Lalaloopsy is an animated children's television series based on the Lalaloopsy dolls from MGA Entertainment. The series first aired on March 29, 2013. The series' voice production was made and recorded in Calgary, AB, Canada, by Chinook Animation. After the first few episodes were aired on Nickelodeon, it was moved to Nick Jr. The show’s last episode aired on September 14, 2015, but reruns continued to air on the network until October 23, 2016.
A new Lalaloopsy animated series titled We're Lalaloopsy was released on January 10, 2017 on Netflix. The spinoff had a different art style from the previous series, and only included a very small portion of the Lalaloopsy characters.
Plot
Lalaloopsy focuses on Lalaloopsy Land. Lalaloopsy Land is inhabited by colorful rag dolls, who came to life the moment their last stitch was sewn. Each episode focuses on one or two groups of them facing a problem of their own and either solving it on their own or with incidental or previously planned help from the other group of dolls seen in the episode.
Why It Rocks
- The show has nice and colorful animation by MoonScope Entertainment. (now Splash Entertainment)
- Having the Lalaloopsy franchise by MGA Entertainment into a TV show is well done.
- The show, similar to Postman Pat, has a nice slice of life feel to it as it has lots of everyday situations such as:
- Berry wanting to break the world record for tallest stack of pancakes in the world in "Batter Up".
- Jewel wanting to show off her tiara collection by hosting a parade in "Princess Parade".
- Rosy trying to find a cure for a new disease (even though the disease was fake) in "Spotitis".
- Ace borrowing parts from his friends so he can fix Tippy's gramophone for her ballet show in "Ace in the Hole".
- The voice acting from Hayley Stone, Selia Sangra, Tate McRae, etc. is very impressive.
- There are a few good episodes such as:
- Batter Up (a decent way to start the series)
- Princess Parade
- Spotitis
- In A Jam
- Pickles Delivers
- Eight Legged Friend
- Lots of the characters in the show are very likeable, a few examples are:
- Jewel Sparkles, who is a kind and helpful princess to her friends and is great at hosting parties.
- Bea-Spells-a-Lot, who loves books, big words, is very smart, and is great at being a teacher as seen in "Sleepless in Lalaloopsy Land".
- Crumbs Sugar Cookie, who loves baking cookies and other desserts for her friends.
- Peanut Big Top, who pulls pranks on her friends, does funny tricks, and loves entertaining her friends.
- Rosy Bumps 'N' Bruises, who is a nice nurse who loves helping her friends out when they are sick or injured.
- Pillow Featherbed, who loves sleeping, counting sheep, comfortable areas, and bedtime stories.
- The theme song is nice and catchy and fun to listen to.
- Some of the characters in the show have their own catchphrases such as:
- "That's perfectly perfect!" - Jewel Sparkles
- "Prepare to be amazed!" - Peanut Big Top
- It managed to get a spin-off on Netflix called "We're Lalaloopsy".
- It even managed to get decent movies such as:
- Adventures in Lalaloopsy Land: The Search for Pillow (which came before the show was announced)
- Lalaloopsy: Band Together
- Lalaloopsy: Festival of Sugary Sweets
- Lalaloopsy Ponies: The Big Show
- The webisodes on the official Nick Jr. website were just as good as the show it's self.
Bad Qualities
- The animation, while nice and colorful, can look cheap sometimes.
- The show was taken off Nick Jr. sometime during October 2016, this was most likely done due to the lawsuit between MGA Entertainment and Viacom. This is also likely the reason the show was never released on Paramount+. (see "Trivia" below for more details)
Trivia
- The show was originally released in production by MGA Entertainment before Nickelodeon aired the show.
- In December 2015, Viacom filed a lawsuit against MGA Entertainment regarding the series. Viacom alleged that MGA did not deliver the sufficient funds in financing for the series. In September 2016, a judge awarded Viacom damages of over $14.9 million relating to the show.
