Nicktoons is an American television network that was launched on May 1, 2002, after the success of the Nicktoons block on Nickelodeon. The channel was targeted at airing classic cartoons or shows from Nickelodeon. Even though the network was praised during its heyday, the network went downhill when they started to air some terrible live-action, which is stupid since Nicktoons is supposed to be a cartoon channel and not both.

Why It Isn't A Boom

  1. The main problem with the channel nowadays is how it's (mostly) now used as a graveyard for Nickelodeon cartoons that don't receive SpongeBob SquarePants-level ratings (i.e. at least 2 million viewers per broadcast) to the point the cartoon would be led to air a few new episodes before getting canceled altogether. That shows Nickelodeon is too perfectionistic about TV ratings nowadays.
  2. For some strange reason, it tends to air live-action shows, which doesn't make sense since its sole purpose is to air animated shows, hence its name. Thankfully, this has gotten toned down since 2021, and as of June 2024, live-action shows have been wiped from Nicktoons completely.
  3. Many "failed" shows that originated on the main network have had new episodes premiere on Nicktoons. This includes shows like The Fairly OddParents, My Life as a Teenage Robot and El Tigre: The Adventures of Manny Rivera.
  4. The channel is too dependent on reruns. They don't care about anything besides The Loud House, The Patrick Star Show, Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years, SpongeBob SquarePants and The Casagrandes. Although this seems like variety, it's nothing but these shows on repeat. Sure The Twisted Timeline of Sammy & Raj and Rock Paper Scissors were added to the catalog in 2024, but neither air at all on the network anymore.
  5. The infamous July 2014 block. (Elaborate?)
  6. They have dropped most of its original programming and put some of them (even SpongeBob) into graveyard slots. They also started airing sports content with NickSports in 2014 and again currently such as the NFL Slimetime, another reason why its name contradicts itself. Isn't it called NickTOONS?
  7. The network used to have a block in 2021 called ToonTime airing specific shows every weeknight, and when they removed it, the only shows left were SpongeBob SquarePants, The Patrick Star Show, and Kamp Koral: SpongeBob's Under Years, showing that they don't care about variety.
  8. They are heavily dependent on airing the same commercials and bumpers from Nick but plaster their logo on them. The same goes for TeenNick.
    1. Eventually, starting January 1st, 2024, the current Nickelodeon bumpers ended up being Nicktoons' new bumpers, which is plain lazy.
  9. All the variety is very minor from the network. As mentioned on WIS #3, they used to heavily rerun The Fairly OddParents back when it still existed, and we mean heavily.
  10. Overall, this network is now a clone and a mixture of Nickelodeon and TeenNick.
  11. Much like what TeenNick did (and is still doing as of September 2024) with Henry Danger before The Dan Schneider incident, the network spams SpongeBob SquarePants 24/7, which is not surprising. Count how many days in a row the episode "Patchy the Pirate Presents the SpongeBob SquarePants Christmas Special" played during December.
    1. On December 25th, 2023, all it aired was the previously mentioned SpongeBob specials, "It's a SpongeBob Christmas", and "SpongeBob's Road to Christmas" for 24 HOURS STRAIGHT.
    2. As of early June 2024, the 24/7 SpongeBob spam is now permanent for the show's 25th anniversary. It's unknown if the schedule will go back to normal again (maybe never?). At the very least, they could have aired The Patrick Star Show and Kamp Koral alongside SpongeBob, but we didn't get that now did we?
    3. The SpongeBob spam on Nicktoons made its non-SpongeBob shows move to TeenNick for reruns from May to August 2024, such as The Loud House and its spin-off The Really Loud House, Rock Paper Scissors, and The Fairly OddParents: A New Wish, before TeenNick changed back to being a channel with only The Loud House and Henry Danger reruns in August, making Nicktoons a complete joke nowadays.
  12. The 2024-present era of the channel can be considered the worst of all time. Not only did the great 2014 bumpers gone without a trace, but the new bumpers are just Nickelodeon's bumpers but with Nicktoons' logo plastered on it. We do NOT talk about the "Non-Stop SpongeBob All Day Every Day" event. This killed Nicktoons for the rest of it's broadcasting and now the channel has no chances to catch up anymore due to this permanent event. Emphasis on "Every Day", mind you.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. The network was good before 2014.
  2. Even if the network has gone downhill, they at least used to occasionally air classic shows on holidays like Christmas, such as Catscratch and The X's.
  3. Their bumpers from 2014 to 2024 were epic and creative.
  4. Thankfully, the network returned to air original programming with The Twisted Timeline of Sammy & Raj in 2024, it's a miracle that this aired in the USA despite only aired for a few months before getting pulled.
