It is Patrick's birthday, and SpongeBob wants to give him "the best present ever": a photo signed by his favourite superheroes, Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy. However, the heroes want nothing more than to get rid of SpongeBob, so they keep sending him to accomplish random tasks around Bikini Bottom. After returning from one such task, SpongeBob discovers that the television in Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy's retirement home is broken, so he searches Bikini Bottom for repair tools. After finding the tools, SpongeBob returns to fix the television. Mermaid Man and Barnacle Boy, feeling grateful, finally give SpongeBob the autographs. The game ends with Patrick thanking SpongeBob for the autographs, and everyone wishing him a happy birthday.

Super Qualities

  2. Great voice actor and those voice actor are reprising their voices from the show.
  3. The graphics, while dated, are actually decent for the times, as the character designs are faithful to the show, the GBA version also had decent graphics.
  4. The gameplay, while sometimes hard, is actually challenging, each chapter has over 4 level per chapter, with the bosses at the end of each levels.
  5. Decent controls, despite sometime can be stiff and slightly unresponsive. The controls in the GBA version are tight and responsive and not really unresponsive.
  6. The level design is decent, despite some levels being poorly designed.
  7. SpongeBob has many equipment on this game:
    • Jellyfish Net can catch the Jellyfish as Ammo and it can attack to the enemies.
    • Jellyfish gun, which was an upgraded from the Jellyfish Net, and you can take the more Jellyfish ammo by finding the Jellyfish, and this weapon are better than the previously.

    • Reef Blower, where you can blow the object and launch off to break the breakable walls or shoot to the enemies.
    • Karate Glove, this weapon can attack the enemies for short amount of time for console version and permanently for GBA version.
    • Squeaky Boots, where you can crossing the spiky objects without hurting you.
  8. Speaking of which, the bosses while some of them is easy to fight, has some strategy to make thing more challenging and everytime you fight the boss, there's the guided, where can you helped the player for how to defeat the boss.
  9. The bonus levels are fun.
  10. To getting the extra lives, you need collecting 100 spatulas without hitting it or you find the pants to collect.
  11. The ending, while bland, is pretty decent for kids game.
  12. You can buy the party item in the bonus level to make more happy ending.
  13. The music is pretty decent with the musics being faithful to the music style of the show

Not-Super Qualities

  1. While the graphics are decent, it is slightly outdated, with them being too pixelated for the character.
  2. While the controls are tight, sometimes, the controls can be slightly unresponsive, especially on the PS1 version.
    • The PS1 version, while having decent controls, had slippery controls that can make the game frustrating.
  3. Some level can had massive difficulty spike:
    • The Downtown Bikini Bottom in Chapter 1, Level 4 is very hard, due to having too many enemies and obstacles that can hit you out of nowhere.
  4. While the ending is decent, it is somewhat very bland.
  5. To get the bonus stage, you need collect all spatula and without hitting anything whatsoever and you must collect them all. And it's very difficult to collect.
  6. The game over is pretty much a tearjerker and sometimes pretty mean-spirited and it's almost bad as Gone episode (which was aired 8 years later) since Patrick literally states that nobody loves him anymore which is depressing.
  7. The GBA version, while good has some problem, such as no save feature and instead password features, and there's no voice actor (though it is excusable due to it being released in early life for the GBA).
  8. The game is short, lasting for 2 hours for PlayStation, and on GBA it is even shorter, lasting 45 minutes.

Reception

The game received mixed reception from critics.
