Madagascar: A Little Wild is an American computer-animated comedy streaming television series produced by DreamWorks Animation Television. It is the third TV series in the Madagascar franchise and the second prequel to the 2005 film. The series was released to Hulu and Peacock on September 7, 2020.

Plot

Like all who land in New York, the young residents of the Central Park Zoo have big dreams and big plans; in a celebration of being yourself and never giving up, Alex, Marty, Gloria, and Melman pursue their dreams with abandon, no matter the size.

Not-So-Wild Qualities

  1. The main problem with the show is that it's almost nothing but a rehash of the opening scene from Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa, where the four main characters were little and were after the beginning. Only here, said opening scene is stretched out for the entire series.
  2. None of the young main characters sound like how they sounded at the beginning of Madagascar 2.
  3. This show is a massive kick-in-the-balls to the Madagascar fandom because of the fact that DreamWorks Animation was originally planning to make a fourth movie to the franchise, but they later declined and made this instead.
  4. Very poor and cheesy writing.
  5. The only reason it was made was to capitalize on the success of the film series, which died out way before this show was even made. which includes the fact that Universal Pictures and DreamWorks Animation haven't even announced a fourth movie of the franchise because of Pacific Data Images being defunct and getting the chopping block in 2015, with the last movie from them being The Penguins of Madagascar which the film is originally released by 20th Century Studios, and then Universal Pictures later owns the rights to the movie in 2018 (the third film was originally released by Paramount Pictures just like Escape 2 Africa and it came out nine years ago and took four years to make), making this show even so more pointless.
    • On a side note, even if Pacific Data Images was shutdown, that doesn't mean DreamWorks can't make a sequel out of Madagascar, after all, they own the rights to it.
  6. A lot of characters from the movies aren't anywhere to be seen or even mentioned in this show such as Julien, Maurice, Mort, Willie, Phil, Mason, Skipper, Private, Rico, and Kowalski.
    • Speaking of the Penguins, they haven't made physical appearances in the series since they were little at the beginning of the franchise's spin-off movie The Penguins of Madagascar in 2014.
  7. Much like Total DramaRama, this is a pathetic attempt to keep the franchise going, as well as semi-revive the long-dead "spin-off babies" trope, maybe even to the point of becoming a cliché. Plus, it feels like an insult to the franchise.
  8. Some episodes are unnecessary and a waste of time to watch.
  9. Most of the seasons are extremely rushed since they only last 6 episodes each. Season 3 and Season 8 are only slightly better as they only last 7 episodes each.

Wild Qualities

  1. Like all Madagascar films, the CGI is breathtaking.
  2. The four main characters themselves are still amazing and likable, just like they were in the movies to this day. Likewise, Kate is also a likable character.
  3. Great soundtrack.
  4. Surprisingly great advertising: This show is said to be a second prequel series to the 2005 film.
  5. Adorable character designs, especially for Alex, Gloria, Melman, and Marty.
  6. Some memorable moments here, there, and wherever.
  7. Decent voice acting.
  8. The theme song is pretty good.
  9. It shares some good flashback segments.
  10. Seasons 3-8 are slight improvements.

Reception

Madagascar: A Little Wild currently has a rating of 5.9/10 on IMDb.
