The Huckleberry Hound Show is an American animated series produced by Hanna-Barbera Productions, and the second series produced by the studio following The Ruff and Reddy Show. The show first aired in first-run syndication on September 29, 1958, and was sponsored by Kellogg's.
Three segments were included in the program: one featuring Huckleberry Hound, another starring Yogi Bear and his sidekick Boo Boo, and a third with Pixie and Dixie and Mr. Jinks, which starred two mice who in each short found a new way to outwit the cat Mr. Jinks.
Why It Rocks
- It was television animation's very FIRST half-hour show.
- It was the very first Emmy-winning cartoon.
- Limited animation was superb for the late-1950s standards.
- The grizzly bear, Yogi Bear, stole the show and became extremely popular, so he had to get his very own show!
- Due to Yogi's amazing popularity, Hanna-Barbera decided to created Yogi's replacement, Hokey Wolf.
- Catchy theme song.
- The Pixie and Dixie segment, was television's answer to the silver screen's Tom and Jerry.
- The show popularized the three-format cartoon, which would be the usual format for Hanna-Barbera's animal shows, along with being copied for shows like The Alvin Show and Garfield & Friends.
Bad Qualities
- While the limited animation is superb, there are a few errors here and there.
- Some episodes may be forgetable here and there
- "Huck's Hack" was considered the weakest episode from the series.
