Slimetastic Qualities

  1. The roster is a lot bigger than the 2018 prequel's roster. There are now 30 playable characters from 13 shows and franchises, which include The Loud House, CatDog, Danny Phantom, and a.
    • Additionally, the third instalment will have over 40 playable characters, and it will be a great touch!
  2. The pit crew system adds something new to the kart racing genre.
    • The chief gives you an ability that you can activate with a button after filling your Slime meter, while crew members give you abilities that recharge over time.
    • You have 70 members to choose from.
  3. The graphics and character models are much better-looking than in the previous game.
  4. The tracks are very well designed, and feature a lot of references to the shows they're based on. Four tracks from the prequel have also been remade for this game.
  5. The controls are much more responsive, and unlike the prequel, it is possible to perform tricks off of ramps, trampolines, and geysers.
  6. The soundtrack is very good, even more so than the prequel, and even includes remixes of a few of the represented shows' theme songs.
  7. A decent number of modes to choose from, including a Challenges mode.
  8. Online play, a feature that the prequel lacked, is included.
    • However, there still is the option for split-screen multiplayer, and unlike the prequel.
    • the Arena mode can be played with AI-controlled opponents.
  9. Some special items, known as Madness items, can be fun to use.
    • They are, as described by the game:
    • Toys for Everyone - Everyone shoots toy balls continuously! You also get a one-time shield that recharges with orange Slime. Don't lose your cover!
    • Don't Crash - Reach crazy speeds with a permanent boost! Pink Slime will let you drop obstacles behind for your opponents. Oh, and we forgot to mention... drivers that crash will immediately explode. Have fun!
    • Gnome Invasion - Huge lawn gnomes will be littering the track for everyone! You can get some purple Slime to boost yourself ahead. Just make sure the gnomes don't catch you!

Bad Qualities

  1. Just like the 2018 prequel, there is no voiced dialogue at all, not even from the representation of the real-life human being that is JoJo Siwa.
    • Thankfully, this issue will be resolved in the third game, where voice acting will be present.
  2. Some tracks are rather short, especially if you play on the Insane speed. Luckily, this is made up for by the option to change the number of laps in Free Race.
  3. Some of the items can get annoying at times, or cause you not to activate crew chief skills or can't see where you are going.
  4. In every version but the later-released PC version, there is no way to customize the buttons, and they are locked at having the right trigger to accelerate, which can be uncomfortable for some people who are too used to Mario Kart-style controls.

Reception

Nickelodeon Kart Racers 2: Grand Prix was met with better reviews than its prequel, with Metacritic scores of 58% for the PlayStation 4 version based on eight reviews, 69% for the Xbox One version based on seven reviews,[3] and 72% for the Nintendo Switch version based on nine reviews,[4] all indicating "mixed or average" reviews.

Sequel

A third game in the franchise, Nickelodeon Kart Racers 3: Slime Speedway, is expected to be released on Microsoft Windows, Nintendo Switch, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on October 14, 2022. Unlike the first two games in the series, there will be voice acting, which is a very welcoming addition, over 40 playable characters, and over 90 pit crew members will be included. It's possible that this game will be the most acclaimed release in the series.
