Rick and Morty: The Anime is an animated science fiction sitcom series created and developed by Takashi Sano and produced by Studio Deen, Sola Entertainment, and Telecom Animation Film for Adult Swim. The third series in the franchise, based on the animated series of the same name by Justin Roiland and Dan Harmon, set between the fifth and sixth seasons of the main series, it stars Yōhei Tadano as Rick Sanchez and Keisuke Chiba as Morty Smith, reprising their roles from the Japanese dub of the original series. None of the cast of the English version of the original series reprise their roles for its English dub.
The series premiered on August 16, 2024, following five short films released from March 29, 2020, to November 12, 2021.

- For starters, while the idea of making an anime of Rick and Morty isn't a terrible idea, the problem is that not only is it barely faithful to the original series, but the execution is also abysmal.
- Even the Rick and Morty season 5 episode "Rickmurai Jack" and Malec's YouTube parody of Rick and Morty, "IF RICK AND MORTY WAS AN ANIME", managed to capture the same charm while also having impressive animation and backgrounds that is more effective than the actual series.
- The animation from Telecom Animation Film is shockingly atrocious and is a massive and impressive downgrade from the original series, looking like it was done in MS Paint, GIMP, or FlipaClip, it also looks like a bad anime released in the 1970s, despite being released in 2024.
- Similar to various media such as The Smurfs duology, the 2016 reboot of The Powerpuff Girls, the 2019 version of The Lion King, Blue's Clues & You!, Scoob!, Velma, My Little Pony: The Movie, The Super Mario Bros. Movie, and Megamind vs. the Doom Syndicate, none of the voice actors and actresses such as Ian Cardoni, Harry Belden, Chris Parnell, Spencer Grammer, Sarah Chalke, and others reprising their roles from the original series are returned in the English dub, the crew of Sentai Studios hires all voices, and it's trying too hard to imitate from the original. The worst offender is Joe Daniels, as he did a poor job voicing Rick Sanchez, who sounds like Donald Trump making a bad voice impression of the character.
- This can be excused as the show is likely set in a standalone continuity.
- The art style doesn't look like anime; it instead seems like a poorly drawn animated series. While the characters' designs are more detailed, they don't look as charming as the original series, and due to how bad the animation is, they look even worse.
- Speaking of the character designs, Rick Sanchez looks like a cone-headed version of Bert from Sesame Street and the Villager from Minecraft, and Tammy Guttermann looks very much like Stewie Griffin from Family Guy.
- The pacing is not very good, since the episodes are hard to sit through and boring compared to the original series but it was so much fun to watch.
- Because the pacing is not good, there's a ton of plot holes that can confuse viewers.
- The characters (except for Rick and Morty and some characters) are unlikable.

- The concept of an anime adaptation of Rick and Morty might be interesting, despite being unfaithful to the original series and the execution being pretty bad, as mentioned in WSCMSITA #1.
- Yōhei Tadano and Keisuke Chiba reprised their roles as Rick and Morty from the Japanese dub of the original series, despite none of the original actors from the original series being returned in the English dub.
- Rick and Morty are still likable here, much like the original series, even though some characters are likable.
- The shorts are better than the final product.

The show was mixed to negative reviews from critics, but it received negative reviews from users. It was praised for voice acting in Japanese versions and some characters are likable. It was criticized for English voice acting, animation, humor and jokes, weak plot, and less faithful to the original series.
On the review aggregator website Rotten Tomatoes, 50% of 6 critics' reviews for the first season were positive, with an average rating of 5.8/10.
