Nean is the 46th episode of the 2nd season of Teen Titans Go!.
Synopsis
Raven is cursed to be nice by Trigon, while Starfire prepares to marry a pot of chili.
Why It Sucks
- The episode’s premise is completely stupid and got panned by audiences and critics due to it’s botched moral and the subplot, details will be explained below.
- The beginning just rehashes Meatball Party, just with vegan alternatives. Which was not funny the first time, just annoying. That joke does not warrant an encore.
- Annoyed, Raven barks at the other Titans and the subplot starts, Starfire takes Raven’s “advice” marry Beast Boy’s vegetarian chili. Which is unfunny and disgusting. (falling in love with food never works, look at how SpongeBob and Ren and Stimpy handled it)
- Fed up with Raven being “nean”, “being nice by being mean”, Trigon curses his daughter to be nice for the rest of the day.
- Robin’s jealousy over the chili is irrational because the chili is food will eventually rot, so, it’s temporary.
- Although funny, the “Raven Being Nice” montage is full of disgusting visuals like hot dogs so full of condiments, they’re leaking (it didn’t help that Raven vomited after eating said hotdog) and a grotesquely drawn baby that looks more like a miniature old man than a baby.
- Bad Moral: Be mean to people to correct behavior.
Redeeming Qualities
- Trigon did have a point, being mean to people is not a good idea.
- The moral does have some truth, as people can lie to someone else to prevent offending the other person. Like, lying you like the person’s clothing when in reality, you don’t.
- Without the disgusting visuals, the “Nice Raven” montage is pretty funny.
- Good Ending: Starfire ends up not marrying the chili because, she did not want to do it in the first place (then why did she agree to it?) and Beast Boy and Cyborg did not want to offend her. (Which also doesn’t make sense because when she left the room, they were happily talking about the wedding)
