Oggy Manga Star is the fifty-seventh episode of season 5 and the 327th episode overall of Oggy and the Cockroaches. It takes place in Ancient Japan. The episode was only on Netflix until it was posted on YouTube by the official Oggy channel.
Plot
Oggy is assistant to Hokusai, the famous artist. Bored with his life, Oggy compensates by drawing Mangas, portraying himself as a fantastic Samurai, talented artist, Olivia’s true love, and dreaded Arch Enemy to the nasty Ninja cockroaches...
スターにはなれない悪い性質 (Bad Qualities that are no Star)
- This concept of this episode is just weird. It involves Oggy and the Cockroaches as humans. Almost none of them look like their counterparts (save for Oggy, who actually just looks like a poor man's version of Naruto and Oggy combined) and Olivia just looks like an actual woman.
- At the beginning of the episode, it shows Oggy's boss painting 2 wavy lines but then tears the page up and gets a new paper. This joke constantly goes on for 2 minutes.
- During one of the manga segments, Oggy and Olivia come across a painting and somehow the painting shines, and then all of a sudden, the cockroaches appear. This scene is nonsensical because if a painting shines, and then the cockroaches appear.
- On that scene, right when they were about to fight, it switches to the roaches' style of manga (which looks nothing like actual manga) and Oggy realizes that the drawing skills went low on budget. This also makes no sense, because was he even paying attention while the roaches stole his manga?
- The anime art style looks nothing like anime. It looks as if Man of Action (creators of the Ben 10 franchise) did all the work.
スターとなる良い資質 (Good Qualities that are the Star)
- Okay Ending: Just as Oggy's boss thinks that his painting went great with the cockroaches surfing along with it, Oggy hangs it up on the wall in the museum when the cockroaches (while stuck inside the canvas) began to scream in agony before the iris wipe closes between the roaches. (Well, sort of...)
- The episode can still be entertaining to watch.
- Aside from the manga segments, the animation and music are still passable.
