Summer Job is the second segment of the 136th episode from the 7th season of SpongeBob SquarePants.

Plot

To pay off the damage, Mrs. Puff works with SpongeBob at the Krusty Krab.

Why It Doesn't Deserve a Summer Job

  1. For starters, this is a very mean-spirited torture episode directed toward Mrs. Puff as she is forced to work with SpongeBob at the Krusty Krab, and gets arrested later on in the episode (See WIDDASJ#5 below).
  2. Mrs. Puff herself seemed a bit unlikable and impolite in this episode as SpongeBob just tried to give her a note, but she didn't even try to listen to him which ends up causing the events of this episode. She even ripped up the note that SpongeBob left on her boat and threw it on the ground which leads her to go to jail for littering.
  3. SpongeBob is infuriatingly annoying in this one. The ending also begs the question: how can SpongeBob be a driving teacher if he can’t drive?!
  4. Mr. Krabs is very unlikeable here; he is badly flanderized by blackmailing his girlfriend, and they act like they never met each other before, thus making "Krusty Love", a good episode, pointless.
    • What makes things worse is that apparently Mrs. Puff and Mr. Krabs have been dating for over 16 years as revealed in Whirly Brains, which although doesn't really matter since that episode came almost half a decade later, is still frustrating.
  5. The whole thing could’ve been avoided if SpongeBob simply waited for a note. Oh, and he gets away with making Mrs. Puff crash into the Krusty Krab! And worst of all, he gets no comeuppance for his horrid actions!
  6. Massive plot hole: How the heck can SpongeBob become a driving teacher if he doesn't even have a driving license?!
  7. Calculation error: Mrs. Puff says that she will be in jail for 2,529 days, which is "four years without SpongeBob". When in reality, 2,529 days is roughly 6.9 years, which is seven years in jail. So, she should’ve said, "Seven years without SpongeBob".
  8. How did Mrs. Puff land in jail in the first place? She finally snaps... and then she litters. This shows how strict and unlikable and useless the Bikini Bottom police are.
  9. Awful ending: Mrs. Puff is in 4, technically 7 years all for littering, and she must take a driver's course; somehow, SpongeBob is the teacher although he can't drive.

Qualities That Are Actually Good Summer Jobs

  1. Mrs. Puff, as usual with these torture episodes, is a likable character.
    • Speaking of which, she gets her comeuppance for being impolite to SpongeBob by being forced to work with him at the Krusty Krab and then go to traffic school where he is a driving teacher for said school.
  2. This can be seen as a breather episode, as that huge infamous episode comes after this one.
  3. Depending on your view, the part where Mrs. Puff is on the barrel and SpongeBob drives it is decent and sort of action-packed.
  4. SpongeBob pretending to be Yukthomas Féyêdêmuffin was the only funny moment in this episode.
  5. Thankfully, this episode is non-canon as none of the events of this episode is mentioned again.

Reception

  • The episode along with its sister episode got a 5.3 rating on IMDb.
  • PhantomStrider stated that this is the worst Mr. Krabs episode.

Trivia

  • This episode and its sister episode aired four days before the series premiere of Victorious.
