'Kid Cosmic' is an American animated action-comedy web series created by Craig McCracken (the same creator of The Powerpuff Girls, Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends and Wander Over Yonder) for Netflix.
Why It's Cosmic
- It has an appealing art style that resembles an old-school comic book and certain 90s and 2000s cartoons.
- The characters have creative designs.
- Despite the art style being simplistic; the desert is the background with the most detailed design.
- Memorable and likable characters:
- Kid is a relatable character for the people who are incompetent in something they dream to do (in case of Kid, defeating villains and saving the world).
- Jo is caring, kind at heart and daydreams of seeing the world. She also has a good dynamic with Kid.
- Rosa is an adorable and playful character who enjoys fighting.
- Papa G's friendly personality works with the clever morals he tells. He's also always to make his grandson, Kid, happy.
- Stuck Chuck started as a mediocre villain who has been stuck on Kid's Trailer for having lost his legs and tried so hard to hurt Kid either physically or emotionally. In the latest episodes, he became good and helped Tuna Sandwich to assemble the team again.
- Phenomenal action with the powers from the stones mixing well despite being generic.
- Kid even steals the rings to become overpowered.
- There are some unintentional dark and emotional moments such as: Kid Cosmic's parents who died in a car crash, Jo breaking Kid's promise as a team, the aliens evacuated from Erodius, the flashback between Papa G's and Kid's bond days or weeks after Kid's parent has passed away, and Papa G's sacrifice to restore Erodius when his 14th power stone was with him all along, which is one of the saddest moments in all cartoons.
- Great morals such as: "You don't need to be always the best"
- It has some funny moments such as when Tuna Sandwich sends Jo 2 sheets (one with bad writing and the other with bad spelling) from Chuck and Rosa respectively.
- Excellent soundtrack, mainly consisting of rock orchestral and sometimes country. The main theme is catchy too.
- Great voice acting by: Jack Fisher, Amanda C. Miller, Lily Rose Silver, Tom Kenny, Fred Tatasciore and Keith Ferguson.
Not-So Cosmic Qualities
- There is no intro, which is a vitally important element to hint at what the series is about.
- The pacing can be a bit sluggish.
- The same thing is said with the seasons and episodes, which are very short, with season 1 consisting with 10 episodes, Season 2 having 8, and Season 3 having 6 episodes. The episode format is short as each goes for like 14-18 minutes before going into credits. Which is what make the show pacing troubled.
- It doesn't help that the series lasted very short having only 3 seasons and 24 episodes.
