The Adventures of Kid Danger is a short-lived American animated television series created by Dan Schneider. The series first aired on Nickelodeon as a sneak peek on January 15, 2018, before its official premiere on January 19, 2018. Based on Henry Danger, it features the voices of Jace Norman, Cooper Barnes, Michael D. Cohen, Riele Downs, Sean Ryan Fox, Ella Anderson, and Jeffrey Nicholas Brown. It ran for only a couple of months before being cancelled, on June 14, 2018, after Dan Schneider's departure from Nickelodeon, two months before the series ended, making it the shortest lived show created by Dan Schneider, and even more so than Sam & Cat.

Plot

Henry Hart is a regular kid in eight grade who has a not-so-regular, part-time gig as Kid Danger. As a sidekick-in-training to Captain Man, Henry must keep the secret from his best friends, Charlotte and Jasper, and his little sister, Piper. Henry's new animated exploits unfold in The Adventures of Kid Danger, where he battles bizarre criminals and villains. Henry goes on all new adventures in all new areas of the superheroes' headquarters for the very first time.

Why It Doesn't Feel Good

  1. The primary issue with this series is its lackluster and ineffective animated adaptation of Henry Danger, which was subpar in its initial three seasons, but even worse. To exacerbate the situation, it emerged just as the original series was starting to improve in quality.
  2. The episodes and storylines are incredibly dull, senseless, lazily written and tedious, which is truly unfortunate given the potential to explore narratives that couldn't be achieved in its live-action counterpart.
    • In the pilot episode, the heroes inadvertently created the "villain of the episode." Indeed, it was an accident.
    • In "Fish Talker," Captain Man continues to consume sushi, despite discovering it is made from human, an act that equates to cannibalism.
    • In one episode, the characters visit a tribe worships a demigod with very large feet, which is obviously a jab at Schneider's infamous foot fetish.
  3. Similar to the first three seasons of its live-action version, the humor comes across as unfunny, low-quality, cringe-inducing, and contrived.
    • An episode humorously references the notorious mix-up that occurred during the Oscars' Moonlight incident.
    • An episode mentions the now-dated "Spooderman" meme.
    • In "Fails," Schwoz attempts to render Invisible Brad visible using a device, but only succeeds in making Brad's belly appear. This results in a humorously poor joke that is so bad, it's easy to laugh at and overlook the fact that it's not genuinely amusing.
    • It features some unfunny, brainless, and gross running jokes, such as the characters overusing the word "wieners" in the episode "Texas Wieners", and even one of Captain Man having an obsession with Japanese toilets.
  4. The animation quality is extremely poor, remarkably stiff, and resembles something discarded from a Neopets website, which is inexcusable given that the motion comic for Henry Danger boasts superior animation. Additionally, the show experiences frequent frame rate drops.
    • To exacerbate the situation, the show is produced by Powerhouse Animation, the same studio responsible for Castlevania, inviting comparisons between the two in terms of animation quality. Furthermore, Saerom Animation also contributed to the animation work.
    • Some character designs are reused, which seems like a shortcut taken by the animators. For instance, in "Popcorn Monster," during the bus scenes, there are two versions of the same little girl with pigtails; however, one version has a different skin tone and hair color.
  5. Lackluster voice acting, particularly from Jace Norman and Cooper Barnes, which is disappointing given their commendable portrayal of their characters in the original series.
  6. No character development, unlike the original series.
  7. Charlotte and Jasper have been dumbed down into punching-bag type characters, as they are always abused, when they don't deserve it. Ray/Captain Man, Henry/Kid Danger, and Schwoz, have also been turned into jerks, with the personality of Patrick Star from SpongeBob SquarePants. Other characters, such as Larvin also get treated like punching-bag type characters. Even Henry gets treated like a punching bag in "Flying Spiders".
  8. Like the original series, some villains are terrible or just plain ridiculous, such as Daddy Longlegs and Wahoo Punch Bro.
  9. The backgrounds have Dan Schneider's name placed everywhere.
  10. As always with bad TV shows, it has some gross-out humor shoehorned into it in an attempt to be comedically effective.
  11. Like in Henry Danger, Kid Danger and Captain Man do some gross stuff, and almost never get their comeuppance for it.
  12. The episode "Popcorn Monster" features a random cameo from Doc Brown and Marty McFly from Back to the Future, and it isn't even a good cameo either. Not to mention this had already been done in its parent show's episode, "Ox Pox".
  13. Combined with the firing of Dan Schneider that year, this show effectively put an end to his entire namesake Schneider's Bakery line of sitcoms.
  14. Just like the spin-off Danger Force most of the dialogues in this show are incredibly annoying.
  15. This show is so poor in quality that it makes the first three seasons of the original series seem good, or at least decent by comparison.

Redeeming Qualities

  1. Unlike Henry Danger, this show has no laugh track, because it's the only Dan Schneider show that's not a sitcom this time. It's also the only animated show he made so far, but it's a cartoon and most cartoons don’t have laugh tracks in them.
  2. Catchy theme song.
  3. The art style can also be nice to look at. Plus, at least the animators tried their best to make the character designs look faithful to the original series. Even if Henry's hair from season 2 is a part of his design, even if this show premiered during season 4.
  4. Drake and Josh as their cartoon counterparts made a cameo appearance in one episode.
  5. It had one episode where Charlotte has humming the iCarly theme song while she was using the bathroom.
  6. Fortunately, the series is regarded as non-canon in relation to its live-action counterpart.
  7. Despite the obnoxious voice acting, there are some that are actually good, such as Dee Bradley Baker, Candi Milo, and Grey DeLisle-Griffin.

Reception

The Adventures of Kid Danger was met with overwhelmingly negative reviews from critics, audiences, and fans of Henry Danger alike. The show currently holds a 2.5 rating on IMDb, and is considered to be one of the worst Nickelodeon animated shows ever made. It's currently the only Nicktoon, not counting "Ren & Stimpy "Adult Party Cartoon"" to be "so bad, it’s horrible" by TV Tropes, which has very high standards at to what qualifies as truly horrible.

Trivia

  • Nickelodeon made the show, because the actors from Henry Danger were gradually aging.
  • This is the first and only Dan Schneider show to be animated.
