Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger VS Keisatsu Sentai Patranger (快盗戦隊ルパンレンジャー VS 警察戦隊パトレンジャー Kaitō Sentai Rupanrenjā Bui Esu Keisatsu Sentai Patorenjā), translated as Phantom Thief Squadron Lupinranger VS Police Squadron Patranger, is the 42nd entry in the Super Sentai franchise. It is also the first Super Sentai entry to involve two Sentai teams at the same time. It joined Kamen Rider Build on the Super Hero Time block on February 11, 2018, replacing Uchu Sentai Kyuranger. After Build's finale, Kamen Rider Zi-O joined Lupinranger VS Patranger on the Super Hero Time block. It ended on February 10, 2019, and was replaced by the 4 Week Continuous Special Super Sentai Strongest Battle!! and later Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger in March 2019 as part of the Super Hero Time block.

It has a "cops and robbers" type of theme focusing on two competing Super Sentai teams, with one a police force and the other being a band of thieves.

Bad Qualities

  1. It's a massive downgrade from the previous season, and it tries way too hard to be as dark and tragic as it seems, usually falling into a much more light-hearted and comedic tone.
  2. The show feels like it's a rehash of Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, with some elements from the Lupinrangers copy-pasted from Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger and finally some of lighthearted, silly and slapstick nature was borrowed from Engine Sentai Go-Onger.
  3. Even though they advertise that this show is for "kids", it shows scenes that include drug material, occasional alcohol drinking, blood, gun violence and gambling, which aren't kid friendly materials, and could be an influence young audiences.
  4. Possibly the least likeable characters that the sentai franchise has offered, with Kairi Yano/LupinRed being an immature, unbearable, reckless and constantly being an annoyance towards his teammates and making tons of unfunny jokes, Sakuya Hikawa/Patren2gou is nothing but an butt-monkey type character, and is also a Spoiled brat similar to Misao Mondou.
  5. Kogure is the most useless mentor figure in the history of Super Sentai, as he barely contributed to the main storyline as well as not being seen helping the Lupinrangers either in their civilian battles or their transformed battles, instead all he cares about is the Lupin Collection that the Lupinrangers steal from the Ganglers, and his revelation that he is the same race as Noel was extremely underwhelming, as it was never properly given an explanation nor did Kogure gave slight hints that may seem that he is from that particular race.
  6. Commander Hilltop could also be considered a pretty useless mentor, Like Kogure he never aided the Patrangers properly only giving them their arsenal as well as giving orders to them at times, we never even got a depth to his backstory of why he worked at GSPO.
  7. As of the second run of the show, they discarded the whole VS concept and instead had the storyline revolving around Kairi Yano, Keiichiro Asaka and Noel Takao, thus halting character developments from the other Lupinrangers, the same goes for the other Patrangers, and what's even worse is that at times the remaining characters has barely any contribution to the storyline and is barely present in the battlefield.
  8. Like in Zyuranger the civilians are utter morons, and don't even get curious of what are Lupinrangers' real identity or why do their voices sound kinda familiar, as not even questioning why are both the cops and thieves working together.
  9. The final battle with Dogranio was a bit underwhelming, and as the time where Keiichiro tried to finish Dogranio it was cut into a big confusing cliffhanger whether Keiichiro really Destroyed Dogranio or that he was too naive because although Keiichiro hated the Lupins at first he couldn't take the risk of Seeing his former rival and best friend get blown up in pieces.
  10. Despite the Crossover with Kyuranger being decent, it had some things that rather didn't make any sense whatsoever, such as:
    • The Lupinrangers turning into the Patranger, though it did have a passable fight scene as well as some really funny dialogue, the whole concept just feels so stupid, as it existed as some weird fan service or a gimmick to make the movie somewhat more interesting.
    • Another example fan service is Misao's Cameo it was so pointless to the point that they only included him to make it seem that he was going to participate in the final showdown, instead he was just there to deliver probably some of the cringiest dialogue in a sentai crossover movie, and even breaking the fourth wall stating that his season never had a crossover, which sounds absolutely stupid as Zyuohger did have a crossover with an infamous sentai season.
    • The remaining Kyurangers didn't appear until the final showdown, and we were never given a proper explanation on why did they only appear for a specific amount of time in the movie.
  11. Some characters came out as very underdeveloped as was given some of the most poorly written and stupidest focus episodes to date in sentai history such as, Umika Hayami, Tsukasa Myoujin and Sakuya Hikawa, granted they did have some moments at their best but because of how poorly treated they were in the season, their development came out really stale.
  12. Kairi and Noel's quotes and catchphrases are extremely annoying, as you'll tend to hear it for the show's entire run, THEY even tend to say for no reason whatsoever, as if like they decided to add these to the show, to make it seem more like a decent recurring bit, that came out as nothing as purely unbearable, extremely ear-piercing and nerve-crawling.
  13. Their summer movie, Kaitou Sentai Lupinranger vs Keisatsu Sentai Patranger en film, is terrible, as it feels so out of place towards the main show not only that is the main antagonist Herlock Sholmes, is an extremely boring movie antagonist, and what's even worse is that the other characters didn't serve that much purpose to the movie either, and not to mention the infamous dining room battle was extremely boring as it was masked by some really awful dialogue.
  14. For some reason this season never had an ending theme, it was never explained why they discarded an ending theme for Lupinranger vs Patranger, as such this is the first sentai season to not feature an ending theme, for unknown reasons why in the development of this show they never thought of incorporating an ending theme, as if TOEI was just lazy enough to even bother created an ending theme for this show, maybe they thought that if they created an ending theme for this show it wouldn't fit in with the show's theme, which just sounds stupid, as some sentai shows does have some ending themes that feels so forgettable and lack-lusting towards the show itself, but for this season why not bother giving it one.
  15. The mecha designs are atrocious (save for LupinKaiser), as not only does the mismatching coloring looks awful, and while it does have a very simplistic feel, the head for Patkaiser looks a bit too wide and has more like a strange brick feeling to it, and the fact that they were really lazy for GoodCool Kaiser VSX, as it absolutely looks atrociously ugly, the worst thing about that formation is the fact that they decided to give it all to the lower part of the mecha formation, while it did have some slight hints of effort, but it looks stupid because it's just a bunch of mecha attached to the legs.
  16. The mech battles are a hit or miss, as it could really bland, lack-lusting, and the CGI could just make it unappealing and slightly less thrilling, and at times could do the same technique within most of the Showa-era seasons, as it could jump straight in to the finisher move, even with some of the auxiliary mech tend to be incorporated it still tends to be not much any different, as it still tends to be lack-lusting.
  17. The Villains are also a hit or miss (with the exception of Zamigo Delma), as most of them don't get proper character development, and some of them don't even tend to participate in the battlefield, rendering their purpose useless, and the MoTw tend to have no personalities at all, and most of them tend to have bland generic evil personality and most of their designs could range from awful to extremely unappealing.

Good Qualities

  1. Touma Yoimachi (Lupin Blue), Keiichiro Asaka (Patren 1gou/Red) and Tsukasa Myoujin (Patren 3gou/Pink) (despite being underdeveloped) are really tolerable and likeable characters,
    • Touma (Lupin Blue) does have some decent character development, as well as some of the best fight scenes throughout the show, as well as having some of the great moments throughout the show.
    • While Tsukasa (Patren 3gou/Pink) is quite underdeveloped, she does have some moments where she really at her best, and her obsession with stuffed animals are quite adorable and hilarious, as well as being the most serious member of the Patranger, while she could be naive at times, she does manage to pull off a really savage fight.
    • Keiichiro (Patren 1gou/Red) is usually responsible for having the greatest comedy bits, throughout the show, such as his famous ONORE KAITO quote, and some moments such as the time where he had a necklace stuck into his body, there are some scenes where Keiichiro would get mad at Sakuya only to revert back in a somewhat comedic phase.
  2. It is the first sentai season to feature a Sixth Ranger to have two ranger identities, and instead of being auxiliary forms, they are actual default forms that could interchanged vice versa.
  3. The OST is at least nice to listen at, as it is filled with songs that are could really get your blood pumping, even if some of the song are the weaker ones.
  4. The opening theme is at least decent to listen at, and the best thing about the theme song is the fact that it has some interchanging lyrics for both teams.
  5. The suit designs for both teams absolutely looks amazing, the simplistic feel towards the Patrangers' suit give it a more attractive feeling, while the color combination of the Lupinrangers' suit looks pretty badass, and the added cape on their suits might feel a bit wacky at first, but once you look into it for a while you'll get into as it adds some nice aesthetics towards the suit, and finally Lupin X and Patren X's suit has the best look as well as having the greatest additions added to them.
  6. The fight scenes are still pretty cool to watch, especially some of fight scenes for whenever both teams are clashing or conjoined as one, in order to defeat the Gangler, and most of the time it's decently choreographed.
  7. Zamigo Delma is the only tolerable villain, and is the most threatening one as a whole, we also learned that Zamigo was responsible for the rise of the Lupinrangers' as he was the one who froze and abducted their loved ones, and he was also responsible for killing the original Patren2gou (Satoru Shinonome), and his quotes aren't as unbearable and ear-piercing as contrast to Kairi's.
