Polskie Derby (English: Polish Derbs) is a racing game developed by Onimedia and published by IncaGold on February 14, 2004 for Microsoft Windows only in Poland.
Gameplay
In Polskie Derby, players take control of one of the five old Eastern Europe cars. In each race the player races against computer opponent. The game screen shows a map with current position and meters between both cars. The collision with other vehicles cause damage that may result in exclusion from the race.
Why Its Vehicle Got Destroyed
- The main menu feels empty and looks as if it was done in only 18 minutes; you can change the graphics quality (which doesn't even do anything to begin with), turn the music off or on, change the controls from keyboard to mouse and vice versa, and change the difficulty.
- Unbalanced A.I. that cries out for vengeance; your opponent is much faster and they go so fast, you're unable to catch them, even on the easy difficulty with the fastest car. However, the opponent has a weird hybrid of crashing into various vehicles and cannot even turn in the slightest to avoid it. It doesn't just happen once, as it happens all the time. Basically, if the opponent sees a vehicle, he instantly charges into it.
- The game in general feels like nothing but a cheap reskin of Midnight Racing (Hot Wired in the US release) with changed vehicles, which in turn is a red flag due to how bad Midnight Racing (Hot Wired in the US release) is. In addition, all of the 30 tracks were straight up recycled from the same game, which is nothing but complete laziness.
- Absolutely horrible graphics that look like something from a Nintendo 64 game from 1997; the vegetation looks like it was ripped from a large carton of juice, the road looks like it was doused with septic tanks, and the cars are incredibly angular.
- The audio is one of the things that sucks; the engine sounds like a muffled lawnmower, the sounds of impacts resemble crushing a can, and the music sounds pretty boring, with the "yeeeeah" moaning sounding like it was provided by someone who was bored and wanted to do something better than provide his voice clip for the game.
- An abysmal amount of stability issues that make the amount of bugs and glitches in pre-2022 versions of Cyberpunk 2077 look amazing in comparison; there is an extremely noticeable evidence that just shows how broken this production is; if you want to play more than three levels at a time, the game throws a middle finger at you and crashes, and the game can also easily crash if you want to minimize the game and then return to it. It's like the game itself knows how bad it is and doesn't want you to play it anymore with these crashes. And regardless of your PC or the type of your operating system.
- Some other bugs exist, such as sometimes an invisible wall appearing on the road, making it impossible to finish a race until you reset.
- Atrocious controls that make the controls in GP vs. SuperBike look responsive in comparison; your vehicle moves like a box smeared with butter on an ice rink, they are almost unable to take turns and are so grippy that they can easily drive on even the most crooked surfaces.
- The physics are a complete failure; your vehicle feels like it was completely glued to the road with a superglue to the point that even a jump at the highest speed from the farthest part of the road does not give the expected result, and instead the car looks like it jumped instead of went flying a bit. In addition, your vehicles bounce around like a balloon if they hit something.
- Inconsistent durability; if you hit an opponent hard in the back, your vehicle will still survive and will allow you to drive still, but a drive between two cars ends worse than a finale in a scrapyard by completely trashing your car and forcing you to restart the race.
- Only five cars to choose from, only slightly larger in terms of amount than the four trucks in Big Rigs: Over the Road Racing. The cars are the Syrenka, an uglier Syrenka, the Warszawka, the Trabant, and the Syrenka GT. In addition, the specifications are something that you shouldn't be fooled by, as the cars drive identically.
Redeeming Qualities
- The cover looks appealing, especially since it has old cars on the cover that look like they're from the 1960s.
- You get a good chunk of camera angles and nice transitions when you change them. Said angles aren't too bad.
