"The Float" is the 23rd episode of the first season of The Looney Tunes Show.
Plot
When Daffy's beloved parade float is ruined after a trip to the car wash, he decides to buy a yacht instead. But he needs to get the money first.
Why It Cant Float
- First and foremost, it is a very mean-spirited 22-minute long torture episode for Porky Pig (excluding the Merrie Melodies song segment "You Like/I Like" playing in the middle of the episode).
- While nowhere near as bad as his infamous and notorious villainous role of the mid-to-late-1960s, Daffy is an incredibly selfish and unlikable idiot in this episode for these following reasons:
- Daffy tricks Porky out of all his life savings, claiming he needs a kidney transplant. In reality, he spends the money on a yacht.
- Daffy refusing to sell the yacht and claiming that he doesn't need Porky because, since he owns a yacht, he can easily get more friends.
- Daffy tricking Porky into untying him from the pole, and then throwing him overboard.
- Daffy claims to be the victim after Porky tells him that he wouldn't have given him the money if he knew what it was for.
- We get to see Porky in his house, naked, unshaved, unable to pay the electric bill and eating garbage, which is not only gross but also incredibly sad and depressing to look at.
- Daffy was a complete idiot for not buying either the sails or a radio.
- Speaking of idiocy, "'who sends their parade float to a car wash? It's no wonder why Daffy's parade float got destroyed in the first place! In fact, this entire problem and the entire episode could've been completely avoided if Daffy was smart enough to wash the parade float by hand rather than sending it to the car wash.
- The entire scene of Daffy crying and moping over the destruction of his parade float for months on end for a full cycle of seasons for about one year goes on for way too long and therefore serve as filler in general.
- Plot hole: Why does Daffy need a kidney transplant in this episode? Speaking of kidney transplant, this subject matter is hardly ever brought up in later episodes, therefore making this episode's subplot completely pointless.
- Horrible ending: Daffy still shows Porky no shred of respect after he donated his kidney, and when he asks him for a break from rebuilding Daffy's float, he refuses.
Redeeming Qualities
- Bugs and Porky are likable characters.
- The scene where Porky beats the ever-loving crap out of Daffy is very satisfying and well-deserved.
- The fact that Porky had the decency to donate his kidney to Daffy after it turns out he really did need a transplant (possibly from the beating).
- The episode was decent before Daffy tried to con Porky out of his entire life savings.
- As with the rest of the show, the humor in this episode is still hilarious.
Trivia
- This was the last episode of The Looney Tunes Show to air on Cartoon Network in 2011.
