The Adventures of Rocky and Bullwinkle and Friends is a multi-platform video game based on the animated anthology series of the same name.
Plot
Three artifacts are stolen from a museum. It is up to Rocky and Bullwinkle to get them back.
Bull Fucking Shit Qualities
- While it's an improvement over the NES version, it still isn't a good game due to lot of flaws preventing it from being good, which explain the pointers below.
- Poor controls, they are responsive enough but the problem is that much like The Ren & Stimpy Show: Buckeroo$! on the SNES, the controls are clunky, stiff and hard to control overall, causing a lot of cheap deaths just because of that, sometime the controls can also be unresponsive despite for the most parts being responsive.
- While not ear bleeding, the soundtrack is quite poor because it is extremely repetitive and is sometime just a 10 second loop music that restart over and over.
- The difficulty is frustrating and even fake, since the difficulty is only because of how sluggish the controls are and also because of the poor hit-detection.
- Not to mention that even the platforming is frustratingly difficult because due to the sluggish controls and the poor camera, you can easily fall and think that there's ground where in reality, it's a pit, this happen a lot in stage 1-1.
- Terrible hit-detection.
- Your attacks is absolutely useless, since when you use it, it doesn't even attack the enemies and they doesn't get hit, also it is delayed, this only make the game worst and harder than it's already is.
- Poor level design, most of the levels rehash their designs and do pretty much the same, such as platforming sections, or even obstacles, which end up being repetitive.
- While longer than the NES version, it still pretty short overall, much like other Imagineering games on the console.
- Awful framerate, much like the NES version.
- The sound effects are once again bad and are even recycled from the other Imagineering games on the Game Boy and NES, which is lazy.
- False advertising: The boxart, which is also used as the cover of the main TV series, shows Bullwinkle wearing a sweater with a yellow "W", but Bullwinkle does not wear a said sweater in the game, much like the other versions.
Good Qualities
- It is longer than the NES version, lasting 30 minutes, despite still being quite short.
- The game can still be fun to play at times despite that the controls are sluggish and stiff, although it is frustrating.
- This game is still way better than the NES version, which was even worse.
- Good graphics for a Game Boy game, since they are faithful to the show art style, and the sprites are pretty decent overall, the title screen also look impressive for a Game Boy game and is not lazy like the NES version title screen and graphics.
Reception
The game received mixed to negative reviews by critics and players, although they consider it to be a major improvement over the NES version.
