"Stooge for a Mouse" is a 1950 Merrie Melodies short directed by Friz Freleng. In this short, Sylvester and his friend Hector (named Mike), a bulldog, are turned against each other by a menacing mouse.

Bad Qualities

  1. Much like "Mexican Cat Dance" and "Canned Feud, this cartoon is a Sylvester torture short, as he gets tortured for no reason by the mouse and Mike.
  2. The mouse is extremely unlikable on this cartoon since he made Sylvester and Mike turn against each other and beat each other up.
  3. Hector/Mike is also a huge idiot on this short because he doesn’t know that the mouse is responsible for making it look like Sylvester was planning to kill Mike.
  4. Very mean spirited and sadistic gags such as the mouse giving Sylvester a knife to make it look like he was going to kill Mike.
  5. The jokes in this short are not funny and are very cruel and sadistic.
  6. Sylvester and Hector/Mike never apologize or forgive each other at the end of the short.
  7. Horrible ending with Sylvester and Hector/Mike beaten up and the house destroyed and Sylvester and Mike not knowing that the mouse made them turn against each other.

Good Qualities

  1. Sylvester and Hector/Mike (at the beginning) are the only likable characters in this short.
  2. Mel Blanc does a good job with the voice work, as usual.
  3. As with the earlier "Looney Tunes" shorts, Carl Stalling's musical score is amazing to listen to, and fits the onscreen action nicely.
  4. Decent animation for its time.
  5. The Mouse does get his comeuppance at the end.
  6. "I don't know how youse done it but I know youse done it!"
  7. Friz Freleng improved the concept seven years later in the Bugs Bunny cartoon "Bugsy and Mugsy", where in that cartoon Bugs is depicted as a lot more sympathetic than the mouse and with a more valid reason to make Rocky and Mugsy turn against each other and beat each other up because both Rocky and Mugsy are revealed to be bank robbers who broke in into his home in an abandoned flat to escape the police force.
