"Teen Titans Roar" is the fifty-second episode of the fifth season of Teen Titans Go!, serving as a crossover episode with ThunderCats Roar, and the two-hundred-sixty-first overall episode of the series. It is the second Teen Titans Go! crossover episode with the first being with The Powerpuff Girls (2016) called "TTG vs. PPG".
Summary
The Titans are outraged when their favorite cartoon is rebooted so they come up with a plan to get this new show off the air.
Why It Should've Been Beaten By Bugs Bunny Instead
- This episode is the sixth episode centers on its only intention being to mock the critics of a particular show, or fans of the original source material with legitimate criticisms of not liking the reboot. This proves how incredibly desperate they are for attention while not taking kindly to criticism. It not only pokes fun at anyone who complains about ThunderCats Roar for lacking the dark and serious tones from the original show, but it also mocks the 2011 reboot which, despite being greatly enjoyed by fans of the original series, was canceled due to poor toy sales and low ratings.
- Hypocrisy:
- The Teen Titans complain about how the ThunderCats were ruined despite realizing that they are also a bad spin-off of a good show.
- Raven calls Starfire out for using the "It's made for kids" excuse, even though the show itself uses the excuse a lot.
- Why would Beast Boy call out the art style of ThunderCats Roar and the fact that it was seemingly done by vegetarians when he is one himself?
- To add insult to the wound, there is literally a corpse of Panthro at the end of the episode to disrespectfully indicate the death of the character's voice actor, Earle Hyman, who died of stomach cancer in 2017.
- This episode proves a lot about how pathetic both shows really are. At the beginning of the episode, all of the flaws of ThunderCats Roar (that are even comparable to that of Teen Titans Go!) are stated completely. But even though this show notices its flaws, it never does anything to fix them. Instead, they use the acknowledgment of its flaws to completely use so much work and effort to lash out at the criticism that this show gets. They even go so far as to directly point out that whoever denies the series being a great successor to the original is a "poop mouth with poop opinions."
- The plot is a horribly-executed reflection on how fans of a franchise can be really hysterical when a series is rebooted, revamped for a new format, or gets a spin-off when not all of them are like this. There are a lot of reboots and spin-offs that manage to be great for being faithful to their source material with welcoming changes to make them stand out. Not only that, but they can even manage to be made even better than what the source material originally has. Have they neglected their own 2011 reboot of ThunderCats so much that they are flat-out ignoring what it gave us and its reception for that matter or they don't care?
- This episode's title is, in fact, literally a jab at ThunderCats Roar, generally lampooning the backlash that the show received upon announcement, basically summarizing how pathetic the developers are to mock the fans and critics of the source material, and what this episode is in a nutshell.
- While it is OK for Starfire to actually like this show, she basically tries to force the other Titans to like it.
- The arguments made in favor of ThunderCats Roar fall flat since it proved to be a rating bomb and was unceremoniously canceled after a single season making this entire episode pointless.
Redeeming Qualities
- Despite being hypocritical, the phrase "Oh, so just because it’s for kids means it doesn’t have to be any good? Kids are a lot smarter than you give them credit for!" is correct.
- The Bugs Bunny easter egg is amazing and this is one of the few good moments that appeared in this episode.
- This episode has a fair point of how ThunderCats Roar was hated as it was considered as a flop and makes Teen Titans Go! a decent and mediocre show.
