"From the Oven" is the thirty-ninth episode in the first season of The Garfield Show.
Plot
Jon accidentally follows a monster movie instead of a cooking show's recipe while baking a cake. It becomes a Frankenstein-like monster and attempts to eat him, Garfield and Odie.
Why It Rocks
- The plot is very interesting, as it has Jon accidentally following a Frankenstein parody recipe for a perfect monster instead of a birthday cake, causing the cake to turn into a hungry monster!
- Speaking of which, the cake monster looks pretty cool and impressive, along with Garfield's giant tuna sandwich.
- The cake monster also got Eddie's show renewed for a second season when the critic saw it crashing the building.
- Garfield riding Odie was a clever move, along with him leaving the cake monster on the antenna near Eddie Gourmand's place.
- Garfield, Jon and Odie are still tolerable characters and don't show their flanderization, like many of the other good/decent episodes.
- Good Ending: When Garfield leaves the cake monster up on the antenna near Eddie's place, lots of cake starts pouring down, ending with Garfield wishing Odie a happy birthday.
Bad Qualities
- Eddie's critic threatening to cancel his show was a bit mean-spirited, just because he doesn't like watching others cook.
- Garfield was pretty dumb at the start for not following the cake recipe correctly, but then again Jon adding the scientific ingredients can be justified due to the cooking show switching to the monster movie.
Reception
It holds a rating of 7/10 on IMDB.
Trivia
The monster movie Garfield and Odie were watching is a parody of Frankenstein.
