"Mind the Giant!" is the 23rd episode from the Season 4 of Oggy and the Cockroaches.
Plot
Marky suddenly starts growing uncontrollably. Pretty soon he is even bigger than the house and just can’t get enough to eat. He is going to loot and pillage the city for food. The police are on the lookout for the thief. Oggy has to hide the roach...
Why It's A Giant Jerk of An Episode
- Marky is extremely unlikable and he is at his absolute worst as he torture not only Oggy but even the roaches, and even force them to make things for him even if they don't want to.
- This could show that he was horribly flanderized in this episode as because of all of this, he is out of character, especially that even before, he didn't did anything like this.
- Unlike "Inside Out" (An episode where the roaches also got giant) where it had comedy with the roaches becoming giant, here it is rather just for torturing everyone and causing troubles to the point that even the police out of all peoples went to Oggy house and even almost arrested him.
- Even worse, that episode used the torture elements really well with that episode using the cockroaches being giant but in a funny way but here Marky got giant just to force everyone doing what he want, so the plot is less interesting this time.
- It's an extreme torture episode for Oggy and the roaches (aside from Marky off course), to the point that even Oggy did team up with Dee Dee and Joey.
- Barely any funny slapsticks is found, yes there's a few of them but instead of being funny, they rather come off as painful to watch because here we talk about actual tortures and most of the time it is focused on Marky beating up poor Oggy or the roaches.
- So many plot holes, such as:
- How does the foods that make Marky becoming giant made him taller ? Especially that in real life it would not work even for an animal, or even an human.
- How does the police officer know where Oggy live despite no one calling the police from his or Olivia house, howewer this might probably because they followed Marky but if they did it cause another plot hole, which is:
- how does Marky didn't tried to kill the officers, even though he may not want to despite being a savage in this episode, this make the plot extremely confusing.
- And last, why does Oggy didn't give the foods that would make Marky shorter, because if he did this from the beginning, then all of this madness would had probably never happened, or at least would not be as catastrophic.
- Misleading Title: While yes Marky does get taller, he doesn't directly become a giant roache and it take almost the entire episode to be giant.
- The beating the roaches and especially Oggy get from Marky are extremely painful to watch and are sometime even a chore to the point of being way too violent, in a similar vein to "The Tiny Tyrant" from Zig & Sharko (which was no better if not worst than this Oggy episode).
- And mind you that Dee Dee and Joey are actually Marky best friends so this show how horrible of a friend Marky is here.
- In fact, they even try to being funny but due to how painful these scenes are, they just come off as mean-spirited and unfunny.
- The concept of this episode is not very well executed as not only does Marky isn't really giant (until the end) and also that concept was already made with "Inside Out" in which the roaches are also giant.
Redeeming Qualities
- Seing Oggy teaming up with the roaches is once again awesome to see, especially that with them, Oggy finally stopped Marky with that one being in jail and it give a very great ending.
- Great title card, even if it's slightly misleading.
- Good Ending: Unlike most bad episodes, here it end well because when Marky got shorter than the other roaches, he got chased by Dee Dee and Joey, which at least made him having comeuppance for his horrible action along with being in jail.
- Great animation and soundtrack.
- Oggy, Joey and Dee Dee are likable characters.
Trivia
- The title refers to the phrase "mind the gap".
- This is the second most viewed video on Oggy's channel.
