Fortnite is a 2017 video game developed and published by Epic Games.

The game is available in three distinct game mode versions that otherwise share the same general gameplay and game engine: Fortnite: Save the World, a cooperative hybrid-tower defense-shooter-survival game for up to four players to fight off zombie-like creatures and defend objects with traps and fortifications they can build; Fortnite Battle Royale, a free-to-play battle royale game in which up to 100 players fight to be the last person standing; and Fortnite Creative, in which players are given complete freedom to create worlds and battle arenas. Save the World and Battle Royale were released in 2017 as early access titles, while Creative was released on December 6, 2018.

While the Save the World and Creative versions have been successful for Epic Games, Fortnite Battle Royale in particular became an overwhelming success and a cultural phenomenon, drawing more than 125 million players in less than a year, earning hundreds of millions of dollars per month, and $9 billion in revenue in its first two years.

Good Qualities

  1. Sad atmosphere of the game in the Save The World mode, at the backstory, a storm caused the population to disappear by 98%, making zombies and creatures rise from the ground.
  2. The character designs are very unique and creative since many character designs can be seen as actually unique, beautiful, cool, elegant, attractive, cute, adorable, or flashy. In addition, many of his characters can have other styles such as shadow, dark, Christmas suits, beach suits, animated style, lava, and ice. Which easily stands out unlike other games, there are some perfect examples:
    • Fishstick, a skin that a type of fish, you may wonder, the skin itself is adorable, and even has styles like Pirate and VR, and also it's not only the most memorable skin, but it's the best skin in Fortnite and this skin is worth spending.
    • Marigold, a skin that is nevertheless, a female version of Midas, the skin is very attractive and cool, both as her design as she is, since given that it was created by Kitsu (who also created Charlotte in Season 8 of Chapter 2), which is not only very attractive, its also reactive, it can already be turned into gold (which approximately reaches 6 eliminations and is completely gold) due to increasing with eliminations.
    • Guff, a skin that has light red fur all over the body and a star on the chest, the skin is awfully cute, appealing, and gorgeous, seeing its design will put a lot of tenderness on you, seriously, look, if you are a person or a player who likes cute things, this skin is for you, since its design will never be bad, is still as appealing and gorgeous, which will make you buy it without thinking.
    • Meowcles, a skin that is a muscular humanoid cat type, although it may be uncanny to some, the skin, along with its design and appearance, is fantastic, imaginative, and cute as hell, since seeing the face will give you a lot of tenderness to see it, unfortunately, it was only in season 2 of chapter 2, but many must have it yet.
      • Although, fortunately, there is a cartoon-style redesign that is even better, it already looks cool, showy, and appealing and comes with a catchy built-in gesture and this version is in the item shop, which can be a great opportunity for you not to they had the original.
    • Raptor, a skin that is a pilot, although it may not be flashy for some, its design looks original and unique, since it has a yellow mask, not only does it also have a male version, but it also has a female version, similar to Marigold.
    • Renegade Raider, a skin that is well known for being the most exclusive of this game and its design is very unique and original, also they bring out other designs for those who did not have the original skin, both as her Halloween or lava design as the original.
    • Ruby is a female skin type that has an all-red outfit and white stripes, however, the skin is very attractive at best. Not only is its design beautiful, but it has become one of the most beloved skins in Fortnite by many people and players, since many who come to Fortnite, while the bottom can be a bit distracting when wearing, it is very comfortable to wear it feels thin and its not too cumbersome, and also it can give you a good impression of the simple yet flashy colors since its all red and many want the skin, both as the shadow model as the normal one. In addition, the original skin brings some extra styles that are also very attractive, such as Chill and Colorful, which makes the skin even more worthwhile.
    • Peely, a skin that is simply a banana, the skin is visually pleasant, cute, and appealing, especially the redesigns that they take out (except for the Halloween version) since the face looks inoffensive, and also its design that, although it can be slightly clunky at the top, is hilarious, especially if you want to have a good time having fun, which made this one memorable for many.
    • Vi (do not confuse Arcane Vi), a skin that was in Fortnite Crew in February, however, it is a very beautiful and stunning skin, since the design is similar to Drift but in female, which for many was flashy, it also has 2 designs like the normal one and a light blue one, it is also reactive since there are some rays in the suit, and even her face is charming as her cheeks are a little flushed.
    • El Chapulin Colorado, a skin based on the Mexican series, is undoubtedly, a beautiful, flashy, and comical skin, since its design looks faithful to the original and still retains its charm, which is worth spending it, especially the one who saw the series in its childhood.
  3. Hours of content as you explore the world in search of resources, and there are plenty of missions to complete.
  4. On December 24, 2020, they added for the first time, the Fortnite Crew, which is a subscription where that gives you very good benefits, although the subscription lasts for 1 month after your subscription ends, they will not take away everything they gave, and speaking of which, these are the things they give you, for example:
    • They give you a skin, pickaxe, backpack, weapon wrap, loading screen, and sometimes a wing delta completely exclusive.
    • They give you 1000 V-Bucks a month and they even give you 2000 V-Bucks when you sign up for Fortnite Crew, which is good since you will not have to buy the V-Bucks that you always buy, except that if you buy the battle pass without the subscription, I lower it a bit, that it's 950 V-Bucks.
    • They give you the battle pass completely free, which is cool since you will not have to buy with the V-Bucks you have, but it is also a saving of V-Bucks.
    • On April 22, 2021, they were one of the few subscriptions (but also one of the few Battle Royale) where they gave you 3 months of Spotify Premium for free, which was surprisingly good, since Spotify Premium gave you, for example, download music with a premium account, without ads with unlimited skips and listen to all songs, since for some who had Spotify, many liked this without having to pay the premium (Unfortunately, it was discontinued on August 1, 2021).
      • In addition, after the arrival of Deimos, they also gave you access to the "Save the world" mode (but it was only once). (except for the Nintendo Switch version).
  5. Save The World is a very fun co-op experience.
  6. The Battle Royale mode frequently gets new events, and the game itself has frequent updates.
  7. You can choose to go anywhere on the map once you're off the Battle Bus in Battle Royale by skydiving and maneuvering your character to the location you want to go.
  8. These things called Live events are very impressive, such as The Final Showdown from Season 9, The End Event from Season X, The Device Event from Chapter 2 Season 2, The Devourer Of Worlds Event from Chapter 2 Season 4, Operation: Sky Fire Event from Chapter 2 Season 7, and The End Event from Chapter 2 Season 8.
  9. Plenty of cosmetic pickaxes and gliders, as well as costumes and skins. Some skins are based on characters from other franchises like John Wick and The Stig from Top Gear just to name a few.
  10. The Battle Royale mode requires you to act fast and gather resources, thanks to the storm. To get resources you must loot houses eliminate other players and pick up their dropped loot. Sometimes, supply drops will come from the sky and aid you, since they contain useful items and weapons, with some being rare and hard to find when looting.
  11. The Zombies mode is fantastic.
  12. Travis Scott's Astronomical event and Ariana Grande's Rift Tour event were just awesome.
  13. The seasons:
    • Season 2, Chapter 2: Top Secret was a highly superior, awesome, and favorable season for many players, since it had an interesting concept: Can anyone imagine fighting with the Shadow team and with the Ghost team?, and also brought vaults that give you a very good amount of weapons, shield, life, etc. (although you had to open it by killing an NPC (even though they had very broken AI in some) and they gave you the card), and it also brought some places that were so loved and most landed like The Agency, The Yacht and The Shark on the map and he brought a portable scanner, for example, when you killed a player, you could extort him and see everything like chests and even other players, and there was also one of the coolest events, which is Travis Scott (Which unfortunately, has now become a exclusive idol skin due to the incident that happened in Astroworld 2021), The Battle Pass was exceptional and great as it brought many cool skins like Maya (which is one of the most customizable and original skins), Agent Banana (which is obviously a reskin of Peely but with a elegant suit and a serious face), Brutus, Tntina (who also comes with a hang glider with a new animation), Meowcles (as mentioned before in GQ#2), Skye, Deadpool (While seeing Deadpool inside was something disappointing for some people, at least it was not disgraceful and its an incredible skin unlike Neymar Jr) and finally its worth mentioning that it brought one of the most important characters in the game, Midas, and also when you level up to the top, they gave you an exclusive gold style to the skins.
    • Season 3, Chapter 2, while not as great as the previous season, is still very good. The concept of the entire map being almost united was a decent concept despite its flaws and the changes on the map brought in some completely new and fresh places like The Fortilla and Rickety Rig. Also, because the map was almost flooded, you can ride a shark with a fishing rod, which is a nice addition. One of the most innovative things is that now you can drive and the most surprising thing was that a lot of players were in the gas station to fuel the cars of other players. The Battle Pass, despite having some skins that leave much to be desired like Siona, Scuba Jonesy (which is one of the worst reskins in the game), and Aquaman (which in itself is a dull collaboration) and was also inferior, brought some good and memorable skins like Jules (which looks attractive), Kit (An adorable version of Meowcles but controlled Teaming with a robot), Fade and Eternal Knight. Captain America's collaboration was very well received unlike Aquaman, which significantly made it possible for the Marvel season to arrive (which you will see later) and it has a very good skin.
    • Season 4, Chapter 2: Nexus War, despite being somewhat controversial due to the Marvel aesthetic, was a very spectacular and unique season since instead of playing the usual, you played a Marvel theme which was a concept cool for many players and fans of Marvel. Some changes in the map were incredible like Pleasant Park replacing Doom's Domain, Sentinel Cemetery, and new emblematic place, Quinjet Patrollers, Stark Industries (which in itself was one of the most favorable places in the game), and in the starting area added the SHIELD Helicarries. Also, in the Battle Bus, you could see planes arriving on the map, and in each update, they adjusted the Battle Bus. The new mythical weapons were fantastic since instead of touching normal weapons like pistols, played those of superheroes such as Doctor Doom, She-Hulk, Groot, and Wolverine (although it was extremely painful to obtain), and despite having the Marvel aesthetic, there was a tournament very entertaining had from Lachlan where you had to kill players without weapons and get the skins completely free. The Battle Pass was awesome and appealing, as they brought us Mystique, Groot (despite not being the best, it's still a charming skin), Thor, Wolverine, Jennifer Walters (also in her transformation as She-Hulk), Robert Downey Jr. (also as Iron Man), Doctor Doom and Storm and incredible hang gliders for the Marvel skins and also the excellent event we had against Galactus. He had a superior record of having 17 million players at the event.
    • Season 7, Chapter 2: Invasion was a magnificent and cool season since the concept of aliens invading the world of Fortnite sounds fascinating, and also what made this season more entertaining was the abductor minigames since you had to catch enough 5 stars with a time limit and you could pick a desirable weapon before the timer runs out. The new weapons, while broken, were excellent and satisfying to use like the railgun. The game's mobility has improved, and it also brought a cow backpack which was quite useful. Another neat change that this season has been the llamas since now they run and flee instead of staying still. Although it's annoying to open it due to that resists and has a time limit, it turns out to be a good idea since it gives you a lot of bullets and large shields, and when you kill it it gives you a shield bazooka. Like the Travis event, there was one of the most beautiful and colorful events, Ariana Grande, and one of the most interesting things was the free rewards like Rift Tour, Cosmic Summer, etc. The collaborations are glorious like Ariana Grande, Bugha (an Australian YouTuber who is also a popular Fortnite player), Gildedguy (If you don't know who this is, it's a channel that used to be an artist that did amazing and break talking animations and was featured on Night of Shorts), Ferrari (Actually, it's an independent collaboration since the games included the Ferrari 296 GTB car where you could drive and they released decent skins), Lebron James and the list goes on. The Battle Pass, while not as flashy as other Battle Passes, brought very good and cool-looking skins like Sunny, Rick Sanchez (the toxic design is even better), Superman (which fits much better than Neymar Jr), and also this is one of the few battle passes that I had an extra V-Buck since in all the battle passes they bring enough of 1500 V-Bucks. Instead, this pass had 1600 V-Bucks, which is surprising. And lastly, when this pass was about to end, it had a shocking event that many players were surprised by.
    • Season 1, Chapter 3: Flipped was a fascinating and attractive season as this season brought completely new things like a new map called "Artemis" Even though it brought new places there are some places that came back Tilted Peaks, Greasy Grove, and Buttered Stable. Although it can become Nostalgia Pandering, at least it left many players with a sweet taste and still retains its charm. One of the most important things this season had was the Spider-Man's webs which were unfortunately removed in the new season. This feature made it faster to get away from the storm. The new weapons are fun to use, like the MK7 assault rifle that itself shoots fast and is the only one to have a first-person camera. They also added another technique interesting how to slide that in itself also useful, they also added the store to store things, and they also added new cures such as a curative deodorant, and a soda that also Heals to 100% health. The collaborations, while some are bland like Uncharted, Naomi Osaka, Gears of War, The Matrix, and NBA, there are a lot that are good-looking and cool like Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Book of Boba Fett, Hawkeye, Bruno Mars, Cobra Kai (Just some very good skins), Vi from Arcane, Rouge & Gambit and Melloverse. In addition, Winterfest 2021 came as there were decent to great gifts, a gift of a glider from The Matrix and 2 free skins that you could open, especially for some new players who didn't have skins. The Battle Pass was great and almost perfect, as it brought completely original skins and even Meme Skins like Shanta (While not great, it's still a decent skin), LT. John Llama, Gumbo (which in itself is an appealing and cool skin), Ronin, Haven, Harlowe (another fetching skin), original Spider-Man from the comics, and even The Foundation a.k.a The Rock, and this was one of the most rewarding seasons. Free like Creative Mayhem, an NBA graffiti, Winterfest challenges, Stoneheart Trials, Twitch Drops, etc. They also added one of the newest things in the games, win cups in each game (although they also give you a gesture when you win the first time) and every time you win more, your cup score will increase as you go to first place, also, one of the most important things that they added in this game, was the Klombos, which has quickly become one of the most beloved and popular animals since you feed it with any object and they are calm, but if you shoot it, it will get aggressive (even though it is impossible to kill him due to his being immortal) and its also worth mentioning that they added climate changes, a perfect example is storms and lightning, for example, lightning can burn anywhere and even if you are close, it will give you speed although it lasts a short time. Finally, it's worth mentioning that the defects of Chapter 2, Season 1 improved, since there were things that made it very tacky and poorly thought out, such as the last 4 months (although it is the same) but without any updates (which was one of the most questionable and stupid decisions), little to no map changes, a lot of undesirable bots, awful and poor mobility, repetitive gameplay, etc, (Although to be fair, it had positive things like new things, a much nicer visual section, Ninja's collaboration and even fixed the infamous water in the chapter since it was criticized because when moving the characters it felt rather chewy and rough that to the point that he was unreliable in stepping on it). Instead, this season fixed everything with lots of updates, map changes, and the list goes on, which is great.
  14. The theme of every Season is very creative like Season 9 being Future themed, Season X being Out of Time themed, Chapter 2 Season 1 being New World themed, Chapter 2 Season 2 being Secret Agent themed, Chapter 2 Season 3 being Water themed and Chapter 2 Season 4 being Marvel theme, which was very awesome.
  15. As long as you have the resources, you can build forts using them and use the building mechanic to travel to areas with ease. You can be creative with the building mechanic, and it can save your life during firefights. You can even build traps to damage unsuspecting players.
  16. Cartoony yet smooth, fresh, and nice-looking graphics, especially nowadays, as the game has an unimaginable and appealing mix of colors, glitters, lights, etc. The color palette, illumination, and backgrounds look very nice to look at. Also, despite its cartoonish graphics, some skins use Cel-Shading like this one, which is very uncommon and unusual in Battle Royale game and it also feels like an animated series or animated movie, it can also be compared to the graphics of Team Fortress 2.
  17. A great arsenal of weapons, with many variants. These include rocket launchers, SMGs, shotguns, assault rifles, sniper rifles, grenades, grenade launchers, pistols, revolvers, and more. They can be found in houses and treasure chests, and some are more effective than others.
  18. The soundtrack is great, with music such as Coral Chorus and Paws and Claws.
  19. Although the game is technically post-apocalyptic, it does not rely on fear and is quite light-hearted and funny in many areas.
  20. There was a meteor in the Battle Royale game mode, teasing a new update, and this allowed fans to speculate where the meteor would hit, which is a good way to tease a new update. They have done stuff similar to that for future seasons.

Bad Qualities

NOTE: These reasons mostly only apply to Battle Royale and to a lesser extent, Save the World, as Fortnite Creative is still okay.

Overall

  1. The controls, while decent and easy to use, have some bugs. The jump feels heavy and has little momentum and the characters run very slow, which is a problem when you have to escape the storm or escape an enemy. Also, the controls of the cars are not so good.
  2. The optimization, while nowhere near as bad as PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds, leaves a bit to be desired, with optimization on PC versions being a bit worse.
    • The Nintendo Switch version has slight gradient graphics and the lighting is sometimes very bright and sometimes very dark, while the iOS and Android versions also have gradient graphics.
  3. In 2020, Epic Games tried to bypass the payment cut of App Store and Play Store by introducing its own payment choice, which caused the game to be banned from both stores.

Battle Royale

  1. While the emotes are cool, they have issues:
    • Some of them have questionable sound decisions. For example, the "Laugh It Up" emote has a donkey noise instead of a normal laugh, and most players use it after they kill someone just to make them angry. Some can be choreographed like the idol series emote "Survivorsault", which is considered one of the most terrible emotes since it only does a single flip and nothing else.
    • Speaking of which, they recently started adding all the dances that got popular on TikTok, which makes players question the originality that Epic Games has when it comes to adding dances to the game.
      • Reportedly, Epic Games didn't give out any royalty payment to the original dancers whose moves originated from.
    • As some of the dances contain copyrighted music like "Never Gonna Give You Up" when Rickrolling, you can get your stream near-instantly terminated by YouTube or Twitch for copyright violations while dancing.
  2. The world, while pretty big, is rather dull and there aren't other maps beside it. There are also too many empty and free spaces where there are almost no weapons, which can hurt the gameplay, you must act fast and get the weapons.
  3. While many of the seasons were very good or even stunning, some were mediocre, or at worst, terrible. Here are a few examples:
    • While Season 1: Chapter 2 was not terrible and had new and different things, it was a rather dull and unattractive season. For example, its infamous duration. Since this was the longest season, it lasted 4 months and 2 weeks, leading to some players abandoning Fortnite and waiting for the next season every time. It’s also worth mentioning that it premiered on October 15, 2019, and ended on February 20, 2020, and both updates and content received very few changes. Along with that, some players were complaining that some matches had bots which was not enough to kill you due to very clunky and questionable aim.
    • Season 6: Chapter 2 is a really bad season.
      • The concept of it being primitive was not liked by many due to the annoying wolf and velociraptor enemies causing more frustration among players.
      • The collaborations like NBA, Rocket League and Horizon Zero Dawn were disappointing and unappealing.
      • Finally, the one that is worth mentioning is the secret skin of the battle pass, Neymar. While his skin is good-looking, the secret skin is a disappointment since he does not fit the season theme very well (Believe it or not, each battle passes, and the season usually has its lore and they become interesting).
  4. Overpriced micro-transactions even for a free-to-play game. Epic Games brought back the original Default skins (Agent Ramirez and Jonesy by their names in Save The World) with clothing variations for nostalgia-baiting. They were also 800 V-Bucks per skin which is overly expensive for something that you already have. The only new thing you get from them is the different clothes they wear.
    • Speaking of which, it costs $10 to get 1000 V-Bucks. The more popular items usually cost 2000 V-Bucks ($20) or more, which can be expensive even for an in-game character.
    • Several items can even be found in bundles sold at retail for about $30 or more.
    • In rare cases, some of these items are system locked, meaning that you have to buy a special edition Fortnite branded console (or controller in the case of the Neo Versa bundle) to get codes for certain items and some in-game currency for other items, some of which have currently expired. If you are absolutely lucky, you may find these codes individually on eBay.
  5. While many skins are very nice and cool, there are some ugly and unappealing skins (which used to be in the store before) that are not worth spending. Here are some examples:
    • Mincemeat, which is a hideous and grotesque skin that is of a minced meat pie. But the terrible thing is that its design is inconsistent, as it may look like a chocolate pie instead of a minced meat pie. It’s so grotesque that some people will find it disgusting.
    • Dynamo, which is a skin that has a Mexican wrestler costume. However, the skin is terrible and unoriginal, since the colors that she brings in her costume look mediocre and are extremely questionable because you easily don't find it flashy not it can attract your attention.
    • Fabio Sparklemane, which is a skin that looks like a unicorium and is in the battle pass of Season 8 of Chapter 2, although its design is not bad, it looks weird and unappealing, but also considered as the worst skin of season 8 of chapter 2. It also shows that nobody uses it.
    • Flytrap, which is a skin that is a combination of a plant and a humanoid, but to see the skin after a few seconds, it's an extremely ugly and horrendous skin since as mentioned before, it is a humanoid plant.
    • Green Arrow, which is a DC skin that was the second skin of the Fortnite Crew. Although it is not horrible, the skin is completely ordinary, simple, and unappealing, since the suit has too off and boring colors and also lacks green. So the question is, if you’re going to name your character after a color, why didn’t you include the color in the skin?
    • Thanos, which is a Marvel skin based on the Avengers: Infinity War and Endgame movies. Although the skin is very faithful to the original, it’s a terrible skin, since many people and players criticized the gameplay of the skin, since it felt very clunky and awkward due to it being too big. And also, it can kill you easily, which makes many regret buying it.
    • Grimbles, which is a skin that has an ornate goblin design. However, as always, the skin is ugly and awful. The face of the goblin may come as pretty scary, and it was even highly criticized for being one of the worst skins and also the ugliest.
  6. The balancing in the game has been extremely poor in the past.
    • The Infinity Blade item was controversial due to it being overpowered and capable of killing a player in one (or, if you're lucky enough, two) shot. It even ruined competitive tournaments.
    • Mechs in Season X were also extremely overpowered and made the game very unpopular.
    • It could also be annoying to play against someone with the Mythic Chapter 2 weapons, especially the Mythic Superpowers as lots of people will depend on them.
  7. Just like any other battle royale game, it is pretty RNG-based. You can land somewhere and you can be shot to death. Even the weapons are very RNG-based.
  8. At the end of Season 10 after the black hole event had occurred, there was no warning given to players about the game going on maintenance to make preparations for Chapter 2, making them believe the game shut down.
  9. The building mechanic is a bit limited since you can't build some shapes due to the type of material you're currently using.
  10. The Playground mode arguably broke the skill level since players were able to practice building, allowing them to build tall towers in a matter of seconds. This has gotten so bad that some have sworn off the game completely.
    • In August 2021, Epic Games introduced an in-game event in honor of the late civil rights activist Martin Luther King Jr. However, controversy arises over the fact that Epic Games does not disable most of the in-game dances and emotes in the event zone. Some emotes are downright insulting to the context of the event, such as the whip crack emote (which Epic Games didn't disable due to a licensing issue, as this emote was introduced during a collab with DC's Catwoman), which represented a slavery act.
  11. In July 2021, a new game mode was added that was called Impostors, which is an exact copy of the Among Us gameplay mechanic. To add more salt to the wound, according to Innersloth the developer of Among Us, they have contracted Epic Games to make an official collab with Fortnite. However, Epic Games rejected the proposal and came up with the Impostors mode instead. Fortunately (or unfortunately) it was removed due to the 21.50 update and to focus on other things in the game.

Save the World

  1. Save the World is pretty much dead, considering that the Battle Royale mode took over in terms of popularity. Epic Games also hasn't been updating Save the World that much, with Battle Royale getting the most updates.

Game Tips

Battle Royale

  • Doors that are open mean that the house you want to loot is most likely already looted.
  • Be alert of any sound, players might be near and they might shoot you to death.
  • If you get lost in the storm, quickly sprint out of there. If you need to, use bandages to increase your chance of making it alive or, better yet, use a medkit. However, this isn't recommended since it will only waste time.
