NOTE 2: Do not put in the Bad Qualities section, that Encontro com Fátima Bernardes killed and permanently cancelled TV Globinho in 2012, which is not true, since the program continued to air only in Saturdays until 2015 and there were exhibitions on Globo Internacional until 2017 showing only Brazilian cartoons.

TV Globinho was a Brazilian children's television program produced and aired on Rede Globo. The program was aired on the channel's mornings between July 3, 2000 and August 1, 2015. It focused on showing cartoons. It was initially shown as a sketch within the Bambuluá with Angélica program from Monday to Friday; shortly after the end of the program and with high ratings, it became an independent program and started airing from Monday to Saturday at 9:30 AM, then broadcast only on Saturdays from June 23, 2012, to give place to the program Encontro com Fátima Bernardes. Many famous hosts went through the program such as: Marina Ruy Barbosa, Letícia Colin, Geovanna Tominaga, Fernanda Pontes, Flávia Rubim, Mariah Rocha, Letícia Navas, Emílio Eric Surita and Paulo Mathias Jr. TV Globinho was responsible for bringing to Brazil some of the successful cartoons and series such as: Dragon Ball Z, Digimon, Jackie Chan Adventures, Yu-Gi-Oh!, Beyblade, Spider-Man, Power Rangers, as well as classic cartoons like Mickey and Donald, Dungeons & Dragons and The Simpsons.

Why It Rocked

  1. The name of the block is a reference to the 1972 children's show Globinho, one of the first and most memorable children's shows not only on Globo, but in the entire history of Brazilian TV.
  2. It aired a lot of great and memorable cartoons, animes and sitcoms from Nickelodeon, DreamWorks, Disney Channel, Jetix/Disney XD, Disney, Marathon Media, Fox, Sony, Universal (Woody Woodpecker), Warner Bros. (Bugs Bunny), Marvel, 4Kids and much more.
  3. It was responsible for helping several cartoons and animes to become popular in Brazil, with examples like Digimon Adventure, Digimon Tamers, Monster Rancher, Arthur, Hamtaro, Cardcaptor Sakura, Medabots, Yu-Gi-Oh! Duel Monsters, Yu-Gi-Oh! GX, Jackie Chan Adventures, Totally Spies!, Shaman King, The Adventures of Jimmy Neutron, Boy Genius, Dragon Ball Z, Pokémon, TMNT 2003, Astro Boy 2003, InuYasha, Beyblade, Lilo & Stitch: The Series, SpongeBob Squarepants, The Fairly OddParents, Danny Phantom, American Dragon: Jake Long, W.I.T.C.H., Kim Possible, Avatar: The Last Airbender, Yin Yang Yo!, MegaMan: NT Warrior, Sonic X, Zatch Bell!, Brandy & Mr. Whiskers, The Spectacular Spider-Man, Star Wars: The Clone Wars, Phineas and Ferb, Combo Niños, Bakugan: Battle Brawlers, Gormiti, The Penguins Of Madagascar, Iron Man: Armored Adventures, The Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, Kung Fu Panda: Legends of Awesomeness, Motorcity, League of Super Evil, DreamWorks Dragons and even live-action series like Power Rangers, Kamen Rider: Dragon Knight, Kenan & Kel, Drake & Josh, ICarly, Wizards of Waverly Place, The Suite Life on Deck and Aaron Stone.
  4. Also rescued classic cartoons like DuckTales, Chip 'n Dale Rescue Rangers, Darkwing Duck, The Lion King’s Timon and Pumbaa, The Little Mermaid, Aladdin: the Series, Hercules, Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, The Legend of Tarzan, Gargoyles, the classic Mickey, Donald and Goofy cartoons, Woody Woodpecker, Bugs Bunny, Dungeons and Dragons, Spider-Man: The Animated Series, X-Men: The Animated Series and others.
  5. The block achieved achievements that no American channel could do: broadcast SpongeBob and Mickey together on the same channel.
  6. The block also achieved the unique feat of debuting Spider-Man: The New Animated Series, a series originally exclusive to MTV!
  7. It had a great variety of good hosts, especially Geovanna Tominaga, who presented the program for longest six years.
  8. Also aired good movies, either live-action or animated.
  9. Nice and catchy intros (despite the 2014-2015 intro was shortened).
  10. The backgrounds of the program were awesome, especially with the ones with the characters of the cartoons were aired in the program at that time.
  11. Is the most memorable kids program in the history of Rede Globo's children's programming, as well as the one of the memorable kids programs of Brazilian television ever, that even to this day, many people wants the block be brought back.

Bad Qualities

  1. Some of the anime that were aired on the program, like InuYasha and Shaman King did not last long on the program, due to their content involving spirits, inappropriate things and violence, mainly because of the audience, who are children.
  2. Aired some bad cartoons and series, like Dragon Ball GT, George of the Jungle (2007), The Amazing Spiez!, Jonas, The Super Hero Squad Show, the animated series of Monsters vs. Aliens, and the seasons 6-8 of SpongeBob SquarePants.
  3. Almost of the cartoons, anime and sitcoms were aired on TV Globinho, had their intros and end credits shortened, as usual with the imported programs and films Rede Globo air in their channel since 1984.
  4. Many of the new cartoons that debuted on the block in the final years were not as good and memorable as those that aired in previous years.

Trivia

  • The program before being only aired on Saturdays in its last years (2012-2015), it has previously been aired only on Saturdays between 2005-2007, due to TV Xuxa having taken the place of the block from Monday to Friday in that time.
  • It spawned a board game made by Brazilian toy and board game company, Grow in the first years of the block in early 2000s.
