"Papa, Fireworks, and Tearful Memories" is episode 43 of Ojamajo Doremi.
Plot
Tamaki always thought she had a good bond with her Father, but after trying to prove her classmates wrong, she runs away from home after he fails to respond the way she had hoped.
Why It Rocks
- The episode show that Tamaki is not actually always a brat and isn't always unlikable as seen in this episode, as she does worry that her dad doesn't love her, even though it may appear as a torture episode for her, it still a pretty good episode with a great moral.
- In fact she is at her best in this episode as she isn't as much as a brat like in other episodes and is actually likable for real this time, when in other time she was unlikable but in a good way.
- A lot of emotional moments are present in this episode, such as when Tamaki dad slap her in her face when she was 4 and that the latter said that she hate her dad with him excusing for what he did, or even the ending (see below).
- The flashback scenes where Tamaki is only 4 years old aside from being emotional are also great since it show her past, even though we doesn't know everything about her past along with her parents.
- Amazing soundtrack as usual, here the soundtrack is just as fitting as for other episodes, and it fit the emotional moments.
- Aside from Tamaki, other characters are still likable as always such as Doremi, Hazuki and Aiko, and even Onpu despite telling Tamaki that her dad probably doesn't love her because of never scolding her.
- The episode had a good moral that you should not always never scolding your childrens as if they ever learn that you actually doesn't love your kid, then you might regret forever and it show that at times you can't let something pass, as seen in the ending.
- Great animation as usual, especially the transformation scenes and the ending.
- Amazing Ending: Tamaki stop hating her dad and they both are in great relationship again, and the slap that Tamaki dad did give was the reason that she stopped doing those troubles.
Bad Qualities
- As usual, the 4Kids dub of this episode is horrible and here it is even worse because the moral of the episode was completely cut because the slap scenes are cut, meaning that the episode isn't even worth watching in the 4Kids dub.
- Tamaki, while not unlikable, she can still be unlikable and could be seen as a jerk to her dad, howewer it may not be intentional because she was lost with her dad feeling.
- Plot Hole: It is unknow how everyone and especially Seki was aware of Tamaki running away, even though it may probably be Tamaki dad that did tell Seki.
Reception
The episode was positively received by fans and critics for it's great moral and the fact that it actually show Tamaki without being an actual brat.
Trivia
- This is one of the only episode that focus almost entirely on Tamaki.
- This episode is one of the only times during season 1 where the girls are dressed in alternate attire while casting magic.
