User Rights are groups that can be assigned to users. They include staff rights (further described here), but this page focuses on non-staff rights. Full details of rights are available in the special page Special:ListGroupRights.

* (Unregistered users)

Users who are not logged in. Due to IP abuse, they can only read, but not edit, pages.

User

Users without any particular rights or roles. You start at this when you first register. Registered users can edit pages, set user preferences, and have a dedicated identity to build.

Autoconfirmed & confirmed

Autoconfirmed users can skip captcha and have access to various extra tools when it's clear they are no longer spammers (have been a registered for long enough and have made enough edits). If you are a legitimate user who doesn't edit often, you can request confirmed at the Staff noticeboard.

Bots

Bots are special users who are, well, bots, and authorized to do specific things. Generally something only technical admins worry about.

Autopatrolled

Autopatrolled is an advanced confirmation given to users who do some or all of the following:

  • Make strong pages
  • Consistently improve the content and grammar of pages
  • Help the wiki's organization
  • Make consistent and useful commentary
  • Follow the rules to a high standard
  • Suggest or create useful features for the wiki (templates, styling, etc)

They are expected to have a strong grasp of English, avoid poor content, keep up with how things are supposed to be and are receptive to feedback including disagreement or criticism. Warnings, immaturity or failure to follow the rules may cause someone to lose autopatrolled or never get it. Autopatrolled cannot be requested. It is given at Admin discretion.
