Nu, Pogodi! Vypusk 1. Pogonya (Ну, погоди! Выпуск 1. Погоня; known in Poland as Wilk i Zając: Nu Pogodi) is beat 'em up video game developed by Alexander Efremov, K-D Lab and Treasure for Microsoft Windows, released in April 5, 2002 by 1C Company for Russian market and in 2004 by Cenega for Polish market. It is based on Well, Just You Wait! (Ну, погоди!). It was re-released in December 30, 2022 for Google Drive and renamed The Powered Wolf: Beat THEM! in June 30, 2024 for Yandex Disk.

Plot

2002 version

We see a movie theater and Hare, who, frightened by Wolf, ran away. Wolf stopped and, looking in the other direction, ran to the Soyuzmultfilm studio. He altered one of the film strips and inserted it into the camera. And we begin the game.

2022 and Beat THEM! versions

The new versions have altered order of cartoon episodes, of which they sre based on.

Bad Qualities

  1. Terrible controls.
  2. Poor platform detection.
  3. Hard difficulty on normal and hard modes, where the damage is bigger.
  4. Wolf doesn't have mercy invincibility, which leads to cheap deaths.
  5. Only three lives on each mode.
  6. Some enemies attack before Wolf does.
  7. Jumping over or going around a device with exposed wires costs some health.
  8. Health bonus gives little health.
  9. The game can be beated on easy mode for more than half an hour.

2002 version

  1. The cutscenes were not animated by Treasure or Soyuzmultfilm and look as horrid as Zelda CD-i games.
  2. The cutscenes are automatically skipped, while running on Windows 8 or later.
  3. Treasure wasn't credited for some reason.

2022 version

  1. It wasn't published on Steam or GOG.com.

Beat THEM! version

  1. It wasn't published on Steam or GOG.com as well, but the publisher will soon publish Beat THEM! version on the latter, but not the former.
  2. Despite the rename, it's the same game.
  3. The level names from the 2022 version were removed.

Good Qualities

  1. The soundtrack is OK.
  2. The in-game graphics are good.

2022 version

  1. It contains excerpts from the cartoon as the cutscenes.
  2. Level have their names.

Beat THEM!

  1. Extended excerpts.
  2. It has tutorial text file named "READMEPLEASE".
  3. Complete episodes of the cartoon from the pilot to the tenth were added as bonus features.

Reception

AG.ru rated the game 40 of 100.

Tips

  1. In fifth level, the finish stays the same way as the start, so you can throw twenty rocks to the the rhino that stays close to the finish.
  2. To beat the normal and hard modes, pause and unpause the game after you stared it and lose all your lives while not collecting anything or beating anyone. Select the resume button after losing lives and the game will continue with lives being unlimited.

Trivia

  1. There are rumors that Astro Boy: Omega Factor destroyed Well, Just You Wait! (Ну, погоди!) in December 17, 2021, because Nu, Pogodi! Vypusk 1. Pogonya was released in 2002, a year before Omega Factor. Both games were Treasure's works.
  2. The nowadays publisher, MasterOfRemakes Interactive, plans to release the Beat THEM! version on GOG.com and gram.pl and remake it for the Nintendo Switch and Google Play.
  3. There is another game - The Powered Wolf: Quest Away, which was Nu, Pogodi! Vypusk 3. Pesnya dlya Zaytsa (Ну, погоди! Выпуск 3. Песня для Зайца; Wilk i Zając 2: Nu Pogodi in Poland), which was released a week before Astro Boy: Omega Factor. Quest Away was released at the same time as Beat THEM!, in June 30, 2024 for Yandex Disk.
