"The Challengers" is the first segment of episode 12 of Season 1 and the 34th overall episode of Zig & Sharko.
Plot
A Manta Ray arrives in the ocean to fall in love with Marina, but Sharko becomes jealous and started to face him with anger.
Why It's Not A Real Challenge
- This episode is a 7-minute mean-spirited episode featuring Sharko fighting with the Manta Ray.
- The opening is mean-spirited because the sea creatures are scared to see the Manta Ray. Even the eel is scared and the Manta Ray turns it into a balloon.
- The Manta Ray is an unlikeable villain as he only torments Sharko just because he is jealous to him.
- How can he scream like a girl after seeing Bernie, a hermit crab, handsome men don't scream like a girl?
- The scene where Zig is playing a game is considered a filler.
- There is also a filler scene where Zig attempts to eat Marina using a bamboo pelican.
- There is a plot hole, it is never explained how Zig build that invention just to eat Marina.
- There is another plot hole, how can Sharko and the Manta Ray remove their skins with a ripping sound, which it reveals to be fur rather than scales.
- While the Manta Ray gets his comeuppance, it is unknown where he landed after Sharko threw him and the tree.
- Despite the satisfying ending for Sharko, Marina is mad at him for destroying her house, even though he was jealous of that Manta Ray, this implies that Sharko destroyed the rocks on purpose just to impress her.
- This episode is pointless since Sharko's rival is King Neptune, which was shown multiple times, especially the episode, "King Neptune's Court. So why don't the creators remove Manta Ray and include King Neptune instead?
Redeeming Qualities
- The main characters (Zig, Sharko, Marina, and Bernie) are likable characters.
- Zig does have the right to reprimand at the Manta Ray for cheating on Marina. He also makes statues of Marina using his fists.
- The Manta Ray finally has a comeuppance as he was scared of hermit crabs, which causes Sharko to launch him away.
- Half-Decent Ending: Aside from the aforementioned RQ#3, Sharko does get a comeuppance for fighting over a Manta Ray, thus cleaning and fixing Marina's house.
