"The Kale Patch Caper" is the twenty-eighth episode in season ten of The Fairly OddParents.
It was the final Fairly OddParents episode to air. However, "Fancy Schmancy" is the final episode in production order.
Plot
When Timmy's Dad buys the last Kale Patch Kid that Chloe needs to complete her collection, she considers stealing it.
Why This Caper Sucks
- The premise of Chloe going overboard just because Timmy's Dad brought the last kale patch and she later considers stealing it sounds like trivia.
- Like usual, Timmy's Dad and Cosmo are still dumbed down.
- The unfunny "wedding" joke of Timmy's Dad arranging the pineapple and tomato kale patches getting married to each other, while forcing his son to be dressed as the "Flower Girl".
- The unfunny gross-out joke of Cosmo taking care of the "Composed Kids" (in actuality, just a disposed collection of kale patches filled inside a trash can).
- Why couldn't Chloe and Timmy's Dad just talk to each other about letting the former borrow the latter's kale patch? Thus, making the events of this lazily written episode completely pointless to begin with.
- The reason for Chloe being unable to wish to have the last Kale Patch Kid is incredibly contrived: Da Rules state that she cannot wish for a Kale Patch Kid, as it would be considered "copyright infringement". This is also a massive plot hole, as Timmy was able to wish for toys in previous episodes and he was never sued for copyright infringement, proving that Butch Hartman and the writers have stopped caring about Da Rules at this point.
- The characters are even more annoying than usual due to their voice actors often yelling at the majority of their lines throughout the episode. The cheap flash animation and visuals of the art style also still do not fare much better either at that.
- Jorgen himself serves nothing to the episode. Not helping is that this was his final appearance in the show.
- Lazy and moronic ending, with Jorgen's final line "No words, seriously." summing up its laziness in a nutshell.
Redeeming Qualities
- The scene presenting Chloe's dream at least teaches younger audiences that you shouldn't steal and that one small thing can lead to the next.
- Timmy, while he does help Chloe with "stealing" Mr. Turner's Pineapple toy, is surprisingly tolerable here. He even shows care for Chloe here.
- Wanda does have a point when she puts a clip on her nose to not smell Cosmo's toys smell.
- Mr. Crocker, while he is still shoehorned in here, like with most episodes in seasons 9 and 10, is pretty tolerable here. He also doesn't do anything stupid in "The Kale Patch Caper", nor does he act like a man-child, which is actually saying a whole lot.
- Chet Ubecha is still likable like with most episodes in The Fairly OddParents.
- Mrs. Turner is pretty much likable here, also she's way better than her husband, Mr. Turner.
- Whenever Timmy and Chloe help each other by getting the toy, it can be seen as hilarious, especially when Timmy Turner touches the booby traps.
- The Kale Patches designs are admittedly cute and well drawn, even with the bad flash animation, all thanks to the animators.
- Pretty creative title card, especially with the fluid blue sky.
Reception
This episode, alongside its sister episode, currently holds a score of a 3.4 rating on IMDb.com, making it the second lowest rated of Fairly OddParents episode on the aforementioned site.
