Shift into zero gravity!

Sonic Riders: Zero Gravity is a hoverboard racing video game developed by Sonic Team and published by Sega for the PlayStation 2 and Wii. It is the fifth racing game in the Sonic the Hedgehog series, and the second entry in the Sonic Riders series. A sequel, titled Sonic Free Riders, was released for the Xbox Kinect in 2010.
Why It Shifts Into Zero Gravity
- The gameplay has been replaced with the Gravity gauge rather than the previous game's Air gauge.
- The Gravity gauge is awesome to use as you can now pull off new moves such as Gravity Control (which shifts the gravity's course to turn in tight corners and access hard-to-reach shortcuts) and Gravity Dive (which creates a black hole to boost players speed and access upper terrains). These are all accomplished with Gravity Points, which are gain from doing tricks or getting item boosts.
- On that note, the zero gravity effects are visually and sonorously appealing.
- You can now Gear Change during races, which changes the type of Gear, ability or items you use.
- The story is slightly better than the previous game's as it delves deeper into the Babylon Rogues history explaining the secrets to the Ark of the Cosmos.
- Jason Griffith's performance as Jet is quite the improvement from the first game.
- Amazing soundtrack, especially Un-Gravitify and Catch Me If You Can's new version.
- A lot of the previous characters return with the addition of new characters to play as like Silver, Blaze and SCR-HD.
- Billy Hatcher from Billy Hatcher and the Giant Egg and Amigo from Samba De Amigo make guest appearances.
- The graphics are a step up compared to the previous game's with the awesome motion blur effect that's very appealing to look at.
- New variety of Gears. Boards, Skates and Bikes return with the addition of new ones like Air-Rides, Yachts and Wheels.
- New Survival Modes:
- Survival Battle - using your Gravity Control to fire missiles at your opponents.
- Survival Ball - using your Gravity Control to launch balls into hoops, which acts as a Football/Soccer game.
- Survival Relay - teaming up with two or more players to finish a race, which acts as a Relay Race with players using passing batons to the next person. This is the only mode in the game that's exclusively multiplayer.
Bad Qualities
- While previous characters return, characters like AIAI and Ulala don't return and are replaced by Amigo and Billy Hatcher.
- Some of the story missions may be difficult to do.
- Some gameplay elements of the first game were removed such as drifting (this can only be done with the Wheel Gears), Attacks (this can only be done with power-ups or a specific Gear) and Freestyle Tricks (which are replaced by pressing/flicking anywhere on the D-pad/analog stick).
- Gears are somewhat more expensive than the previous game's and now requires you to grind heavily in order to unlock them.
- While a lot of the Gears are great, there's also some mediocre Gears like "The Crazy" and "Money Crisis".
- The PlayStation 2 version has lower resolution and framerate compared to the Wii version.
- The Wii Remote's motion controls can be a bit finicky to use as the motion sensitivity is low and you cannot turn off the motion when using the D-Pad. Thankfully, you can use a GameCube controller.
- The pointer controls are even worse as you have to point all the way to the edges of the screen just to move even the slightest.
- A lack of online play as you can only share your ghost data through the Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
- The Riders series went downhill after this game, with the Infamous ones that cause killing the series.
Trivia
- Along with its predecessor, this game's fandub by SnapCube spawned many memes like "Jet, your application was denied!", the repetition of the "I'm not in the sky, dicknips!" line, "So long, you dusty bitch!" and the G-Mod battle.
