Snow Business (also known as Tweety & Sylvester in "Snow Business")is an episode from Looney Tunes and is the second episode of the 1953-era of the Looney Tunes series, it first aired on January 17, 1953.
Plot
A security guard refuses to let Granny drive her car back into the mountain cabin because the roads are blocked due to a bad snowstorm, but Granny pleads to be let through because her bird and cat would starve inside the cabin.
Meanwhile, friends Sylvester and Tweety are alone in Granny's mountain cabin. A radio report announces that due to heavy snow the roads will be blocked for six weeks. Panicked, Sylvester nervously checks the cabin for food but finds nothing but boxes and boxes of bird seed. He tries to talk Tweety into being cooked, first in a sailboat in a kettle on the stove, then ice skating in an oiled frying pan. Meanwhile, a hungry mouse keeps trying to eat Sylvester, and has better luck in eating Sylvester than Sylvester has in eating Tweety.
Granny finally arrives on snowshoes with a backpack full of food, but it's just more bird seed, much to Sylvester's disappointment. Sylvester munches the bird seed miserably, but the mouse has one last try at eating Sylvester. When Tweety asks Sylvester how he liked the bird seed, the mouse bites him on the tail, Sylvester yells and flies up in the air. Tweety says "Aw, come now, it can't be that bad."
Why It Sucks
- This episode blatantly takes elements from "Canned Feud", with both episodes involving:
- Sylvester being desperate for food while stuck in a house.
- A Mouse antagonizing Sylvester.
- Terrible twist endings.
- Much like that infamous episode, this is another very cruel Sylvester torturer episode.
- Despite being the most likable, Tweety does nothing to help Sylvester even tho he's in misery.
- The Hungry Mouse is a horrible and unlikable character who's characterized by nothing but wanting to eat Sylvester.
- This episode is not only very cruel for how it treats Sylvester, but is also a wasted potential of a great episode, an episode about Tweety & Sylvester being in a Cabin while in a snow storm was on paper a great idea of an episode, it would have came up with some interesting writing like seeing what kind of activities that Tweety & Sylvester could do during a snow storm, made some creative and funny gags that involves the snow storm during the Tweety & Sylvester chase sequences like wind and/or snow and even include some heart-warming moments as well such as Tweety & Sylvester getting together and viewing the snow storm, which the episode could have easily been about by the way. But instead... most of the plot is nothing but poor Sylvester being desperate for food while stuck in a house, a mouse trying to eat Sylvester and poor Sylvester being tormented though out the whole episode.
- Much like the infamous episode "Canned Feud", this episode tries way too hard to have poor Sylvester suffer and be tormented despite doing nothing wrong to be treated like this.
- Plot-holes:
- Instead of trying to eat Tweety, why doesn't Sylvester just ask Tweety to go out and get some food?
- Why didn't Granny also get cat food in the first place prier to going shopping?
- BIGGEST Plot-Hole: Why doesn't Sylvester just eat the freaking mouse who in term is also trying to eat Sylvester? Does Sylvester not realized that Cats also eats mice?
- This episode is also quite repetitive, as after the intro, most of the episode is nothing but Sylvester trying to talk Tweety into being cooked all the while a Hungry Mouse keeps trying to eat and torment Sylvester, and this goes on and on until the ending when Granny gets back.
- Terrible Twist Ending: Granny gets back with the food, but its revealed that she brought nothing but Bird Seeds, which means that poor Sylvester has no other choice but to eat the Bird Seeds as his main food, and the mouse is still on this verge to try and eat Sylvester, meaning that the Sylvester is gonna be doom for a very long time to come as they live in the mountain cabin.
- Granny and the Mouse are never punished for how they treated poor Sylvester.
Redeeming Qualities
- Sylvester is likable in this episode.
- The Hungry Mouse is thankfully never seen or mention again after this episode.
- The concept of this short was greatly improvised in the Pink Panther Cartoon created in 1967, "Pinknic".
- There are a few jokes that are funny.
Reception
Despite having more positive reviews then negative reviews, "Snow Business" has been critically panned by fans and critics alike, with many criticizing this episode for its numerous similarities to the near critically panned "Canned Feud", the overall torment that Sylvester goes thought out the episode and the very cruel and out-of-nowhere twist at the ending, it has been deemed as one of the worst Tweety & Sylvester Cartoons, as well as one of the worst Looney Tunes cartoons of all time.
