Plot

Two trouble-making kids Mikey and Jay go on crazy adventures.

So You See, This Is Why This Show Is In Big Trouble

Overall

  1. First off, this show was made nearly 5 months after the Dhar Mann protest incident where many of his fans believed that the actors Mikey and Jay were fired, both of the actors were not featured at all during the incident until late May Dhar Mann announced about the series being made. In which most of Dhar's fans stopped watching Dhar's videos after this.
  2. Most of the characters were flanderized and were not like their previous selves.
    1. Mikey went from being a good kid in "Big Bro Has to Say YES for 48 HOURS" to being a troublemaker in the last two episodes
      • In fact, his most infamous plan was when he broke into the Superstore and got Jay and Noah involved.
    2. The same can also be said of Jay, who also became a troublemaker in the last two episodes
    3. Noah went from being a good kid to being a troublemaker who follows Mikey's commands.
    4. Jay's mother Regina Lawson became a more abusive parent to Jay, in which she made Jay a slave to other people by walking their dogs for free.
      • In fact, she is shown often to make stupid-looking angry faces at Jay.
      • Jay's mom got flanderized during the series, mostly due to how crappy Dhar Mann is with writing characters. Especially since nine times out of ten, his characters have hardly any character development.
      • During the first episode of Season 2, she stupidly allows Jay to use her credit card and leave her car keys unattended so Jay drives her car, while underaged, and she stupidly leaves her house keys behind in the second episode.
    5. Mikey's mother Kathy Miller got flanderized on the last episode of the show, in which she is shown to be more abusive to Mikey.
    6. All of the parents in the show are flanderized to be abusive to their children, all of them pretend to be robbers to teach their kids a lesson, which no normal parents would do and they would instead call the police.
  3. Like most of Dhar Mann's videos, it suffers from poor editing and cinematography.
    • One example can be seen in the episode "Jay Gets His 1st Kiss" in the scene where Mikey gets slapped by Dana, if you look closely she missed.
    • During the scene where Noah and Mikey play NBA 2K23, when Mikey is about to make his player that he’s controlling dunk, he presses the circle button on his PlayStation 5 controller, which is not the button to dunk in said game. The button to dunk is square or the right stick.
    • During the Dragon City advertisement in Season 2, it is just fake footage played on the phone, and it's poorly edited on the phones as the screen for the footage is cut off.
    • The same issues go for the Empires & Puzzles advertisement, which showcases fake footage and the finger swipes do not match the gameplay.
    • In Season 2 Episode 3, the word Fortnite is misspelled as "Fornite".
    • In Season 2 Episode 4, for the scenes where Brandy Goldberg Spears Jay, she doesn't even spear him at all, instead just appearing near him without even hitting him.
      • Also in the same episode, one of the scenes implies Jay put ghost pepper sauce on his mother's spaghetti at the end, but if you look closely at the spaghetti, no sauce matches the color of the ghost pepper sauce Jay put in.
  4. Additionally, the thumbnails for the episodes also are randomly changed by a bot to something that doesn't even fit at all, and it tends to go back and forth like the bot doesn't even want to make up its mind.
  5. Poor acting from most of the actors, for example, the actress of Dana is wooden for some of her lines and says some of the lines like it's a question.
  6. Also for some reason, in most of the episodes there is no life lesson being taught at the end. Which goes against Dhar's typical video style.
    • It is also uploaded to his channel, which has many videos with a moral at the end, but these videos have no moral whatsoever. It seems as if Dhar Mann wants to be owned by Disney/Nickelodeon.
  7. False Advertising: Despite the title of the show being called "Jay & Mikey", Jay is the one who has the most spotlight and not Mikey (Who was the first character to start the misbehaving kid spotlight in the Dhar Mann universe, until Jay was introduced) Mikey doesn't appear in Episode 4 (though it is implied that Mikey went to summer school in the same episode).
    • So much so that Dhar Mann commented saying that Mikey will have his series, which is a rehash of this.
  8. Many characters do not get any comeuppance for doing bad things to Mikey and Jay, making them Karma Houdinis.
    1. Dana doesn't get any comeuppance for slapping Mikey (Which is considered to be assault)
    2. The Jewish priest in "Jay Becomes Jewish" ends up using Jay for money, he doesn't even allow Jay to donate any amount he wants instead of all the money he has.
  9. Much like the previous Dhar Mann videos that introduce things that are not released yet, such as the PlayStation 6, which boxes are briefly shown in Season 2's second episode.
  10. Each episode ends with a spoiler for the next episode, which can ruin the impact for the viewers having to wait the next week for the next episode.
  11. Overall, this is a bad start to Dhar's series creation in which he follows most of the downfall tropes of a show.

Season 1 (Jay & Mikey)

  1. For some reason, Mikey's mother Kathy Miller hasn't appeared in the series despite being Mikey's legal guardian, she would later be mentioned in Episode 6 in which she tries to Facetime Mikey on the phone. She would later appear in Episode 7, but much like Jay's mom she also got flanderized to be unlikeable.
    • The same goes for Jay's brothers Issac and Grant, in which only one of them is mentioned.
    • Additionally, Jay's mother Regina Lawson didn't appear until Episode 3, and early trailers spoiled parts of Episode 3 where she got flanderized.
  2. It has some notable gross moments, for example, "Jay Gets His 1st Job" has notable scenes where dog feces are featured, and in fact, one of them shows Jay falling on them which ends up landing on his face.
    • There are mentions of and scenes of dog poop, and there are even dog poop jokes. Although this would be good for shock value, isn't good for overall humor.
  3. The series also has a lot of plotholes in it.
    • In the episode "Jay Gets His 1st Job", one of the teachers at Mikey's school (Who didn't even teach Mikey in the previous videos, who seems to be a replacement for Mr. Wilson since the actor for Colin A. Borden was fired by Dhar Mann) says that Mikey cheated on one of her tests, even though he never appeared to be doing that in the video earlier called "Big Bro Has to Say YES for 48 HOURS" where he studied for a test and passed. And also Mikey wouldn't even have graduated Elementary school in the first place if she discovered the cheating beforehand. In fact, in the next episode, he doesn't even go to summer school so what's the point of this scene?
    • In the episode "Jay Becomes Jewish", Jay becomes Jewish just to get money. In reality, Jay cannot "become" Jewish instantly because normally it should take a bunch of time and effort to know the Hebrew language and he would have to follow these beliefs. Jay no longer becomes Jewish in the next episode so what's the point?
    • In Episode 7, when Noah tries to call 911 the call fails due to not having no phone service, despite the fact in real life you can still make a successful call to 911 even if your device has no network signal. This is yet another reason why Dhar Mann needs more research before rushing his videos out.
    • Mikey's mother says to Mikey that his PS5 is gone for good, yet it is his younger brother Jayden's PS5. It's like Dhar Mann wrote Jayden off the show and forgot that he existed.
  4. Episode 6 was very rushed to the point that the episode will be made in 2 parts, and the 2nd part will end up being the final episode of the show.
  5. Terrible Ending: Episode 7 ends off with the parents disguising themselves as robbers to teach and punish their children, after the children are all forced to clean up the store it just ends off there, as a cliffhanger.
    • Additionally if it was a different store, the parents would have been easily arrested for robbery.
    • Also no normal parents would have done this, instead, they would have called the police to check the store.
    • Also by the first episode of season 2, they are now ungrounded, so what's the point?

Season 2 (Jay's World)

  1. There are still plotholes in the series.
    • Episode 1
      • It was Jay's Mom's idea to let Jay and his friends use her credit card and leave them unattended. Shouldn't she have been arrested by the police for child endangerment, considering she left her car keys unattended and let her son drive her car?
      • Where did Jay leave his mom's credit card?
    • Episode 2
      • How did Jay pay for tickets for his mom and his brothers?
      • How did Jay's mom arrive back to the house early from her plane flight in China, and also how did she get inside the house's basement without any ladder?
      • How did Mikey's mom get inside Jay's mom's house?
      • How were Mikey, Jay, and Noah able to build and remodel houses in episode 2, yet they were never shown to have any experience with doing anything for building?
    • Episode 3
      • Where did Jay even get a pet spider from? In earlier episodes, he has no spider as a pet.
      • Jay's mom says in this episode "This is the first time I'm actually leaving you all alone." yet she left Jay home alone in "Kid Is Left HOME ALONE On CHRISTMAS"
      • How was Jay's mom able to hire 30+ babysitters in one day?
    • Episode 4
      • How did Jay's mom convince her co-worker friend to bring her daughter with her to use as a prop to teach Jay a lesson?
  2. Episode 2 references Mischief Mikey season 1 of all the bad things Mikey did, in fact, it even hints that a second season of the show will happen.
  3. Poor Research: Noah's Dad says "All the kids be playin' Dragon City." yet the player base for the game has started to go down over the years, additionally the actor for one of the customers Azeem Vecchio says he has playing since middle school, yet the game came out in May 2012, and he would be 16 freshmen or a junior in high school, and the game was not popular back then considering it was a Facebook exclusive and mobile versions would come out a year later.
    • Additionally the Uber service is not just $10 for a single ride, you have to pay more than that.
  4. Episode 1 of the second season has a girl dropping the f-bomb, despite Dhar claiming he is family-friendly, with some audio-splitting tools, you can hear it more clearly.[1]
  5. Also Episode 1 has two music references, "Candy Shop" by 50 Cent, and "Gin & Juice" by Snoop Dogg, both of which are inappropriate songs as they both feature swear words.
    • In addition, when Mikey, Jay, and Noah are singing the latter, they replace the title with "Apple Juice", and afterward Jay says "This Kids Bop radio goes hard!", although Kidz Bop never covered that song.
  6. The VR footage for the first episode is made in the live-action format, instead of using a VR game or MMO footage, the girls in the footage look to be much older than Jay, Mikey, and Noah making it pedophiliac.
    • In fact, Dhar said in the final episode of Sister Secrets "Thanks for the feedback on how there seems to be too big of an age gap between Penelope and her date. They were meant to play a similar age range. We’ll make sure to do better to establish ages in the dialogue and cast actors more carefully. We'll do better!", yet a week later he repeats that mistake.
  7. Last Minute Change: For some reason, the entire show was renamed to Jay's World for its second season the descriptions were left unmodified and still mention its original name.
  8. Bad Moral: Episode 1 teaches you that if you commit crimes, the police will leave you off with a warning, and you won't be punished by your parents if you are in the VR world.
  9. The first episode advertises Dragon City in the middle of the episode, and also the subtitles disappear during the advertisement when Dhar is talking, despite the subtitles being distracting.
    • The second episode advertises Empires & Puzzles, this time at the beginning of the episode, the said advertisement teaches people to be addicted to video games.
    • The third episode advertises Word Farm Adventure, like with episode 2, it's at the beginning of the episode.
    • The fourth episode thankfully does not have one.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Jay and Mikey's actors Kaido Lee Roberts and Shaun Dixon still do a great job with their roles and are much more expressive than the other actors in the show, and Shaunte Massard still does a great job with Jay's mom.
  2. At least Jay and Mikey themselves are more likable in this show as they are shown to be mature until the last two episodes

Trivia

  • Since Mr. Wilson's actor Colin A. Borden was fired by Dhar Mann, he doesn't appear in the show.
