Plane to Sea is a episode from Season 13 of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Plot

Squidward wins a trip to Bora Bora Bottom, however he has to bring SpongeBob and Patrick along.

Why It Ran Out of Gas

  1. For starters, this is another in a long-lasting series of pointless episodes where Squidward winds up on the really short end of the stick because SpongeBob and Patrick take advantage of him for no reason.
    • Also, the song Bad Neighbors Blues talks about how he gets tortured a lot.
  2. Not helping is the fact that the episode insultingly rips off multiple past episodes:
    • Most notably Smooth Jazz at Bikini Bottom, which also has Squidward going to a unique location only to have it sabotaged by SpongeBob and Patrick's annoying behavior.
    • Boating Buddies, which has the entire universe irrationally turning on Squidward.
    • Good Neighbors, which also has SpongeBob and Patrick ruthlessly stalking Squidward and being seen as the heroes for doing so.
    • Cephalopod Lodge, which also takes elements from Good Neighbors and punishes Squidward for having to deal with his neighbor's antics.
    • The endings of Good Ol' Whatshisname and Nautical Novice, which are recycled into the ending as said in WIROOGAHAPC #7.
  3. SpongeBob and Patrick are unlikable as they try to sabotage Squidward's trip to Bora Bora Island and idiotically think he's their dad, despite the two of them having parents.
    • Patrick sat on Squidward’s legs and blames him for taking the seat, despite him being there first and SpongeBob then bumped into Squidward.
    • The two got out of their seats and tied Squidward with their seatbelts and started fooling around.
    • Both SpongeBob and Patrick threw a bunch of items off the snack cart without repercussions, along with stuffing Squidward into the snack cart.
    • Patrick and SpongeBob beat up Squidward pretty badly when putting their seatbelts on.
    • Patrick got the flight attendant sucked out as using the aircraft door, which is a stupid move for Patrick and later he sends two flight attendants out the emergency exit door thinking it was the bathroom that could’ve of killed them and worse of all, they don’t have parachutes on.
    • They snuck into Squidward's mail and found out he was going to Bora Bora Bottom.
    • They nearly got Squidward killed by almost crashing the plane.
  4. The little kid who’s the other flight attendant is unlikable as well, because she gave Squidward a bruise by smacking him with a wand and mentally abusing him for doing nothing.
    • The flight attendant is no better as she threatens to punch him and injures him by pulling the seat down, despite SpongeBob and Patrick beating him up, the girl hitting him, and SpongeBob and Patrick causing trouble in the airplane.
  5. The humor can be either unfunny, creepy, or just gross such as the scene where Patrick gets a coffee maker stuck in Squidward’s head and the scene where SpongeBob and Patrick spit out Squidward’s mail.
  6. Everyone who tortured Squidward doesn't get their comeuppance.
  7. Terrible ending: When SpongeBob and Patrick press random buttons, they eventually make it to Bora Bora Bottom, until SpongeBob revealed the plane was in autopilot mode the whole time saying that the plane takes him back to the Bikini Bottom in 24 hours. It was also revealed that the trip was to "see Bora Bora Bottom" and not to actually be there, which frustrates Squidward and adds insult to injury.
  8. Unusual and unexpected dialogue like Patrick saying (no joke) kill.
  9. This episode teaches kids several bad morals.
    • It teaches people how you should bother someone without stopping.
    • It teaches kids how it’s ok to physically beat up someone.
    • It teaches kids it’s fine to push people out of a door, despite killing the person.
  10. The episode only seems to exist. so the Danny Giovannini could mock fans who have been criticizing the show for relentlessly making torture episodes with Squidward as the victim. Given that this episode is the umpteenth time the writers decide to torment Squidward, it shows that the Danny Giovannini are refusing to listen to the criticism.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Squidward was likable for the most part.
  2. Some funny moments like Patrick repeatedly opening the emergency exit, expect for the scene where he stupidly pushes the flight attendant out.
  3. This episode has potential as it focuses on planes, but it got poorly executed.
  4. The titlecard is nice to look at, as per usual, it also bares a resemblance to "Pizza Delivery".

Reception

Plane to Sea received mostly negative reviews by fans and critics alike, although it scored a 6.8/10 on IMDb due to the fact it was paired with Captain Pipsqueak, which was more well received.[1]
