The Box is the 10th episode or the first half of episode 6 of Season 1 and the overall episode of Wander Over Yonder
Plot
Wander tries to deliver the box to Glenn, but he loses control and starts opening the box. Sylvia attempts to restrain Wander's crazy actions by asking him to not open the box until Glenn arrives.
Boxed Up Qualities
- This is a mild Wander torture episode as he's forced to control his urges to open a box, long enough for him and Sylvia to deliver it to Glenn
- Wander's a bit annoying in this episode due to his uncontrollable behaviors when it comes to opening the box, especially the infamous scene where he screams after noticing that "Glenn" is gone fishing.
- This episode is a rehash of SpongeBob SquarePants' The Secret Box, but without the charm and humor due to Wander's intense behaviors and getting himself mildly tortured.
- The song "What's In The Box?" is annoying due to the singer singing "Box" 47 times.
- Plot Hole: After Wander pulls his fur in the forehead in the morning, his fur grows back quickly when he and Sylvia arrive in the train station.
- The word "box" is heard throughout the episode and it can get rather old too fast.
- The scene where Wander shouts "PAIR OF SOCKS!' after his hallucination tries to give the box to Wander is also annoying.
- The animatic in this episode also hears "Wander" so many times is also annoying, though it is rare to find.
- There are mean-spirited moments in this episode:
- The scene where Wander runs away and sees the box to several creatures after the hallucination attempt to grab the box.
- The entire "What's In The Box? Part 2" scene, though it was a dream.
- The infamous scene where Wander screams very loud and fights with Sylvia, even though she restrains him from doing so.
- Wander shouting at Sylvia after the fight (depending on your view).
- Sylvia grabs one of the Lords of Illumination and tries to kill him while the others are shocked, which causes him to agree to put something the box.
- Near the end of the episode, it's revealed that Glenn was a disguise and fake identity, the box delivery was all a test from Lords of Illuminations and that the box itself was empty the entire time, meaning that the episode was trying to invoke the message: "you cannot open something that doesn’t belong to you. It's important to resist." But this doesn't really work since, Wander's a literal-minded type and not the type of person who would understand the message, and he nearly lost his sanity for nothing. Sylvia even chews the Lords out for this, and forces them to put something in the box to satisfy Wander's urges, and bring him back to his senses.
- As mentioned before, the scene where Sylvia grabs one of the Lords of Illuminations' arm and turns his body around is not just mean-spirited, but also implies that Sylvia is a bully.
- Wander's infamous screaming and his ugly appearance are very unfitting and loud. Not helping the fact that there are colorful flowers that can cause epileptic seizures.
- There is an error in one scene, while Wander is shouting at Sylvia, his left shoe becomes mirrored, and thinks that it is a sandal.
Good Qualities
- Wander (for the most part, despite being annoying) and Sylvia are sill likable characters in this episode.
- There are a few emotional scenes:
- Sylvia asks to Wander to open the box after he shouts and insults her.
- The scene where they encounter Glenn (which is a twist since he was not fishing this whole time) and give Wander the box to him.
- Some hilarious lines:
- Wander's "PAIR OF SOCKS!"
- Wander's "YOU CAN'T BOX ME, BOXIA! I'M GONNA BOX THIS BOX AND THERE IS NOTH- A BOX A BOX BOX BOX BOX!"
- Sylvia's "Put. Something. In. The. BOX!", while her eyes are bloodshot.
- Good Ending: After the Lords of Illumination place some items in the box and open it (after Sylvia forced them to place something inside, due to Wander's curiosity and urges), Wander reverts back to his normal self and waves at them.
