips is only a likable character despite being a "Butt-Monkey".
  3. The voice acting for French and English dubs is decent.
  4. Some people may like this show despite its flaws.

Trivia

Like Ratz, the show is doubled by a duo of comedians well known in France, namely Omar Sy and Fred Testot.

Reception

Fish 'n Chips has received mostly mixed reviews and it holds a 5.1/10 on IMDb and a 4.1/10 on Senscritique, but it still gained a cult like the majority of French shows.
