Mad Max
"And where does a man like Max go from here?"
Genre(s): Action
Platform(s): Nintendo Entertainment System
Release Date: July 1990
Developer(s): Mindscape
Publisher(s): Mindscape
Series: Mad Max

Why It Ain't a Lovely Day

  1. Repetitive and tedious gameplay. You drive Mad Max's car in various wasteland levels and stop by shops to repair and refuel your vehicle. When you have enough food and water, you can buy an arena pass and proceed to the arena stages where you must defeat several enemies in a given amount of time and reach the exit. You keep doing this only three times until you face Humungus.
  2. The game lacks a map, which, combined with the large levels, makes exploration much harder.
  3. Stiff controls, especially in the driving stages. It feels like the car itself is broken beyond repair.
  4. Speaking of the car, it has limited fuel. You automatically lose the whole game if you run out.
  5. Only one song in the entire game. You would think that Mindscape would hire a more competent composer, but just like Terminator, they tend to have the least talented composer out there.
  6. Poor grasp of the source material. Not one person can tell if it follows either the first Mad Max, Road Warrior or Beyond Thunderdome because of how haphazardly mashed up elements of each movie are throughout the level.
  7. Mediocre graphics. It isn't necessarily horrible, but it's just boring once you start playing, because all there is for each level is a slight palette swap and nothing more.
  8. The game has a password system, but one of the passwords which lead directly to the final boss is useless, as it brings the player to the boss fight with one crossbow, while at least two are needed to defeat him.
  9. The final boss is very difficult to defeat.
  10. The ending itself is not worth beating Humungus due to how terrible it is.

The Only Redeeming Quality

  1. Well, this game is bad, there has been innovation on this game to be open-world genre, you can explore whatever they want while there has much lack on this game.
