Lords Mobile is an MMO strategy game developed and published by Singaporean game developer IGG. The game is free-to-play and offers in-app purchases. According to App Annie, the game is one of the top grossing apps (strategy) on the App Store (iOS) and Google Play. The official description of the game states that it has more than 65 million players around the world.

Why It's Not the Lord

  1. This is yet another game attempting to cash on the Clash Of Clans craze.
  2. Excessive use of false advertising. It always consists of people playing the game and with fake gameplay footage with horrible CGI animation. Also, the ads can easily be compared to a cringe-worthy Let's Play. These adverts are mostly overplayed on YouTube. They are also everywhere and are extremely common and appear in all apps with ads, such as Angry Birds or Cut the Rope, which only makes the person want to buy the No Ads purchase.
    • Whenever other mediocre game developers popularize an ad format, Lords Mobile starts copying them, a recent example being the Fishdom plagiarism ads, which clearly reflect nothing of what you'll actually see in the game.
  3. It's another pay-to-win mobile game. This means you will most likely get defeated by players who spend a lot of money on the game several times. This can be considered a punishment for not buying anything in the game, which proves that the developers are fueled with greed.
  4. The tutorial of the game is boring.
  5. The developer of the game has poor customer support.
  6. The app icon rips off the design of the Clash Royale app icon.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The music is quite decent.
  2. The graphics are pretty decent, even for mobile game standards.

Reception

The game received mixed to negative reviews from critics and gamers, who criticized the excessive use of fake ads, gameplay, tutorial, and Microtransactions, but praised the graphics and music. In his review for GameZebo, Tom Christiansen pointed out that he barely made his way through the game's introduction. ("This sort of chore is typical (though to a lesser degree) in many mobile strategy games, but Lords Mobile has taken it to an extreme"). He said that the "saving grace" was a PvE mode by which players can control characters in real time in launch skills, but the rest of the gameplay sounded like a routine job, from which he wished the developers to get rid. However, it was a commercial success, and according to App Annie, the game is one of the top-grossing apps (strategy) on the App Store (iOS) and Google Play. The official description of the game states that it has more than 200 million players around the world.

The Taiwan commercial of the game, featuring "Banana" Huang Zi-Jiao, had become a meme there for its repetitive playing on YouTube.
