Popeye's Pappy is Famous Studios's color remake of Popeye's quest for Poopdeck Pappy as seen in 1938's Goonland but with the antagonists as African-American natives instead of Goons. It was released in 1952 as the 185th Popeye cartoon.

Bad Qualities
- While not as much as other shorts such as "Goin' to Heaven on a Mule", "The Censored Eleven", "Tokio Jokio", "Bugs Bunny Nips the Nips", "Which Is Witch", "His Mouse Friday", "Scrub Me Mama with a Boogie Beat", etc., this short is still offensive due to how it portrays African-American natives as the antagonists.
- As mentioned before, the short is a watered-down color copy of Goonland but with African-American natives in the Goons' place.
- Pappy is extremely unlikable in this short since he tries to kill Popeye numerous times, unlike what he does in the comics or the Fleischer Studios cartoons. Even in "Goonland", Pappy is nowhere near as unlikable as in this short.
- Some disturbing scenes involving animal cruelty such as Popeye killing a snake by blowing smoke into its mouth which comes out the snake's tail and Popeye turning a crocodile into luggage.
- The pacing is slow most of the time.
- The ending where Popeye and Pappy defeat the native tribe could easily offend some viewers.
Good Qualities
- Good voice acting by Jack Mercer.
- Popeye is a likable character, as with most of his other shorts.
- Pappy did redeem himself at the end and saved Popeye.
- Decent animation for its time.
- Passable musical score.
