Naruto Shippuden: Ultimate Ninja Storm 2, known in Japan as Naruto Shippuden: Narutimate Storm 2, is a 2010 fighting video game developed by CyberConnect2 for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360. It is the second installment in the Ultimate Ninja Storm series, and the sequel to Naruto: Ultimate Ninja Storm, published by Namco Bandai Games. It is based on the anime and manga series Naruto by Masashi Kishimoto.

Why It Rocks

  1. The story mode is excellent, as it tells the second half of the Naruto story, from when Naruto returns to Konoha up until the fight with Pain. The story mode even features tons of awesome boss fights and Quicktime events to keep things fresh.
  2. It introduces the support types, which can depend on what support character you choose.
  3. Absolutely great graphics that looked better than lot of games released at the time, even goes as far as looking even better than some modern games. The graphics look exactly like the anime, they are colorful and the characters models are just perfect, much like the first game.
  4. The controls are extremely tight and responsive.
  5. It introduce the online mode, a first for the series, and that mode is excellent and give the game a lot of replay values.
  6. The game once again do a good job at staying faithful to both the manga and anime series, by featuring a lot of memorable characters from the franchise, Recreating lots of iconic moments from the anime, and having a story that keeps being faithful to the franchise.
  7. Lars from Tekken is a playable character, which was a huge surprise for Tekken fans.
  8. Excellent voice acting in both English and Japanese. The voice actors from the show reprise their roles here, including Maile Flannagan, Yuri Lowenthal, Crispin Freeman and more.
  9. The characters all feel balanced, and depending on what type of character you play as it will be different. All of the characters have unique movesets and none of them feel like clones of each other.
  10. The combat is really great, but this time, the combat is a lot more fast-paced and it's improvement to the predecessor.
  11. Great soundtrack, especially during battles. It even feel like the music come from the anime itself.
  12. It still had ton of replay values, even in the story mode, and they are even better than the first game because of the introduced online mode.

Bad Qualities

  1. The part 1 characters aren't featured at all for some reason, though it is probably because the game focus on Shippuden more than Part 1.
  2. Killer Bee only makes a small appearance.
  3. It removed some things that were in the first game, like wall fighting and jutsu clashes, which is never explained why.
    • It also removing the free-roam element, and replacing with fixed-camera, which is feel off for Naruto games.
  4. Even though the game have Online mode in the first place, they some issues, such as lagging and crashes.

Reception

The game received extremely positive reviews and is considered to be one of the best Naruto game, if not the best.

Trivia

  • Naruto in his Hokage attire is playable. In the Hokage costume, Naruto is still able to throw the Wind Release: Rasenshuriken, even though he is not in Sage Mode.
  • Previous game-only characters, created specifically for the Ultimate Ninja series, are all mentioned by Naruto at some point in the game. In Ultimate Adventure Mode, after purchasing and reading books that hint at previous adventures from the previous games, Naruto will receive letters from each of these characters. These characters include Aoi, Tsukino and Kasumi.
  • There is also a glitch that allows the player to go out of bounds. When a player is controlling Pain, (most effective on the Training Field stage), executes the chameleon summoning combo where only the chameleon's tail hits the opponent, the other player is knocked out of the boundaries of the stage. They are still bound to the area due to restraints keeping the other character from getting to far away, but this can be countered by using a technique that causes Pain to use Substitution to teleport behind the other player.
  • When Sasuke (Hebi) reverts from his awakening, his kimono remains undone for the remainder of the match. This visual aesthetic is also present in every subsequent game in the Ultimate Ninja Storm series except Naruto Shippūden: Ultimate Ninja Storm Revolution.
  • There is a glitch that allows the player to have both forms of Naruto as support characters during an online team match. The player must first select one of the forms, have the cursor set on the other, and wait for the time limit to run out. They will then have both Sage Mode/Hokage costume Naruto and regular Naruto as supports.
  • In Tekken 6, Lars Alexandersson's third costume is the same one he wears in Storm 2. This costume was designed by Naruto's author, Masashi Kishimoto. Therefore, it is most likely that Namco allowed Lars to be a guest character in the game for that reason.
  • Lars is the only character in the game to not have an English audio and only one winning phrase: "We have injured. Send a medic". Even if the player changes the language to English, he still does not speak English.
  • There is an extra chapter that is the story of Sasuke fighting Killer B. This story is unlocked by collecting all of the cursed dolls. The only differences are Sasuke doesn't have the rest of Taka (Suigetsu, Karin, and Jūgo) with him and they fight at the Forest of Quiet Movement (Evening) instead of the real location of Storm Cloud Ravine.
  • In Sunagakure, there is a shop called Karakuri Item Shop, most likely being named after Masashi Kishimoto's first manga series, Karakuri.
  • In the game’s story mode, the Eight Man Squad is not present while aiding in the search for Sasuke or Itachi.
  • In the game’s story mode, Deidara sacrifices himself just by gathering up chakra in his body, rather than use C0.
