The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 is an American animated series produced by Bruce and Reed Shelly based on the Super Mario franchise by Nintendo. It is the second animated series to be based on the franchise after The Super Mario Bros. Super Show! and preceding Super Mario World.

Why The Show's Hot on Our Tail

  1. Very faithful to the original video game, especially with Super Mario Bros. 3.
  2. The animation, while still filled with errors, is very good and an improvement over The Super Mario Bros. Super Show.
  3. Decent voice acting. Walker Boone and Tony Rosato are good replacements for Captain Lou Albano and Danny Wells, to voice Mario and Luigi, respectively.
    • Tracey Moore voiced Princess Toadstool very nicely.
    • John Stocker reprised his role as Toad, and this is where Toad’s voice started to improve and became less annoying.
    • Harvey Atkin reprised his role as King Koopa, and he still voiced the character greatly.
    • James Rankin, Dan Hennessey, Tabitha St. Germain (Paulina Gillis), Gordon Masten, Michael Stark, Stuart Stone, and Tara Charendoff all voiced the Koopalings good.
      • Tabitha St. Germain (Paulina Gillis) did a decent job voicing Kootie Pie except when she’s whining.
  4. Great characters, just like the previous Mario show, most notably Mario and Luigi.
    • Princess Toadstool is still an active character who fights back instead of being a damsel in distress who has be to saved all the time. She still gets kidnapped, but does manage to fight back sometimes.
    • Toad manages to become more likable thanks to his improved voice. Also, he’s a lot better portrayed than he was in the first Super Mario show, and he even allowed his friends to live in his house, which was very nice of him.
    • King Koopa is still a great and hilarious villain.
    • The Koopalings all have unique personalities that make them stand out from each other, and are just as great and hilarious as their dad, King Koopa, himself.
  5. The first appearance of the Koopalings in the Mario DiC cartoons, and they managed to be great characters.
  6. Has some catchy songs with lyrics, like "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", and "Super Plumber".
  7. Walker Boone and Tony Rosato are good replacements for Captain Lou Albano and Danny Wells.
  8. Features a variety of remixed music from Super Mario Bros.3, for example, the end credits music of the original game sometimes plays during the ending of an episode, and adds an ending note when the episode ends.
  9. More areas and backgrounds are shown that are not the Mushroom Kingdom and they are: Brooklyn, where the Mario Bros are originally from, and several contents that are based on off the real world.
    • This includes people that aren't the Mushroom people nor monsters.
  10. It spawned a successor to another sequel series titled Super Mario World, based off the games in order.
  11. The show spawned the careers of several prolific voice actors and voice actresses.

Bad Qualities

  1. The Koopalings' names are completely wrong.
    • Namely, Larry became Cheatsy, Morton became Big Mouth, Wendy became Kootie Pie, Iggy became Hop, Roy became Bully, Lemmy became Hip, and Ludwig became Kooky Von Koopa.
  2. While the animation is better, the show still suffers from plenty of animation errors, especially early on (one of the most noticeable is Luigi in Mario’s clothing in the first episode).
  3. While Mario's voice (Walker Boone) in this cartoon is good, sounds too gruff, compared to what we heard in Super Show with Captain Lou Albano.
  4. Some bad episodes, such as "Oh Brother!", "Life's Ruff", 7 Continents for 7 Koopas, and "Kootie Pie Rocks" (depending on your view). The latter episode featured Milli Vanilli, a duo who only lip-synced while Charles, John and Brad sang.
  5. There are some annoying moments at times:
    • Toad still has a few annoying moments, like complaining about always being left behind in the adventures. Thankfully, though, it’s not too many unlike the first Super Mario show.
    • Kootie Pie's whining can sometimes get on your nerves.
  6. Some scenes can be innapropriate for a kids show.
    • The lowest rated episode of the show, Life's Ruff, has a scene where luigi (as a dog) gets his butt bitten by a lakitu's spiny.

Reception

The show currently has a 7/10 on IMDb.

Trivia

  • Tabitha St. Germain and Tara Charendoff (Tara Strong) have worked on this show as Kootie Pie (Wendy O. Koopa), Hip (Lemmy Koopa) and Hop (Iggy Koopa).
  • This show spawned the very first YTP. It was known as "The Adventures of Super Mario Bros. 3 REMIXED!!!" and was uploaded onto SheezyArt in 2004 by user SuperYoshi. It was then uploaded to YouTube by the same person in 2006 under the name "I'D SAY HE'S HOT ON OUR TAIL".
