Synopsis
In Cinco de Mayo, Robin learns that avocados are a superfood that give you superpowers.
Por qué no es un dios (Why It's not a God)
- Bad title: The title is named after the titular villain/antagonist of the episode. It's uncreative and shallow; are the writers even trying at their jobs anymore?
- First, this episode is extremely offensive to those who are of Mexican descent or are Hispanic. Similar to Hot Salad Water, in which the latter is also offensive to British people.
- The joke about Robin getting annoyed with and threatening to beat up Beast Boy because he would not tell him what Cinco de Mayo is is not funny.
- Inaccuracy: The history is also super inaccurate; it's pretty obvious the writers didn't do any research before they made it in the first place. If you want to know what actually happened, here's a video of the history of the Mexican War of Independence.
- To add on to this, events in Spain during the Peninsular War and the Trienio Liberal upended the situation in New Spain. After Spanish military officers overthrew the absolutist monarch Ferdinand VII and returned to the liberal Spanish Constitution of 1812, conservatives in New Spain who had staunchly defended the Spanish monarchy changed course and pursued independence. Royalist army officer Agustín de Iturbide became an advocate of independence and persuaded insurgent leader Vicente Guerrero to join in a coalition, forming the Army of the Three Guarantees. Within six months of that joint venture, royal rule in New Spain collapsed, and independence was achieved.
- Also, the history that Beast Boy told the team was very inaccurate, and again, either the writers didn't do enough research during production, or while they do a decent job on the show at times,
- Robin acts really pathetic when he tastes a lightly salted tortilla chip because it’s “spicy.” It shows the writers have not learned from Spice Game.
- Plot holes:
- How is Robin suddenly able to obtain superpowers when he eats an avocado?
- Similar to the Wow! Wow! WubbzyI episode, Too Much of a Doodle Thing, Robin turns into an avocado when he eats the avocados out of the crate.
- Also, Robin overreacting to hot sauce is unnecessary, and how is he shriveled up when he tastes it?
- Also, to add salt to injury, the word: The Avogodo name is not only a ridiculous nickname for a villain but a stupid name too.
- Not only is it offensive to those who are Mexican, it's also racist to the WHOLE COMMUNITY TOO!
- Cliffhanger Ending: We barely get to see what happens after Robin/The Avogodo was defeated. Here's the clip of the ending.
Cualidades que son un dios (Qualities That Are A God)
- The idea for a Cinco De Mayo episode seems good on paper but is horribly executed.
- The animation is alright.
