Power Rangers Dino Thunder is a 2004 action-adventure video game based on the television series of the same name, adapted from Bakuryū Sentai Abaranger. The game was developed by Natsume Co., Ltd. and Pacific Coast Power & Light and published by THQ for the Game Boy Advance, GameCube, and PlayStation 2.

This page will only focus on the GameCube and PS2 versions

Gameplay

The three rangers fight enemies while meeting goals, such as finding ten frozen humans. Black Ranger solves puzzles to free captured Zords. And Megazord battles occur whenever an enemy enlarges to giant size. Megazord levels allow you to customize the Thundersaurus Megazord with weapons formed from other Dino Zords you free in puzzle levels.

Why It Doesn't Power Up

  1. The voice acting is extremely terrible, as none of the original voice actors reprised their roles. For example, Tommy, Ethan and Conner are clearly voiced by the same dude
  2. "Power Rangers" in name only, as in this game you can only play as their Zords. You can't play as any of the Rangers outside of their Zords. The game should have been called "Power Zords" or "Zord Rangers". What is the point of playing a Power Rangers game if you can't play as the rangers themselves.
  3. The game is just a shallow ripoff of Godzilla games, right down to the gameplay and even the graphics, and it doesn't even feel like a Power Rangers game.
  4. Barely any gameplay variety. The only styles of levels are flying through rings, collecting items and destroying stuff.
  5. Bland and generic soundtrack. Heck, the Dino Thunder theme isn't even in the game, despite other Power Rangers games having the theme songs, such as Mighty Morphin Power Rangers on SNES, Hyakuju Sentai Gaoranger on PS1, Power Rangers Samurai on Wii, Power Rangers Lightspeed Rescue on N64 and even Power Rangers Time Force on GBA.
  6. The game is extremely easy and not very challenging, not helping is the enemies AL being absolutely terrible and not challenging.
  7. The gameplay itself is extremely repetitive and gets old and boring real fast, this is also probably the reason of why this game is this short.
  8. The Megazord boss battles are extremely underwhelming. All you do is blast at the enemy and you win.
  9. The Tricerazord is the worst zord in the game. You can't jump and it's incredibly unfun to play as.
  10. Very short, you could beat the game under 2 hours, not helping is that there isn't any replay values at all.
  11. Generic title screen with very little excitement.
  12. Generic environments that look nothing like the TV show, even thiugh despite that, the graphics are still good for it's time.
  13. Despite the game being simple, the first level bombards you with loads of unnessecary textboxes.

Morpinominal Qualities

  1. The GBA version is just a decent simple side-scrolling beat-em-up. You actually get to play as the Rangers in this one. The game also has better gameplay, some minigames sprinkled in and there are no Zord sections, just the Megazord fight at the end of each level.
  2. The graphics look good and do capture the style of the show, it also look pretty good for it's time.
  3. The box art is nice to look at, as the Rangers are hand drawn rather than just being pictures of the suited actors (like Power Rangers Samurai on Wii, both 3DS Power Rangers Megaforce games, the PS1 Super Sentai games and Time Force on PS1)
  4. The controls are ok, despite being a little stiff.
  5. You can unlock the Ninja Storm and Wild Force Zords.
  6. Younger players and Power Rangers fans may enjoy the game.
  7. To the game's credit, it is at least playable, and still better than some of the worst Power Rangers game such as this one.
  8. It certainly isn't the worst Power Rangers game ever made

Reception

On Metacritic, each version of Power Rangers Dino Thunder has a 49 percent score, indicating "Generally unfavorable reviews".
