Summary

The Smurfs try to get Gargamel and Azrael to change from bad to good, but their secret is revealed and the wizard found out he was tricked. It's up to Papa Smurf to stop Gargamel and return things to normal.

Good Qualities

  1. This episode is a slight improvement over "Gargamel the Generous". The Smurfs pretend as angels and devils to convince Gargamel and Azrael to change their ways, but their plans backfire when Gargamel finds out.
  2. Good animation and voice acting.
  3. It was clever for Gargamel to figure out the devils were actually a prank set up by the Smurfs.
  4. While the ending was borderline on Status Quo, it was creative for Papa Smurf and Feathers to hide behind a cloud, while tossing eggs at Gargamel.
  5. Although religion is prohibited in Hanna-Barbera's other Saturday morning cartoons, The Smurfs made an exception here. They were able to portray the Smurfs as devils and angels in a scene where they force Gargamel to change his ways.
  6. The idea of rehabilitation through trickery is a good concept for a villain to see the error of his/her ways.
  7. Funny moments, such as Gargamel getting hit with eggs by a mysterious cloud.

The Only Bad Quality

  1. Despite its good concept of rehabilitating villains into good guys with trickery, it is brought down by the Status Quo. The ending shows Papa Smurf convincing his little Smurfs to not come up with anymore plans into changing Gargamel's ways.
    • The ending for the Mickey Mouse Works short, Mickey's Remedy did it better. Donald's nephews learn their lesson in the end and started doing their homework.
