Loopy De Loop
No, not the Jellystone! version, where the title character was more of a fleshed-out female, we're only referring the original theatrical Hanna-Barbera cartoons. THIS Loopy is just a generic "good" wolf and was only appreciated more when C. H. Greenblatt made him female. But today is not the day these shorts get appreciated.

Loopy De Loop is a theatrical cartoon short series produced and directed by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera after leaving MGM and opening their new studio, Hanna-Barbera Productions. 48 cartoons were produced between 1959 and 1965 and released to theatres by Columbia Pictures. It was the final theatrical cartoon series to be produced by William Hanna and Joseph Barbera, including the only one to be produced by their studio.

Plot

Loopy is a gentleman wolf who mangled the English language in his bid to converse in a French-Canadian accent and always wore a characteristic tuque knit cap. A self-appointed good Samaritan, he dauntlessly fought to clear the bad name of wolves and would open every episode with his trademark introduction "I am Loopy De Loop, the good wolf." Though he was always kind and helpful, his exploits usually got him beaten up or chased out of town by the very people he had helped, all for no other reason than the prejudice of being a wolf. Still, he never lost faith and considered himself "kind, considerate and charming."

Why you may as well prefer Jellystone! more.

  1. These shorts never needed to be shown in movie theaters. This was just some attempt to compete against Bugs Bunny and Mickey Mouse.
  2. The animation quality fits more on television than in movie theaters.
  3. Compared to his female counterpart in Jellystone!, Loopy, the title character, isn't interesting.
    • He's just some poor attempt to copy Casper the Friendly Ghost, only he's a wolf with no charm and wasn't even fleshed out.
    • He's nothing but some French-Canadian stereotype.
    • He's just a kind-hearted wolf who is constantly punished because he's a wolf and nothing more.
  4. The abuse Loopy gets for doing good is always treated as a joke, making him lack sympathy.
  5. The other characters were also poorly written.
  6. The humor is so boring and lazy.
  7. The writing is so poorly done.
  8. This series of "theatrical" cartoon shorts tend to get extremely lazy every time again as they went on.
  9. It's not as memorable as any of Hanna-Barbera's other characters.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Despite lazy animation, the art style is quite nice.
  2. The voice acting was okay for the time being.
  3. Loopy was more likable in Jellystone! than he was in his original incarnations, as they the best character to swap gender. As she was portrayed more as aloof and sarcastic.
  4. Conceptually, these shorts would've been fine if they made for television in the first place.
