FlatOut 4: Total Insanity (stylised as FL4TOUT TOTAL INSANITY) is a racing and demolition derby game developed by French indie developer Kylotonn and published by French publisher Bigben Interactive. It was released on consoles on March 17, 2017, with its PC port following almost a month later.

Why It's Total Insanity (In the good way)

  1. The handling is heavily improved from the dumpster fire that is FlatOut 3: Chaos & Destruction, with the cars now responding and drifting better.
  2. There are now a nice variety of game modes that are unique on their own and not rehashes or variations of one another.
  3. Stunt Mode has lots of minigames you can take part in to see how many points you can score.
    • In Golf, your driver is the golf ball and your score is determined by which hole you putt him/her in.
    • In Total Destruction, your objective is to destroy as much of an oversized toy castle as possible with the help of explosive barrels planted into its courtyard and towers.
    • In High Jump, your score is determined by how high your driver can fly.
    • In Cup Pong, your driver is the ping pong ball and your objective is to land him/her into one of the cups.
    • In Baseball, your driver is the baseball and your objective is to try and hit the baseball bat as accurately as possible, with the score being determined by how far he/she flies.
    • In Rings of Fire, your objective is to fly through as many rings as possible without falling or burning your driver.
    • In Soccer, your driver is the soccer ball and your objective is to score a goal.
    • Long Jump is similar to High Jump but with the score determined by how far your driver can fly.
    • In Curling, your driver is the curling puck and your objective is to try and land and stop in the bullseye as accurately as possible.
    • In Finnish Pins (Mölkky), your driver is the throwing pin and your objective is to score exactly 25 points by knocking down specific pins.
    • In Billiards, your driver is the cue stick and your objective is to pocket as many billiard balls as possible.
    • In Stone Skipping, your driver is the skipping stone and your score is determined by how far he/she flies.
  4. There are lots of nice destructible environments that are really fun to destroy.
  5. The crashes and destruction are heavily improved from FlatOut 3: Chaos & Destruction and look a lot better too.
  6. Deathmatch Mode is a lot of fun in multiplayer and is now properly scored based on who lasts the longest and not by total damage given like the previous game.
  7. The racetracks are unique and fun to race and so are the cars, especially in multiplayer mode.
  8. The soundtrack is heavily improved from its predecessor and consists of nice licensed rock songs.
  9. The graphics look decent and are a huge step-up from its predecessor.

Bad Qualities

  1. The game's physics and AI tends to be finicky at times, with the cars understeering on tight corners.
  2. The graphics can get muddy at times, becoming a little blurry when you drive very fast.
  3. You need to do a lot of grinding if you want to buy the cars and skins you want due to Career Mode's paltry payouts.
  4. High difficulty curve for newcomers to the series.
  5. Some people said that the cars look exactly like toy cars.
