Wander Over Yonder is an American animated television series on Disney XD. Created by Craig McCracken, it follows Wander and his best friend and steed Sylvia. Adventurous and optimistic, Wander rides across the galaxy to help persons live freely, against the intentions of Lord Hater to rule the universe. The series is McCracken's first production for Disney Television Animation; he previously helmed The Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends for Cartoon Network.
The series was originally aired on Disney Channel on August 16, 2013. New episodes were moved during its first season to Disney XD on March 31, 2014.
On June 23, 2014, Disney renewed the series for a second season. A set of 11 one-minute shorts were aired on the network starting in July 20, 2015, in promotion of the second season, which premiered on August 3, 2015.
On March 5, 2016, Craig McCracken announced that the show will not be returning for a third season and that the second season will be the series' last. He stated that he had plans to continue producing the show, but Disney declined to order more episodes. The half-hour series finale titled "The End of the Galaxy" aired on June 27, 2016 on Disney XD.
Why It's a Galaxy They Ever Wanted
- Absolutely beautiful, very appealing, and fluid animation and art style, especially for 2013 standards that still looks amazing to this day, which is reminiscent of The Golden Age of Animation, thanks to Mercury Filmworks (season 1) and Boulder Media (season 2).
- Funny and likable characters, especially Wander and Sylvia.
- The humor and jokes are funny along with some hilarious moments.
- The series gets even better by season 2 thanks to the addition of a new villain: Lord Dominator.
- Most of the morals are good.
- Great voice acting by: Jack McBrayer, April Winchell, Keith Ferguson and Tom Kenny (The titular character of SpongeBob SquarePants).
- Great and catchy songs such as "Hot Dog Eatin".
- Despite being made by Disney, the show settings and animation gives a huge 2000s Cartoon Network show vibe, it helps that this was created by Craig McCracken (The creator of original Powerpuff Girls and Foster's Home For Imaginary Friends).
- Great and threatening villains such as: Emperor Awesome, Lord Hater and Lord Dominator which is a new character that debuted in season 2.
- There are lots of memorable and good episodes such as:
- The Greatest (Left the first season as well as the entirety of the series with a good impression)
- The Egg
- The Picnic
- The Good Deed
- The Pet
- The Little Guy
- The Nice Guy
- The Time Bomb
- The Brainstorm
- The Epic Quest for Unfathomable Difficulty
- The Void
- The Fancy Party
- The Party Animal
- The Date
- The Buddies
- The Big Job
- The Helper
- The Gift
- The Rider (Which ended season 1 on a high note)
- The Greater Hater (A good premiere of season 2)
- The Big Day
- The Breakfast
- The Fremergency Fronfract
- The Boy Wander
- The Cool Guy
- The Good Bad Guy
- The Battle Royale
- The New Toy
- The Black Cube
- The Showstopper
- The Bot
- The Rival
- My Fair Hatey
- The Legend
- The Waste of Time
- The Hot Shot
- The Night Out
- The Search for Captain Tim
- The Flower
- The End of the Galaxy (which ended the season and the overall series on a high note)
- It had an amazing finale, despite somewhat a cliffhanger in the animatic.
- Most of the credits shows an animatic version of a certain scene which is interesting.
Bad Qualities That a Galaxy Never Wanted
- The theme song, while charming and lovely, can be annoying for some people and viewers, also, like The Nutshack and Billy Dilley, the word "Wander" is repeated a lot which can sometimes be irritating.
- Characters like Wander and Emperor Awesome can be annoying from time to time.
- Lord Hater became a stupid and generic villain instead of a threatening villain because he wanted to impress Lord Dominator until the very end of Season 2.
- There are too many smears, while not entirely a bad thing, it can be very weird when pausing it.
- There are some bad and mediocre episodes such as:
- The show ended way too fast lasting only 2 seasons and 43 episodes.
- Similar to Gumball, most of the episodes name have the word "The" at the start which can come off as unoriginal.
