Power Rangers Dino Fury is a live-action action-adventure superhero family television series, that was created by Haim Saban, and the Toei Company, Ltd. It first aired on February 20, 2021 and is based off of the 43rd Super Sentai series, Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger, it serves as the follow-up sequel to Power Rangers Beast Morphers, is both the third and fourth installments in the Hasbro-era of the Power Rangers series and is overall both the 28th and 29th seasons of the Power Rangers series, serving as an adaptation to the 43rd Super Sentai series, Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger. The series is Hasbro's second production, under their film division, Allspark Pictures & Entertainment One, following their acquisition of the franchise.
Plot
When an army of powerful alien beings are unleashed on Earth, threatening life as we know it, a brand-new team of Power Rangers, fueled by the prehistoric power of the dinosaurs, are recruited to deal with the threat.
Furious Qualities
- Despite the franchise looking like it was going to get better, this show feels like a MASSIVE downgrade from Power Rangers Beast Morphers.
- The show barely utilizes any of the unique assets that are presented from its Japanese counterpart, making it feel like they could've adapted from any other Sentai with nothing about it feeling different.
- Going off that point, that also means the show has almost nothing to do with dinosaurs and knights, only going for the generic sci-fi fantasy genre Power Rangers did loads of times, similarly to Power Rangers Ninja Steel and its sequel Super Ninja Steel.
- The acting from everyone in this show is very one-note, making everything that happens feel very lifeless and unenergetic almost as if anyone who was working on the show didn't want to be there.
- Ollie Akana/Dino Fury Blue might be the worst offender of this as he can also act very rude to most of the other characters, including Amelia Jones/Pink Ranger most of the time for no reason, tho he does redeem himself later on in the show.
- Izzy Garcia/Dino Fury Green and Javi Garcia/Dino Fury Black don't feel like they serve much of a purpose in the show, making them very forgettable, except for one thing we'll get to later.
- While not necessarily a bad thing, Izzy ripping off her skirt as Dino Fury Green, which might have been done because her Japanese counterpart, "Towa", was male, was played out a little too seriously and could be considered exploitive, especially considering there were past female rangers, whose Japanese counterparts were male and not having skirts.
- The supporting characters were no better. Jane Fairview and J-Borg Buzzfeed are generic employees and essentially knock-offs of Bulk and Skull from the original Mighty Morphing Power Rangers, who act like unfunny comic reliefs, and Warden Garcia, who's also a generic jerky character, who deep down, has a good heart.
- The audio in this season might be some of the worst in Power Rangers as the dubbing is very inconsistent with some characters sounding very quiet, and then randomly loud. Not to mention that all the music are different loops of electronic rock that's toned down like crazy.
- Most of the villains sound very annoying and also play for comic relief.
- In season 1 of the Power Rangers Dino Fury series, while it was nice seeing Lord Zedd return, he only shows up in one episode, "Old Foes" and is absent for the rest of the first half of the season; he does come back in the second season as the main villain for three episodes however, which is nice.
- It rehashes a lot of elements from Power Rangers Mystic Force, both the fourth installment of the Disney-Era of the Power Rangers series and the fourteenth installment of the Power Rangers series as a whole, which first air exactly fifteen years ago, as not only does Void Knight serve the same role as Koragg (both are the fathers of the respective Rangers), but Solon(who... ironically, is voice by the same actress who also voices Itassis, another character from Power Rangers Mystic Force) is also the same as Jenji (both are non-human allies of the Rangers), and many of the characters in this show are mostly clones of those who were in Mystic Force, with Jane Fairview being a female version of Toby Slambrook (both own a building that the Rangers spend their free time at), and the Void Family themselves seem to have numerous similarities with the Morlocks of Mystic Force, such as Morticon and Boomtower being the big brute-types that serves as the Major Antagonists of the first third one-third of the show, Imperious and Slyther serving as the mage of the group, and(to a slight degree) with both The Master and Void Queen serving as the true antagonists of their own shows.
- Even the main Monsters-Of-The-Week, the Sporixs, are the same as the main Monsters-Of-The-Weeks of Mystic Force, with Smashstone being the same as the Rock Troll (both are rock troll-themed monsters), Roostafa being a clone of Clawbster (both monsters are themed after a cockatrice), and Spider Sketch Monster being a clone of Spydex (in that they are both spider-themed monsters), and also Wolfgang being a clone of Fightoe as it is a mythological creature based on a wolf, and some other examples like the Shockhorn being a clone of Warmax (both have a sword as their main weapon) and Nemesis Beast being a clone of Chimera (both are chimera-themed monsters and also serves as the final Monsters-Of-The-Week).
- Not to mention that Aiyon is the same as Daggeron, in that not only are they are both the sixth Ranger that are Gold, but both are also non-human Rangers, whereas with the latter, Daggeron is an Ancient Mystic, with Aiyon, he is a Rafkonian.
- There are even some Ranger Forms lazily reused from Mystic Force, such as the Smash Dino Key being the same thing as the Mystic Force Fighters, and the Dino Knight Morpher being the same as the Red Dragon Fire Ranger.
- This could likely be because Power Rangers Dino Fury started development during the time that Power Rangers Beast Morphers was being created and they didn't have any time for planning out the show properly or fleshing out any potential concept, since some elements of this show feel very tacked-on like the characters, and the Ranger Gear(which were made into separate new gear from their original counterparts), and considering the lack of new ideas and some aspects of this show feeling somewhat lazy, it's pretty clear that there wasn't enough time for Haim Saban and the Toei Company, Ltd to give Power Rangers Dino Fury more originality, and since this show was also being made during the COVID-19 Pandemic, it perfectly explains the missed potential they have and how they should've started development way earlier and given more time to plan out new concepts and implement more creativity to make a good product, which sadly didn't happen, making this case rather unfortunate at best.
- Unfortunately, according to Simon Bennett, it will not get to team up with Power Rangers Beast Morphers due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
- Some meteoric and/or poor episodes.
- To finish off with rubbing salt on an open wound, its Sentai counterpart, Kishiryu Sentai Ryusoulger, despite being better, was also very bland, meaning fans who wanted a Dinosaur/Knight themed Ranger team were led to disappointment.
Good Qualities
- This show did a very good job with minority representation, with Izzy being the first LGBTQ+ ranger in show, and Aiyon being our first African American Sixth Ranger.
- The soundtrack is well-made.
- There are still some likable characters, such as Zayto/Dino Fury Red, Amelia Jones/Dino Fury Pink, Aiyon/Dino Fury Gold, and Void Knight.
- The action scenes are still exelent.
- There's still a decent selection of great-to-awesome episodes.
- Despite the audio quality of this season, it fortunately doesn’t rehash much of the “Go Go Power Rangers” music as the Neo-Saban seasons and Power Rangers Beast Morphers.
- There are some touching and emotional scenes in this show, such as Amelia finding out that Terrick and Santaura is her real parents.
- It was great to see those likable characters had come back, such as Lord Zedd, after 23 years in the Power Rangers in Space series finale episode "Countdown to Destruction", and Mick Kanic, after 3 years in the Power Rangers (Super) Ninja Steel series finale "Reaching the Nexus".
- Much like Power Rangers Operation Overdrive, its four-part series finale is fantastic as not only ends on a high note, but it also sets up the events of Power Rangers Cosmic Fury pretty well.
Trivia
- This was the last Power Rangers season to air on Nickelodeon. Starting with Dino Fury's second season (2022), Power Rangers will be airing new episodes on Netflix.
