Ojamajo Doremi Dokkan: Nijiiro Paradise is a 2002 party video game developed and published by Bandai for the PlayStation. It is based on the anime of the same name, which was localized as Magical DoReMi outside of Japan.

Plot

After they come across a Rain Flower Drop, Doremi and friends find out they must collect passion in the form of Crystals in order to grow the Rainbow Drop.

Soon, everyone becomes involved in order to collect the mystical objects and learn about having fun along the way.

Why It's Doesn't Learn About Having Fun

  1. The music is MIDI files played through Microsoft GS Wavetable SW Synth. Not only that, but the soundtrack is also bland; even some other PS1 games, such as Doraemon: Nobita to Fukkatsu no Hoshi doesn't have MIDI files, making it good.
    • Not only that, but you can literally forget the music in only 30 minutes or even forgot that the music plays, making the soundtrack from this game extremely forgettable.
    • The music is also very generic, most notably the music that plays when you are on a board.
  2. It was too late to be released on the PS1 in 2002, as the PS2 had already been out for a while at the time. This might also be one of the reasons why this game wasn't localized outside of Japan, even if the series was obscure at the time.
  3. While the graphics are not bad, they can be subpar for some scenes and backgrounds, even most of the previous Ojamajo Doremi games on the PS1, such as Ojamajo Doremi Dokkan: Maho-dou Eigo Festival have better graphics than this game.
  4. The game is pretty short for a PS1 game, lasting only 3 hours 25 minutes or even only 2 hours 20 minutes, which is unacceptable considering that the Mario Party trilogy on Nintendo 64 has a longer length than this game.
  5. The cutscenes are pretty bad, as they're barely, if ever, animated like the TV show, and they are mostly just images, which is unacceptable considering that Doraemon 3: Makai no Dongeon, which was also released on PS1 in 2000, has some animated cutscenes along with its predecessor. Not only that, but again, that game was released 2 years before this one.
  6. The story is quite poor, as Doremi and her friends have to find some crystals in order to grow the Rainbow Drop. Yes, that's it. It's the entire story of the game; even for a party game, it is pretty generic.
  7. Due to the game being Japan-only and being fairly obscure, it is really hard to find videos of gameplay or, even worse, longplays. The only video that shows the entire game is a speedrun of the game, and a longplay has yet to surface on the platform.
  8. Really boring gameplay that is basically Mario Party, but much worse than these games, making this game a rip-off of Mario Party.
  9. Really generic ending, as it's just some pictures of the characters from the show (mainly Doremi) and it goes straight to the credits, while it's not as bad as the ending from Superman 64, it is still a pretty bad ending and is absolutely not rewarding.
  10. The cutscenes also have awful image quality for the characters, even for a PS1 game.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Some of the sprites are decent, despite the graphics being subpar.
    • Likewise, the graphics aren't bad but not the best 2D that the PlayStation could be done due to the graphics being subpar.
  2. Some of the music is decent, despite the soundtrack being somewhat bland and generic.
  3. The voice acting is nice, as it feels like the voice acting from the Japanese version of the show.
  4. Making a game based on Ojamajo Doremi was not a bad concept, but this game unfortunately hasn't had great execution.
    • Despite that, at least the game isn't as boring as another party game based on Doraemon, which that game was called Doraemon: Dokodemo Walker, because that game was even more boring and had barely any good things beside the graphics.
  5. Nice and cute box art, as it's faithful to the series of the same name and it's look like that it's came straight from the show.

Trivia

  • Pop is seen in a dog form and a ninja outfit in this game. She was never seen with these forms in the anime.

Reception

The game wasn't that well reviewed in the Japanese websites, it also got a rating of 2.88 on GameFAQs from 4 users.
