Tangled: The Series (also known as Rapunzel's Tangled Adventure in the second season) is an American animated television series developed by Chris Sonnenburg and Shane Pigmore and produced by Disney Television Animation that premiered on Disney Channel. The series is based on the film Tangled.
Why It Rocks
- This series is 100% faithful to the source material, especially the movie ones. Even Mother Gothel makes a brief appearance in one episode of Rapunzel’s Dream.
- This series is a continuation of the original movie, and this story is different than the movie when Rapunzel and the Gang fight against Zhan Tiri and numerous evil threats.
- This show uses traditional animation from Mercury Filmworks instead of CGI, which is a refreshing choice.
- Also, the color palette of this series is good.
- Great and catchy songs, such as "Wind in My Hair" (the show's theme song) and "Ready As I'll Ever Be".
- The original voice actors from the movie reprise their roles for this show.
- Speaking of which, the voice acting is still very good.
- The fighting scenes are satisfying to look at, for example: the fight between Rapunzel and Cassandra is considered the best fight ever made in Disney TV show history.
- Has a good mix between fun slice-of-life episodes and dramatic with story-driven narrative.
- Has one of the most surprising face-heel turns in animation history.
- Offers a decent explanation for why Rapunzel has her long hair back: It grows back when Rapunzel and her handmaid, Cassandra, discover some mystical rocks with magical properties during a secret adventure.
- The pilot movie Tangled: Before Ever After was good.
- Amazing and usually pretty complex villains.
- The episode, Plus Est En Vous was a great way to end the series, as Rapunzel finally defeats Zhan Tiri, Cassandra redeems herself and everyone gets their happily ever after.
- Many of the characters from the original film are still lovable and endearing for many audiences, with some traits of their personalities being explored more and the four main characters from the original film (Rapunzel, Eugene, Maximus, and Pascal) still feel like a family with each other and aren't flanderized at all, making them the same relatable cast of characters from the original film but more fleshed out and mature.
Bad Qualities
- Sometimes it can be cliched.
- This disturbing dark scene, which is not ok for kids.
- While not bad, the animation can fall into the mediocre level at times.
- The Baron's daughter Staylan was favored by the writers as they refuse to have her fight or get physically harmed and then in her second appearance was forced redeemed, creating a double standard refusing to fight women.
- "Fitzherbert P.I.", "Challenge of the Brave", "Cassandra v. Eugene", "Max's Enemy", "A Tale of Two Sisters" and "Once a Handmaiden..." is most likely considered the weakest episodes in the series.
- Plus, Est En Vous tries to contradict Corona being Germany by placing it near France on a map, even though Germany was the main inspiration (if names like Rapunzel, Gothel, Frederick, and Eugene Fitzherbert haven't made it obvious).
