Hilda is a British-Canadian animated television series based on the graphic novel series of the same name by Luke Pearson. Produced by Silvergate Media and Mercury Filmworks.

Plot

The show follows the adventures of fearless Hilda, a blue-haired girl who, along with her adorable deerfox Twig, travels to the city of Trolberg, where she befriends even the most dangerous monsters.

Why It's a Life of an Adventurer

  1. First to start off, it is very faithful to the source material as it was retold to a much more better version then the novel series.
  2. The animation is smooth and detailed.
  3. The characters are adorable and likeable, especially Twig, Alfur, Hilda, David, Frida and The Great Raven!
    • Hilda is a very likable character, as she likes to help solve problems, making her good role-model for kids.
  4. The creature designs are really creative like the Woodman, Trolls, Elves, Giants, etc.
  5. The Marras are one of the most well thought out villains in the series as they are teenagers that use magic to invade the dreams of people.
  6. It borrows elements from American shows like Gravity Falls, Over The Garden Wall, and Adventure Time and uses them very well.
  7. The creator of the graphic novels was involved with this show.
  8. Very good theme music, composed by Grimes.
  9. In Season 2, we go into deeper yet relatable issues like how Hilda and her mother are starting to have conflict in their relationship.
    • Also, "Chapter 9: The Deerfox" an episode from this season was very tear-jerking.

Bad Qualities

  1. Since this show is mostly targeted towards children, Hilda's dialogue is rather simple and cheesy for the most part.
  2. Frida was really unlikable in the episode "Chapter 9: The Ghost".
  3. The Nisse are also unlikable for they are the ones who stole Frida’s book in the first place, which tore her and Hilda’s friendship.
  4. Some characters were absent in Season 2. A big example being The Great Raven who was a major character, but for some reason, he is no longer seen or mentioned.

  • This show is well known for winning Annie Awards for "Best Children's Series" twice in two years, as well as winning Emmy Awards for "Outstanding Main Title Sequence", "Outstanding Children's TV Series" and "Outstanding Editing in a Daytime Program", tying the latter award with the Hulu revival of Animaniacs.
