Ninjala is a 2020 free-to-play action game released for the Nintendo Switch. It was developed by Soleil Ltd. and published by GungHo Online Entertainment. There is a short-lived anime web series called Ninjala 2D Cartoon Anime based on the game.
Ippon Qualities
- Excellent and entertaining gameplay inspired by Splatoon and traditional ninjutsu.
- The concept of ninjas gaining power from chewing bubblegum is very interesting.
- Great lore in the game, with cute and likeable characters such as Van, Lucy, Emma and Kappei and the WNA team Burton, Ron, Berecca and Jane.
- It's also funny how the adults turn into children after chewing the gum.
- The mechanisms when striking an Ippon are really fun and entertaining to practice.
- When you are waiting, you can strike against a dummy Van.
- A very wide range of weapons to choose from, including yoyos such as the Trick Ball, swords such as the Ippon Katana, bare hands such as the Paw-xing Gloves and hammers such as the SK8 Hammer.
- The theme song, a house remix of Ninja Re Bang Bang by Kyary Pamyu Pamyu and Steve Aoki is really amazing and upbeat to listen to.
- Gumchi and Goro are very adorable characters.
Bad Qualities
- Parrying can be difficult to do when in battle.
- In older builds of the game, you couldn't play with players from other regions as it was region locked. However, this was removed in an update from August 7, 2020.
- Sometimes, the game can get some glitches here and there which can be noticeable at times, especially in bad internet connections.
- Each chapter, even the first, in Story Mode is locked behind a paywall, which can be pretty frustrating considering that it's somewhat a quality-of-life feature instead of being purely cosmetic.
Trivia
- The game was originally going to be released on May 27th 2020, but got delayed to June 24th 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Ninjala also has done crossovers with other franchises, such as Sonic the Hedgehog, Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba, and GungHo's own mobile game Puzzle & Dragons.
- The name of the title derives from the character from ARMS, Ninjara.
