Super Dragon Ball Heroes (Japanese: スーパードラゴンボールヒーローズ, Hepburn: Sūpā Doragon Bōru Hīrōzu) is a Japanese original net animation and promotional anime series for the card and video games of the same name. Similar to Dragon Ball GT, it is a manga-inspired installment of the Dragon Ball media franchise, created by Toei Animation instead of franchise creator Akira Toriyama.

The promotional anime was met with mixed reactions from Dragon Ball's fan base. Some criticized the promotional anime's confusing and monotonous storyline, Dragon Ball-unlike environment, and "power scaling" that appears to be largely inconsistent throughout episodes and with the overall franchise. Others, however, acclaimed its animation and combat-only concept.

Plot

Prison Planet Arc

Following the Tournament of Power, Goku, Vegeta, and Future Mai are informed by a mysterious figure named Fu that Future Trunks is being held captive on a world called the Prison Planet, which is under the control of Frieza's long-lost brother Cooler. While there, they are confronted by the evil ancient Saiyan, Kanba. After defeating Kanba and freeing Future Trunks, the events on the Prison Planet were revealed to be conducted by Hearts. Hearts, who has recruited a cyborg version of Zamasu from another timeline, reveals his plan to kill Lord Zeno and his future counterpart just before destroying the Prison Planet.

Universal Conflict Arc

The surviving heroes safely make it back to Beerus' world while Goku is rescued by the Grand Priest, who decides to train him so that he can maintain Ultra Instinct "Omen". Hearts plants a "universal seed" in Universe 11 to drain its energy as he sends enemies across Universes 3 and 6. Vegeta, Trunks, and the fighters of Universe 6 face against Tuffle siblings Oren and Kamin, who eventually fuse into "Kamioren" while Cooler, now transformed into "Metal Cooler", fights against Kanba in Universe 3. The fight on Universe 6 is eventually taken to Universe 11. Goku arrives in Universe 11, having now mastered Ultra Instinct "Omen". Vegeta manages to defeat Kamioren with his evolved Super Saiyan Blue. Realizing he can't defeat Hearts with Ultra Instinct "Omen", Goku convinces Vegeta to fuse with him into "Gogeta". Gogeta, powered up to Super Saiyan Blue, delivers a final blast aimed towards the seed, now infused in Heart's chest, killing him. With his final words, Hearts explains that his true intentions were to free all mortals from the Omni-King's rule before congratulating Gogeta and the other fighters on defeating him. Elsewhere, a satisfied Fu declares that his next experiment is ready to begin.

Universe Creation Arc

In Universe 7, Beerus warns the Z-Fighters of a bird that will destroy the multiverse. Fu arrives with "Dogi-Dogi" - the prophesied "Bird of Catastrophe" - and explains his plan to create an entirely new universe using the "Universe Trees" he planted across the multiverse that was created from Heart's experimental universe seed and then flees back with Dogi-Dogi. The tree in Universe 7 begins weakening its inhabitants, including Krillin and Piccolo. Beerus raises a shield around the Tree to drain its energy instead, despite not being able to do it for long. Fu recruits revived villains such as Turles, Bojack, Super Android 17, and Dr. Wheelo from alternate timelines. Turles and Bojack attack Goku and Vegeta in the main timeline, while Dr. Wheelo collects Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta's energy, reviving the ancient demon Janemba as "Janemba Black".

In Hell, Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta, while in Super Saiyan 4, are launched backward after being caught up in a large explosion. Janemba Black emerges and fires a powerful blast from his mouth that the Saiyan pair are forced to block. Janemba Black charges in for a close-quarters confrontation and easily fends off the two attacking Saiyans.

Standing nearby, Dr. Wheelo watches the ongoing battle, claiming that the Saiyans will not be able to defeat Janemba Black due to him being given all of Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta's abilities. With a twin blast, Janemba Black sends the two flying back into the cliffside and laughs in triumph. As Janemba Black attempts to charge in again, a rift unexpectedly opens above and Goku, Vegeta, Xeno Trunks and Xeno Pan fall through where they land with a heavy thud. Dr. Wheelo notices the sudden arrival and theorizes that the group has ended up here due to being caught up in time distortion.

While everyone is busy being confused about why each set of heroes is in the present area, Janemba Black attacks the group. Goku and Vegeta head into battle as Super Saiyan Blues. under the impression that Janemba Black is another one of Fu's companions. The two fair no better than their Time Patrol counterparts and the other four Saiyans joins in, with Xeno Trunks transforming into a Super Saiyan 3, and surround Janemba Black from all sides. They fire a blast in unison, but Janemba Black emerges unscathed. Goku and his counterpart attack together and finally land a hit on him, though it deals no noticeable damage.

Suddenly, Janemba Black's legs are encased in ice, just as Putine and Salsa emerge through another rift. Salsa uses his Tricky Storm technique, sending out a surge of violent waves that hurtle Janemba Black backward while Dr. Wheelo looks on in horror.

Following the unexpected arrival of Salsa and Putine, the Z-Fighters and Time Patrol members join their side. Not knowing who the pair are, Goku asks about them and Xeno Trunks tells him that they were members of the Demon Realm that they defeated a long time ago. When Goku asks if they are bad guys, Putine instead asks if he wants to know how to destroy the Universe Tree, much to the shock of the others. Using her staff, Putine shows a projection of the current worsening situation on Earth as the tree continues to grow.

Janemba Black returns to the battlefield to continue where he left off. Xeno Trunks transforms into a Super Saiyan God, which comes as a surprise to both Goku and Vegeta. Janemba Black begins to unleash an array of energy blasts at everyone, before appearing behind Vegeta to knee him hard in the stomach. He then proceeds to use his Dimensional Hole technique to strike at the others, as well as avoid getting struck by one of Xeno Goku's energy blasts.

Salsa tells Xeno Goku to do the thing that he did once before when he fought the Shadow Dragons. Xeno Goku asks everyone to give their energy to him. Though Vegeta is reluctant, Xeno Trunks convinces him to do so. While Salsa and Putine buy them some time, Goku, Vegeta, Xeno Trunks, and Xeno Pan share their energy with Xeno Goku and Xeno Vegeta, which grants them access to the Super Full Power Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker form.

With their newfound might, they quickly gain the upper hand over Janemba Black. Xeno Goku suggests to Xeno Vegeta a particular technique that they should use and the two charge up their energy to perform the Limit Breaker Double Ultimate Dragon Fist, which completely obliterates Janemba Black. As Dr. Wheelo makes a hasty retreat, a few words are shared before Putine teleports everyone away to the location of the Universe Tree. Meanwhile, in another part of Hell, the deceased Hearts sits locked in a cell with an evil smirk on his face.

Thanks to Putine's magic, the Z-Fighters and Time Patrol arrive at the location of the Universe Tree. As they stare in awe at the sheer size of it, Vegeta decides to single-handedly destroy the tree on his own, though Putine and Salsa chide him for even trying, saying that he is just wasting his energy. Vegeta powers up a huge ball of energy and hurls it at the tree, though the attack is for naught as the tree absorbs the energy for itself.

Fu appears and welcomes everyone to what he designates as the "Time Rift", a place that not even the Gods can enter. He suggests that they wait to see the birth of a new universe and thanks Vegeta for the extra added energy he supplied to the tree. Suddenly, Xeno Goku, Xeno Vegeta, Xeno Trunks, and Xeno Pan are forcibly teleported away by Towa. After she claims that all of this is for Fu, which confuses him, she leaves almost immediately along with Salsa and Putine, leaving only Goku, Vegeta and Fu left at the Time Rift.

Vegeta transforms into a Super Saiyan Blue and charges at Fu, though he can easily halt his momentum and unleashes some evil energy over Vegeta, which he recognizes as being from Kanba. Fu says that he is interested in the power that he wields, as Kanba is shown elsewhere unconscious in a tank with his energy being filtered through long tubes. Goku too transforms into a Super Saiyan Blue and heads in to aid Vegeta but is too late as he is taken over and becomes a Corrupted Super Saiyan Blue. Fu then repeats the process with Goku and the two corrupted Saiyans flail wildly at Fu, who easily fends them off before purifying them of the evil energy.

Fu turns and looks at the tree, saying that "it" will soon happen and they should watch as one universe is destroyed and another birthed at the same time. With time running short, Goku removes a Potara earring from his pocket that he retrieved from Salsa and tosses it to Vegeta, suggesting that they fuse into "Vegetto". As the two fuses, Fu comments that he had already seen it once before and attempts to fire a blast of Kanba's evil energy at him. However, it fails to take Vegetto over, due to him creating a Ki barrier around himself. Vegetto transforms into a Super Saiyan Blue and prepares to battle Fu.

Meanwhile, Towa watches over the captured Xeno Goku, Xeno Vegeta, Xeno Trunks, and Xeno Pan, all bound and helpless thanks to Kanba's evil energy. Unable to do anything but watch the battles taking place in the Crack of Time on a large monitor, Towa informs the Time Patrollers that she is the one responsible for creating Fu, using data from many powerful fighters over time to create him. She tells of her intention to make Fu the next Dark King, succeeding the late Mechikabura, and the one who shall rule over the Demon Realm.

Towa removes from her pocket a black orb which begins to draw dark energy from the bodies of the Time Patrollers. She explains that it is the life energy needed to transform one into the Dark King. Previously, it belonged to Mechikabura but, upon his defeat at the hands of Xeno Trunks, the dark energy was released and went inside the beings closest to him at the time, the Time Patrollers, though they were unaware of this having happened. Finally, she tells them that she plans to give this dark energy to Fu.

Refusing to allow that to happen, Xeno Goku forces himself free from his bindings but is attacked immediately by the newly-arrived Mira. Sarcastically telling Xeno Goku that he has forgotten something, he brings along a beaten and unconscious Xeno Gohan and Xeno Goten with him. Towa draws the black orb back to her and, stating that she has already received the dark energy from those two as well, says that she no longer has any use for the Time Patrollers and she and Mira take their leave as the Time Patrollers are drawn away to another location through space and time.

In the Crack of Time, Vegetto continues his battle with Fu, establishing an advantage. Despite his lack of enjoyment for fighting, Fu transforms into his "Super Fu" state in an attempt to close the gap between them. The two continue and, although Fu appears to land a powerful attack, Vegetto emerges unscathed and strikes back with a Kamehameha that severely injures Fu. Spitting out blood, Fu notes that Vegetto has grown in strength since his time in the Demon Realm.

Suddenly, the Universe Tree begins to glow as an elated Fu is ready to witness the birth of a new universe. However, just as quickly, the light fades away as the tree begins to rot. Confused as to what is going on, Fu pulls up a series of monitors that display the tree's roots fading away from the planets that they were inhabiting. Elsewhere, Beerus and Champa, along with their attendants Whis and Vados, reside on the outskirts of Earth. Having gathered the Super Dragon Balls together, they are shown to have been the ones responsible for having summoned Super Shenron to have him destroy the Universe Tree.

Fu realizes that the Gods of Destruction are responsible for the Universe Tree being destroyed and flies into a rage. Towa and Mira appear, with the former giving Fu the dark energy she had extracted from the Time Patrol. As the dark energy becomes one with Fu, his memories of his time as a baby are returned to him and he soon ascends to his most powerful state: the Dark King of Fear.

As Fu looks upon Towa once again, he remembers her as his mother, though she instead claims that both she and Mira are merely his servants. Fu tells them to go away and, with a simple gesture, unleashes his dark energy upon the rotting Universe Tree. Vegetto rushes in to try and stop Fu, and the two begin to battle. Fu tells Vegetto not to interfere and that he will restore the Universe Tree using his power. Vegetto asks what he will do with a new universe, but Fu does not answer him, instead choosing to continue fighting. Towa and Mira fire blasts at Vegetto and tell Fu to continue with his plan while they try to hold Vegetto at bay.

As Fu continues to give his energy to the tree, a light shines brightly nearby as a portal opens up. Super Full Power Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker Xeno Vegetto appears with both Demigra and Robelu in tow. Xeno Vegetto charges forward and punches Fu in the face to ignite his anger. Elsewhere, in a place surrounded by rubble, Broly rises to his feet and smiles evilly as his eyes give off a white glow.

Xeno Vegetto continues his fight with Fu while the others watch from nearby. During a temporary halt in the action, Fu unleashes his power and creates a lavish ballroom that Vegetto and Xeno Vegetto find themselves inside. Growing impatient, Xeno Vegetto fires off a blast toward Fu, though he easily dodges it.

Just then, a sudden energy spike causes the building to violently shake. The one responsible, Broly, flies in through a window above and attacks Xeno Vegetto without hesitation. Towa and Demigra comment separately on how, after Broly's brainwashing wore off, his battle strength grew to unforeseen levels due to his countless near-death battles. Nevertheless, Xeno Vegetto continues to hold a slight advantage, causing Broly to power up to Super Full Power Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker entirely on his own.

When Broly charges back into battle once more, Vegetto intervenes and the two battle Broly together. However, this time, Broly holds the advantage. While the battle continues, Fu returns to the Universe Tree and uses his power to begin fully restoring it. Vegetto decides to hold off Broly on his own to allow Xeno Vegetto the opportunity to stop Fu from creating the new universe. Elsewhere, Hearts is shown next to an unconscious Kanba in a medical tank as a bright light shines over them.

With an orange and black glowing orb in hand, Fu scoffs at the look of his new universe, though finds it interesting nevertheless. Continuing where he left off, Xeno Vegetto attacks Fu, with the latter finding his opponent to be annoyingly persistent. As the two continue their skirmish, Fu declares that his experiment is not yet over and sends the glowing orb above, telling Xeno Vegetto that he must want to see his new universe as well.

Meanwhile, Demigra mocks Towa by saying that Fu does not appear to be an ideal king after all. Agitated, Towa transforms into a new version of her Demon Goddess form. When Demigra asks if she intends to fight him, Robelu instead steps forward and reveals that she has the Demon Goddess transformation as well. While Robelu and Towa begin their battle, Demigra heads towards the battle involving Xeno Vegetto and Fu and uses his magic to trap them both within his Time Labyrinth, though Towa boasts that it will not be able to hold her son for long. Following this, both Demigra and Robelu teleport away.

On Beerus's Planet, Whis and Vados since the creation of a new universe. Vados asks where Goku and Vegeta are, and Whis can sense Goku awakens in a new universe right outside of Capsule Corporation, confused at current events.

New Space-Time War Arc

In Fu's new universe, a warrior clad in all-black stands atop a building in West City while Goku runs down the streets below, dodging various spaceship blasts being fired in his direction. Goku is contacted telepathically by Xeno Trunks, currently in the Time Nest, who tells Goku that Fu's new universe is an imperfect copy of Universe 7 that has no signs of life within. However, when a blast aimed at Goku hits one of the nearby buildings, the same building in Universe 7 collapses along with it. Though not fully grasping the situation, Goku nevertheless flies away from the city.

Meanwhile, on Frieza's Spaceship, Frieza becomes impatient and decides to leave the ship along with Meta-Cooler, who follows suit. The two fly down towards Goku and kick him to the ground, declaring that Goku is their prey. As Goku struggles to get to his feet, the two tyrants charge in for another attack, only to be struck by Hearts' Gravity Cage technique which pins the two to the ground. Goku is surprised to see Hearts, not knowing that he was still alive, but Hearts points out the halo above his head, revealing that he was freed from Hell by Demigra. Hearts asks Goku to join forces with him, needing his power and to take down Fu, believing that he was selfish for using the Universe Tree in the way that he did.

Frieza and Meta-Cooler re-emerge, now in their Golden Evolution forms. Meta-Cooler points out that Hearts is an ally of Kanba, who he still holds a grudge against and charges at Hearts in a fit of rage. As Hearts and Meta-Cooler battle, Goku engages Frieza, withstanding his powerful attack to enter the Ultra Instinct "Omen" state and quickly take Frieza down, saying that his priority is to return to Universe 7. Suddenly, both Frieza and Meta-Cooler are given Dark Dragon Balls by an unknown assailant. The orbs merge with them and power them up dramatically, as Goku and Hearts prepare for an even tougher fight.

From above, the battle is being watched by a masked Saiyan bearing an uncanny resemblance to Goku Black, who chuckles as he reveals that the fighters are unknowingly aiding his evil plans.

Frieza and Meta-Cooler continue to battle Goku and Hearts, now in their Golden Dark Dragon Ball-empowered states. Proving strong and capable enough to gain an advantage over their foes, Goku asks what has happened to them that has caused their strength to increase so much. Hearts tells Goku that it is because of the Dark Dragon Balls and that, once they merge with their host, they go completely berserk.

As Frieza and Meta-Cooler dart towards their enemies once again, a powerful force appears from above. As the smoke clears, Broly appears in plain view in his Legendary Super Saiyan state. Goku deduces that he must have been transported to Fu's universe the same way he was, as Hearts wonders if his sudden appearance is a blessing or not. Without warning, Broly charges forward and strikes a mighty blow to the midsections of both Goku and Hearts to knock them aside, then turns around to face Frieza and Meta-Cooler, who attempt to attack him. With a single blast, he takes the two galactic tyrants out.

Badly injured, Meta-Cooler gets quite a shock when the mysterious Warrior in Black appears before him and attacks, hurtling him into the sky before extracting the Two-Star Dark Dragon Ball from his chest. Frieza goes after the warrior next in a frenzy, though he is effortlessly overpowered and the warrior takes the One-Star Dark Dragon Ball from him. The Warrior in Black turns his attention towards Broly next, gesturing him to follow after him as they take off across the sky.

After Goku, Hearts, and the crimson-masked Saiyan wonder who the mysterious guest is, the masked Saiyan lowers himself and speaks with Goku and Hearts, telling them that Fu's universe is useful for sorting out disputes and urges the two to keep fighting. Hearts asks if he is one of Fu's followers, though he is cryptic with his answer and immediately takes his leave.

An exhausted Goku sits on the ground, and Hearts tosses him a Senzu Bean that he had found in his time before the confrontations. Goku recovers from his injuries and thanks Hearts before getting to his feet. Hearts then brings out the Four-Star Dragon Ball and tells Goku that, if the Senzu Bean had the same effect in Fu's universe, the same should be true for the Dragon Balls as well. The two decide to collect all seven of the Dragon Balls and use them to escape from Fu's universe. They both head to Capsule Corporation, where Goku collects the Dragon Radar. Turning it on, he picks up two signals, one of which belongs to Hearts and the other is up above them.

Above the clouds, Planet Vegeta looms near Earth. Atop King Vegeta's palace, a wounded Vegeta is shown engaged in a battle against Turles and Kanba. The crimson-masked Saiyan, who is now present at this location, goads them into fighting each other.

Vegeta charges at Kanba, but is easily blasted away and suffers severe damage. Kanba says that evil is the true nature of the Saiyan race, adding that Vegeta has lost his pride and is thus a disgrace to all Saiyans. However, Kanba is suddenly ambushed by Turles, who tells Kanba that he should've remembered about him. Turles goes on to claim that he is the strongest Saiyan thanks to continuously eating the Fruits of the Tree of Might and thereby gaining endless evil power from it. Demanding to see his true power, Kanba attacks Turles.

As Kanba and Turles fight each other, Goku and Hearts teleport there and immediately notice the unconscious Vegeta. Hearts simply spectate the battle, noting that Kanba is enjoying his freedom. Suddenly, the crimson-masked Saiyan arrives and informs Goku that he is his opponent before transforming into a Super Saiyan Rosé. He then takes off his mask, revealing that he is indeed Goku Black, revived through unknown means. Black proclaims that he will defeat his original counterpart and prove himself to be the superior Goku. Goku goes Super Saiyan Blue and the two fight, with Hearts following them after transforming into Super Hearts.

Vegeta manages to recover, wondering how and why Goku Black is alive and in Fu's universe, but is then punched into a wall by Turles, who asks Vegeta what he is looking at before being ambushed himself by Kanba. Turles continues his fight with Kanba, challenging the power of the legendary Saiyan of Evil. Vegeta gets back up, with Turles stating that he has gotten sloppy. If he is a Saiyan, he should remember his former evil self before he attempts to corrupt Vegeta using his evil energy.

As this happens, Vegeta remembers several of his past deeds, such as killing Nappa and massacring Elder Tsuno's village. He reasons if the nature of Saiyans is truly evil or not, and then remembers his death at the hands of Frieza and Goku's battle with Kid Buu. Finally, Vegeta proclaims that it's wrong and manages to overcome the corruption, making that power his own.

Kanba and Turles are both shocked at this, and Vegeta suddenly attacks Turles, asking him how he could say that evil is the nature of the Saiyans. He states that one can only be a warrior and a Saiyan if they continue fighting to become stronger. He then easily defeats Turles, and Kanba demands that Vegeta fight him. Vegeta does so, saying that seeking the power of evil has no meaning for him. He then fires a Galick Gun strong enough to shatter Kanba's breathing apparatus, who only states that it's admirable for Vegeta to make his power his own before collapsing unconscious to the ground. Vegeta turns to a terrified Turles, telling him to train and come back if he has any Saiyan pride left in him. Turles replies that if it means that he will become a low-class Saiyan again, then he is fine with that.

Turning his attention to a nearby energy signature, Vegeta is shocked to see that Goku Black has just defeated Goku and Hearts. Black, with a smug grin on his face, tells Vegeta that he will be the next one to die.

Goku Black continues to hold Goku by his throat until Vegeta begins to charge up a Galick Gun, causing Black to toss Goku aside. Staring at Vegeta, he recalls what Fu had told him about Vegeta's current form and that the limitations of Vegeta's body would soon catch up to him. As Vegeta realizes that Black is from an alternate timeline, Black explains that, as he traveled across various timelines, he encountered and battled Goku in everyone, defeating and killing him regardless of his use of Super Saiyan 3, Super Saiyan God, or Super Saiyan Blue. His current fight with Goku on Planet Vegeta marks his 100th encounter with Goku.

As Vegeta is about to fire off his attack, he suddenly falls to his knees and out of his Super Saiyan Blue state, to which Goku Black notes that he has not yet mastered his new power. Black powers up a blast of his own, preparing to eradicate both Vegeta and his homeworld, but Goku unexpectedly appears behind him in his Ultra Instinct "Omen" state.

Goku Black turns quickly and blasts Goku at point-blank range, though it causes no damage to him. Goku proceeds to avoid every one of his opponent's attacks and appears to have the advantage. Black notes that, if Goku can continue to grow stronger, then so can he, before taking to the skies and firing a couple of energy blasts that leave Planet Vegeta on the verge of destruction. Hearts, meanwhile, recovers Kanba before spotting a Dragon Ball hidden beneath some rubble.

Goku lands near Vegeta and Hearts, and attempts to use Instant Transmission to escape, but is unable to as he cannot sense any other Ki signatures. However, Cell appears, much to everyone's surprise. An enraged Goku Black tries to dispose of him, only to be hit by a blast from Turles. Turles is vaporized by Black in retaliation, but the time bought allows Cell to teleport away along with the others. Goku Black curses Cell's interference before he teleports himself away, just as Planet Vegeta explodes.

Later, Goku asks Cell how he was able to come back, though Cell simply says it is just the same as how Hearts was able to. Vegeta asks why he decided to save them, but Cell tells them to be patient and hear what he has to say.

In an underground cavern, Goku and his group meet up with Gohan, Krillin, Android 18, and Android 17. Vegeta takes the opportunity to question Cell on why he is there with them. As it turns out, he was brought back from Hell by the Demon God of Death Shroom, who arrives to join the group alongside Salsa and Putine. Shroom explains that Cell is lending them a hand in their attempt to stop Goku Black, who seeks to restart the "Zero Mortals Plan". He further explains that Goku Black deceived Fu, manipulating him instead, and went on a rampage that ended with the annihilation of all mortal life in various timelines that he traveled across, which he plans to repeat in Fu's universe as well as Universe 7. Vegeta shows a clear lack of trust in Cell, with the bio-android saying that he has no intention of helping them beyond the current problem. However, in his mind, Cell has determined that he will not simply return to Hell so easily after being there for so long. Unbeknownst to Cell, Hearts has read his mind, though he decides to keep Cell's intentions between the two of them a secret for now.

Knowing that they must stop Goku Black, Gohan asks his father about Ultra Instinct, though Goku says that he has not yet mastered the ability. Goku turns to Vegeta and asks if he has adapted to his new power yet, but it is clear from his reaction that he has not. Shroom offers to help the two master their power and, along with Salsa and Putine, they create a beam of light that leads to a place similar to that of the Hyperbolic Time Chamber, but with additional phantoms made up of enemies they have previously encountered. Wondering if they have enough time for such a thing, Shroom tells them that their ally is on his way to hold off Goku Black. Goku and Vegeta head into the light, where they are transported elsewhere and quickly find themselves surrounded.

In West City, Goku Black stands atop a building, stating that all mortal life in Universe 7 will soon be eradicated. He is suddenly ambushed by the Warrior in Black, who throws a punch in his direction, though Black can block it in time. Black transforms into Super Saiyan Rosé 2 to continue the battle and explains that he has been gathering energy from various conflicts to create mortals. After he populates Fu's universe with mortals, he will then be able to wipe out all mortals within both Fu's universe and Universe 7, since both universes are linked together. The Warrior in Black then transforms into a Super Saiyan, bearing a striking resemblance to Goku. Shocked, Black asks him who he is, though the Warrior in Black simply says that he has long since abandoned his name, and charges into battle.

Back at the cavern, Gohan and the others sense the current battle at hand and Hearts suggests that they go and help. However, Dr. Wheelo appears along with Bojack and Super Android 17 and vows to wipe out the group. Dr. Wheelo then transforms into his true form, with his organic skin sloughing off and revealing a cybernetic body underneath. Gohan decides to take him on but is blasted through the cavern wall. Gohan transforms into a Super Saiyan to stay in the fight while the scene cuts to the continued battle between Goku Black and the Warrior in Black.

The two battle in and around the city, with Goku Black appearing to have the upper hand. After knocking the robed warrior through a series of buildings, he decides to transform into Super Saiyan Rosé 3 and, with a single mighty energy blast, takes his opponent down. The Warrior in Black struggles to get on his feet as Goku Black goes in for the kill. Before he can, however, Goku and Vegeta re-emerge as Gohan defeats Dr. Wheelo. The Saiyan duo quickly travel to West City, with Goku in his Perfected Ultra Instinct state and Vegeta in his new Super Saiyan Blue state. A furious Goku Black tells them that their struggle is pointless, with Goku retorting that they won't know that unless they try.

The Warrior in Black watches as Goku and Vegeta battle Goku Black in the skies above West City. Seeing how well the two are faring, he takes his leave, citing other things that need to be done. Black begins taking heavy damage from Goku and Vegeta's combined assault, as Goku in his Perfected Ultra Instinct form lunges forward and lands a mighty blow that hurls Black into a nearby building. Right afterward, Goku's power fades, as he is still unable to maintain the use of Perfected Ultra Instinct for long. Black vows that he will never lose to a "wretched mortal" like Goku, before powering up further and unlocking a new transformation: Legendary Super Saiyan Rosé.

Vegeta charges forward, but his attacks prove futile as Goku Black takes no damage. Black then fires an energy blast at Vegeta, which sends him hurtling toward the ground below and reverts him into his base form. Frieza and Meta-Cooler then make their return in their Golden Evolution forms, announcing their plan to get revenge on Black for their earlier humiliation. Not wanting them to interfere, Black pulls out a Scroll of Eternity and summons Majin Omega Shenron, who quickly blasts the two intergalactic tyrants away. Hearts and Kanba are the next to arrive, telling Goku that they will deal with Omega Shenron while he and Vegeta can focus on taking down Black.

With no other choice, the two Saiyans fuse into Gogeta. Without uttering a single word, Gogeta lands a mighty punch on Goku Black, though his wound quickly regenerates. Gogeta powers up further, taking on the Super Saiyan Blue Evolved form to overcome the regeneration, dealing out the damage that Black cannot keep up with. Furious at the thought of losing to a mortal, Black powers up beyond his limits and attempts another attack, though Gogeta effortlessly dodges it and strikes back with enough force to completely disintegrate Black, finally killing him once and for all.

As Hearts and Kanba fight Majin Omega Shenron, the Shadow Dragon suddenly groans in pain before vanishing, Black's death having undone his summoning. Gogeta defuses and the Warrior in Black re-appears, carrying the complete set of Dragon Balls from Fu's universe. Using them, Goku is returned to the Universe Tree in the Crack of Time, where he encounters a younger-looking Fu who has merged with Dogi-Dogi.

In the Crack of Time, Fu reveals to Goku and the other Saiyans that, after being trapped in the Time Labyrinth by Demigra, he summoned Dogi-Dogi to escape and subsequently merged with him to unlock his full power. He then attacks, just as a rampaging Super Full Power Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker Broly appears and sets his sights on Goku.

Broly fires an energy blast toward him, but the blast is deflected thanks to the timely arrival of Hearts and Kanba. On Hearts' command, Kanba engages Broly in battle, who demonstrates his power by kicking Kanba into the Universe Tree. Hearts transforms into Super Hearts and joins the battle.

From above, Fu attacks the Saiyans once more before forming a blade made of energy and launching a powerful attack. When the smoke clears, Gogeta and Xeno Gogeta are shown to have transformed into their Super Saiyan Blue Evolved and Super Full Power Saiyan 4 Limit Breaker states before charging at Fu.

The two fusions fire a barrage of energy blasts at the Dark King of Fear, but Fu powers up further, boasting that his power surpasses even the gods now. Fu then defuses the two with a blast of darkness and disposes of the Vegetas by teleporting them to another dimension so he can prevent any more fusions from happening, but the Gokus receive some unexpected backup in the form of Chronoa, the Supreme Kai of Time.

Chronoa heals the Gokus of their injuries and asks them to power up beyond their limits. She then performs a technique that allows the two Saiyans to merge their Ki, saying that this is the only way they will be able to defeat Fu.

With their Ki fused by Chronoa, Goku and Xeno Goku face off against Fu. They attack with a combined Kamehameha, which breaks through all of Fu's barriers, forcing him to block it himself. Despite Fu stating the attack was dangerous, Xeno Goku notes that, even with this immense power, he and his alternate self are still unable to beat the Dark King of Fear. Chronoa notes how much power and evil energy Fu has, to which he replies that it doesn't matter if the power he possesses is evil. Seeking to know how the universe he helped create came to be, Fu states he plans to cleanse Universe 7 of all mortal life, wondering what it will grow and end up like. He asks if the others are excited, but Goku retorts that Fu's plans make him no better than Goku Black.

Fu sighs and says that, as he has no other choice, anyone who opposes him will be destroyed. As Goku and Xeno Goku brace themselves, Fu begins absorbing power from the Universe Tree, and to an extent, all of the universe itself. The two Gokus and Chronoa notice this, and with a flap of his wing, Fu sends a tendril straight at Chronoa, with Xeno Goku quickly intercepting by taking the blow himself. Promising Chronoa that he won't miss a second time, Fu attacks again, only for Goku to grab the tendril and rip it off. The energy at first begins to overwhelm him, but just like Vegeta with Kanba's evil energy, Goku manages to make it his own by harnessing the Universe Tree's power in a fashion similar to gathering energy for a Spirit Bomb to gain a new form: Universal Super Saiyan Blue.

Upon realizing that Goku has managed to control the Universe Tree's power, Fu says that he has had enough, and decides to destroy the entire universe. The two engage in an epic battle, climaxing with a powerful beam struggle that ends with Goku's Universal God Kamehameha managing to overpower Fu's energy beam. A stunned Fu says a mortal like Goku can't have so much potential. These prove to be his last words before he is completely disintegrated by the Universal God Kamehameha.

Worn out from his battle with Fu, Goku reverts to his base form. Xeno Goku realizes that Fu is dead, and a rift opens, releasing Vegeta, Xeno Vegeta, and Tokitoki. Hearts asks Goku if Fu is no more, and Goku confirms this. In turn, he asks about Broly, with Hearts replying that Broly has vanished. Chronoa also notices that the Universe Tree has used up all of its power, and she has Tokitoki lend her his power to restore Universe 7. He does so, and everything begins to be enveloped in a flash of white light.

Meanwhile, the Warrior in Black meets up with a mysterious woman with blue hair and pale blue skin, informing her that Fu is dead and his universe has been destroyed. She asks if he was able to save her son, and he wordlessly states that he has. The woman then declares that it is time for the gods to reclaim what is rightfully theirs, as she turns to reveal not only an army of fighters identical to the Warrior in Black... but that she is also a Supreme Kai of Time.

Rogue Supreme Kai of Time Arc

In the Time Nest, the former Supreme Kai of Time Agios stands before Chronoa, telling her that she has been relieved of her position as the Supreme Kai of Time and that the Time Scrolls will now be taken from her. Chronoa vows to stop her but is suddenly grabbed from behind by several fighters dressed like the Warrior in Black and teleported to an unknown location as Agios smiles evilly.

Meanwhile on Earth, Goku enjoys a nap during his farm work. Suddenly, he is approached by a mysterious being whose face is obscured by the hood he's wearing. After introducing himself, he tells Goku that he has been invited to the "Super Space-Time Tournament", a tournament to determine the strongest fighter in all of existence. Excited by the prospect, Goku quickly accepts and is transported to the tournament's location.

Once there, Goku reunites with Gohan, Piccolo, and Vegeta whilst also coming across Hit and Jiren, with the latter stating that he is only here for training purposes. Goku is then approached by none other than Yamcha, who has also been invited to the tournament. The mysterious being who brought Goku to the tournament then re-appears and speaks with all of the competitors. He explains that the seven fighters on each cog wheel are all part of one team, making up twelve teams for a total of eighty-four fighters and that the first round of the tournament will be a survival battle. He further explains that at the battle stage they will soon be transported to, there are three flying fairy warriors, with victory being assured by either catching them or defeating all the members of the other teams. With a time limit of 50 takks (24 minutes in Earth time), the tournament is given an immediate start and the participants are teleported to the battlefield.

On the battlefield made up of various types of terrain from lush forests to icy plains and rocky deserts, the team members are separated from one another. Goku quickly crosses paths with Xeno Goku, who is elated at the prospect of fighting his main timeline counterpart again. However, before the two Gokus can fight, they are ambushed by another team.

Elsewhere, Xeno Trunks meets Tapion, who remembers him as a child from their previous encounter, though Xeno Trunks does not remember him in return. Tapion encourages Xeno Trunks to show off his power and, in response, he transforms into his Super Saiyan God form. A multitude of battles begins to take place, as Jiren faces off against Broly, Hit battles Hirudegarn and Kid Buu take on Janemba. With 30 takks remaining, Yamcha flees from Mecha-Frieza as Agios is seen incinerating one of the Time Scrolls.

With only seven minutes remaining in the Super Space-Time Tournament's first stage, Goku and Xeno Goku easily take down the team that attempted to ambush them as Goku gets excited at the chance to face off against his alternate timeline counterpart. Goku transforms into a Super Saiyan Blue, with Xeno Goku going Super Saiyan 4 in response, and the two begin their rematch.

Elsewhere, having hidden from Mecha-Frieza, Yamcha plucks up the courage to break from cover and takes out one of the Time Fairies in the process. Picking it up, Yamcha and his team succeed in completing the first stage of the tournament and are transported back to the main hall. They are soon joined by Xeno Goku and his team, as well as Hearts and his team. Deducing that there were only three Time Fairies in total, they surmise that all of the other teams have been eliminated.

Just then, the Warrior in Black appears, accompanied by a group of fighters dressed identically to him. A fighter with one arm informs the three winning teams that the eliminated teams have been erased from existence, along with their entire timelines. He then tries to announce the second round of the tournament, only for Xeno Trunks to fly into a rage and transform into a Super Saiyan God, demanding that the one-armed fighter reveal the location of Agios so that he can retrieve the Scroll of Eternity. The two battle, with the one-armed fighter, quickly gaining the edge over Xeno Trunks as Goku and Piccolo notice that his movements appear to be familiar. The two fighters launch powerful attacks at each other but, before they collide, they suddenly stop.

Agios then makes her appearance, praising the two warriors' strength before sending their attacks away through a space-time rift. Xeno Trunks tells everyone that she is the former Supreme Kai of Time, as Agios then reveals that she is the individual who organized the Super Space-Time Tournament.

Agios tells the remaining participants that she cannot allow the timelines to continue multiplying. She explains that they must continue to fight in the tournament, as the losing teams will be erased along with their entire timelines, proceeding to incinerate another Time Scroll right in front of them.

All of the participants are teleported away to different locations for the beginning of the second round. Gohan and Piccolo are sent to a planet that resembles New Namek, along with King Cold, Frieza, Frost, Bergamo, Lakasei, and Rasin. Gohan recognizes them as opponents they've faced in the past, with Piccolo deducing that they must be from alternate timelines. One of the Warriors in Black then appears and removes his cloak to reveal himself as an alternate version of Piccolo, calling himself "Piccolo Black".

In another location filled with many glass spikes, Vegeta, Hit, Dr. Wheelo, Basil, Murichim, and Yamcha, who wonders why he is surrounded by such an unfriendly group, are pitted against a female Warrior in Black, currently in possession of a Time Fairy. She tells the group that whichever team can steal it from her will be declared the winner of the second round. Removing her cloak and revealing that she is a member of the long-extinct Glass Tribe, she summons a handful of glass warriors who appear from the ground. Vegeta declares that these "fodder" enemies will be no match for him and charges straight at them, transforming into a Super Saiyan Blue with Hit right behind him.

In a ruined West City on Earth, Xeno Trunks, still in his Super Saiyan God form, battles the one-armed Warrior in Black. Xeno Trunks realizes who he is as the warrior removes his cloak to reveal that he is an alternate version of Future Gohan, who goes by the name "Gohan Black". Gohan Black explains that, in his timeline, Bulma and Trunks were both murdered by the Red Ribbon androids when they attacked Capsule Corporation. With Bulma's time machine being destroyed as well, Gohan Black gave up all hope of saving his timeline as the androids continued to run rampant. He then reveals that Agios has used the Dark Dragon Balls to grant him incredible strength, before transforming into a Super Saiyan and declaring that he'll make Xeno Trunks suffer just like he did. Gohan Black kicks Xeno Trunks into a building and begins to power up a one-handed Kamehameha, while Xeno Trunks charges a Masenko. The two engage in a beam struggle and, with a mighty push, Xeno Trunks prevails. Gohan Black reverts to his base form, falling to his knees and crying as Xeno Trunks tells him that his strength came from never giving up on saving his timeline as Gohan Black did.

On Planet Vegeta, Goku, who is teamed up with Jiren, transforms into Ultra Instinct "Omen" in preparation for his battle with the original Warrior in Black, who goes Super Saiyan 3 and reveals himself to be an alternate version of Bardock known as "Bardock Black".

Goku and Jiren stand together against Bardock Black, who removes his cloak after realizing that his opponents have figured out his true identity. Eager to see the power that has been granted to him by Dark Shenron, Bardock Black transforms into a Super Saiyan 3. In response, Goku goes into Ultra Instinct "Omen" and asks Jiren if he can fight alone, due to his opponent being a fellow Saiyan. Bardock Black compliments Goku's power and even calls him by his original name "Kakarot", though when asked how he knows this fact, he simply states that he abandoned his past to pursue the goal of achieving ultimate power. The two fly towards each other as they begin to battle.

Elsewhere, Hit battles the female Warrior in Black while Vegeta and Yamcha battle her glass warriors. Though Yamcha is overwhelmed and seemingly defeated, Vegeta soon destroys the glass warriors opposing him after going into Super Saiyan Blue "Evolution" and using a supercharged Final Flash. Meanwhile, Hit manages to overpower the female Warrior, citing that the gap in their power is too large, and tries to kill her by hitting one of her vital points. Before Hit can do so, he spots a blast coming his way, which he promptly slaps aside, allowing the female Warrior to escape his grasp.

As it turns out, the blast came from none other than Yamcha, who claims that, enemy or not, he cannot let Hit kill the female Warrior. Hit decides to kill Yamcha for interfering and fires a blast straight at his heart but, much to his surprise, he survives thanks to the female Warrior creating a ki barrier to block the attack. Touched by Yamcha's kindness, the Female Warrior vows that she will not let anyone hurt her "beloved", which enrages Hit and shocks Vegeta.

Meanwhile, Bardock Black decides to use his full power to end the fight and charges up a Final Impact. Goku responds in kind with a Divine Kamehameha which, after some struggle, pushes back Bardock Black's blast and defeats him. Before falling unconscious, Bardock Black thanks Goku for giving him a good fight, saying that a fellow low-class Saiyan like Goku achieving such immense power gives him hope that he too can become stronger. Goku powers down and smiles at the alternate version of his father.

At an unknown location, Chronoa confronts Agios and demands that she return the Time Scrolls, to which Agios responds by laughing at Chronoa and daring her to take them by force.

Bad Qualities

  1. The idea of turning a videogame into an anime, while a good idea on paper, ends up being ruined by many things:
    • The game itself is not as well-known in the West, so if the Western audience had not watched the advert on the internet or played the Xenoverse games, they would be confused about what is going on in the story.
    • Unlike Transformers, when they focus on the story when making a show, Super Dragon Ball Heroes focuses on telling the audience to buy the game and, to hammer the nail in even further, they play an advert at the end of each episode. In short, it's a Dragon Ball Heroes toy commercial turned into a 6-8 minute episode.
    • The game, while still popular, is not as popular as it was back in 2014-16 when the game (known back then as simply Dragon Ball Heroes) had lots of support.
  2. Another problem with this show is that Akira Toriyama is not involved in this show, much like Dragon Ball GT, which led to the show lacking any charm that Dragon Ball Super has.
  3. False Advertising to the Extreme: There are so many to list that it makes you think "How did they not get sued for this?".
    • On the front of the poster for the Prison Planet Arc, Trunks is the main focus of it. You'd think that, with Trunks at the front, he will have a major role. However, he's merely a bit-player.
      • The same reason can be said about the Universal Conflict Arc and the Universal Creation Arc.
    • In the first opening of the Universal Conflict Arc, it shows Kefla, who does not appear in the promo anime at all.
  4. The show turns most of the Dragon Ball villains into cliched "villains of the week", with nothing to make them stand out from any other villains in the Dragon Ball franchise.
    • Kanba is a Broly rip-off who wants to kill everyone, with the only thing that stands out is his ability to turn people into his brainwashed minions.
    • Hearts is just a Zamasu wannabe with Dio Brando's personality. His plan is inconsistent, as the writers changed his goal from wanting to kill Lord Zeno to creating a new universe. Plus, he does not get going with the plan, as he just fights enemies to get a new form and throws cubes at everyone, which makes it hard to take him seriously. This also wasted the talent of Takehito Koyasu, who did the voice of Hearts.
      • Hearts' "Ultimate Godslayer" Form is just bad, as it looks something out of MaSTAR Media and it goes against Toriyama and Toyotarō's "Keep It Simple" design philosophy.
    • Most of the Hearts' henchmen (apart from the Tuffle Twins) are just generic and only serve to promote the cards and nothing else.
  5. Like Dragon Ball GT, most of the characters have been sidelined in favor of Goku and Vegeta. It gets to the point that it's sometimes called "The Goku and Vegeta Show".
  6. The animation, while a decent effort, is rather stiff and uses the same frames over and over again due to Tadayoshi Yamamuro's storyboarding.
  7. The story drags on for way too long, as no new episodes will be released until a month later.
  8. Most of the character who is strong in Dragon Ball Super and/or the Dragon Ball Heroes adverts like Jiren and Hit end up doing nothing or getting beaten up when the plot demands it.
    • This wasted characters like Cabba, Caulifla, Kale, Future Trunks, Cooler, and Zamasu.
  9. There are cases where plot points are dropped and never used again or reappear out of nowhere just to promote the card game.
    • In the Prison Planet Arc, Xeno Goku appears in one episode and then fades out afterward in the next episode, only to reappear 3 episodes later just to promote the card of Super Saiyan 4 Vegetto.
    • Golden Cooler was just used to snap Goku out of his berserk state and just watched the battle in the background after that.
    • Grand Priest Goku was set up to be a big deal in the Universal Conflict Arc, only to be beaten by one of the Hearts' henchmen and never mentioned again, along with Goku using Ultra Instinct "Omen" at will.
    • The Goku vs. Beerus fight was set up at the start of the third arc, only for it to be dropped afterward in favor of the Z-Fighters battling Fu again.
  10. The show gives fanservice but does not do anything with it.
  11. The 6-8 minute runtime wasn't the best way to execute a full episode.
  12. Similar to the Transformers franchise with Transformers: Cybertron, this show has so many confusing plot points and/or continuity issues that it's more of a reboot than a sequel to Dragon Ball Super. If a person who's watched Dragon Ball Super just goes into the End of 'Z' Saga, nothing of value will be lost.

Good Qualities

  1. The show itself has great ideas and it could've worked better if it was a 15-20 minute show instead of the 6-8 minute promotional anime we got.
  2. The Tuffle Twins (Oren and Kamin) are the standouts of the Universal Conflict Arc, as they're eviler versions of Baby from Dragon Ball GT.
  3. The manga version is better, but it's Japan-exclusive.
  4. Episodes 12 and 13 of the anime have the best animation and storyboarding, as Naotoshi Shida and Shintaro Mura animated those parts.
  5. Most of the action scenes are intense and good, like Gogeta, Jiren, and Hit vs. Ultimate Hearts.
  6. We at least get to see Goku's Ultra Instinct forms again in the series.
  7. The voice acting, as always, is still good.
  8. The openings are decent.
  9. Hearts wanting to get rid of the gods does make him a bit sympathetic, given how often the gods have abused their power, terrorized helpless mortals for petty reasons, etc., in the franchise.
    • He accepts his demise gracefully (while most Dragon Ball villains go out kicking and screaming), thanking Gogeta for a great fight and deeming his strength a symbol of mortals' true potential. This earns Hearts another likability point but doesn't give him a Half-Baked Redemption.
  10. The animation has improved over time, which is especially noticeable in the "Rogue Supreme Kai of Time" arc.
